Auburn University Top Questions

Is the stereotype of students at your school accurate?

Arthur

Yes

Laura

Nah, but the reality isn't much better. Everyone looks, dresses and acts exactly the same. Individuality is discouraged; diversity is lacking.

Torry

As accurate as you can possibly imagine, it's ridiculous

Erin

No

Blake

For some people, but I think the majority are not

Meredith

Not everyone

Mackenzie

Yes.

Emily

Some definitely are.

Tiffany

They can be! This school is definitely more Southern than most; but if you love Auburn, than you'll love the people and the atmosphere.

Melissa

Sometimes, I mean we live here in the south and then we go to school here in the south. I do not hate it, but I am in the pace of life that these stereotypes like to make fun of.

Anne

yes

claire

It is true that it is a southern school, but that comes form being located in Alabama. As, for being mostly white students, that is partially true. The majority are definitely white, but this also comes from being located in Alabama.

Abbey

Some of the time, but stereotypes are never completely accurate.

Kayla

No, I honestly can say that I'm not at all what the stereotype is for sorority girl. It actually used to really bother me how people would associate your personality with an organization you are involved with, but hey atleast I showed them otherwise.

Paige

I don't really know, I only hang out with a small portion of Auburn University students so it would be unfair of me to say.

Suzanne

NO

Aubrey

No, definitly not for all students..for the majority not true.

Torry

I don't think the Greek Life stereotype is true. As a part of the Greek system, I feel I can say it is not a joke. The Greek System focuses more on philanthropy than any school I know.

Kelly

no

Rhianna

For the most part, no

Lindsay

nope

Sarah

I have found that this is mostly true. I think people are more active and involved that i expected, which is good. But i was a little bit let down when i realized just how conservative most students are. There are some very close-minded students here, but you learn to look past them and find the ones that you can have a two-sided conversation with. Either way, both types of students really add to your college experience. I've learned who i am and who i am not by the different interactions i have had with people here.

Anne

Blake

some people are, but not all

Katie

yes, some are accurate

Kara

no not usually

Katie

somewhat because it a southern school but you can easily not get involved in these stereotypes if you dont want to

Andy

while there is the occasional redneck and bitchy stuck up sorority girl, i have found lots of cool people here and dont think the stereotypes are a fair representation

Melanie

nooooooo

Riley

Absolutely not.

Sarah

I dont't think so

Leslie

I do not think these are acurate. However, I am sure there is an individual who fits each description.

Amy

Not all of them. Everyone dresses prettymuch the same and this was especially obvious to me being an out of state student. The students here seem to be overall pretty well off financially and I have not met a single "hick."

kathryn

not always

Ashley

For sometimes

Emily

not at all

Courtney

We are Southern; however, we are growing and it is becoming harder and harder to get in, so having smart and involved students is very important! The girls at Auburn are also very classy and beautiful! Not to mention our athletic department is one of the best!

Sarah

I think that these stereotypes have truth to them, but are not entirely accurate. Auburn is made up of mostly white students, but they are all of different backgrounds, hometowns, beliefs. In addition, we have minority students here from the US as well as from all over the world. Auburn does have a great small town feel; there are a lot of kind people here, and it is a very safe place for students. Last but not least, the stereotype about Auburn athletics is true - we have great athletics in everything from swimming to track and field to football and more! Great athletes and loyal fans!

Stephanie

no

Blair

Not at all but i have heard a lot of people say this. I also think that auburn needs to be careful about the people that we allow to speak on our behalf. This is important because they are the voices that represent our university as a whole.

Amy

No, they are all just exaggerated things that might be found in Auburn, but do not correctly apply to Auburn as a whole.

Kristina

I think all of these stereotypes could go either way. It depends on the person. But i really do think if you're a true auburn studend you do love it!

Alex

Not at all. The culture is very diverse.

Sara

I mean we live in Alabama... there are going to be country people, but no we are not a bunch of rednecks.

Aubrie

For some, yes, and for others, no. Almost everyone I have met, however, is from the south.

Brittany

yes

Barbara

There are some "country Folk" at the school, but no more so than any other "type"

Allie

yes, i believe so.
