Auburn University Top Questions

What are the most popular student activities/groups?

Courtney

Greek life is common. Football is extremely popular. There are many active academic clubs.

Leslie

Well of course all sporting events is one of the top activities to do at Auburn, but you also have smaller activities. Each college in Auburn University has clubs so that you can gain knowledge about your future career and also a chance to spend time with students who share the same interests as you.

Kate

FOOTBALL. If you come here, you have to like football. It is more of a religion than a sport down here. The students are are very active in government, student affairs, athletics, greek life ect. I would say that it is one of the most involved campuses I have ever seen. The dating scene is level with the hookup scene, you will find both depending on where you look. Closest friends are from your residence hall and people you meet through class. Good thing about Auburn is there is always time to meet brand new people. People party a good amount, mostly frat parties. To be honest, there is not much to do around here even if you party, so you have to keep yourself entertained.

Sorority & fraternity's are the larges groups/organizations. There are of course degree specific groups and clubs. Sustainability & recycling are a big part of our university. The student activities on & off campus are a wide variety and often. There is typically free movies every week for most of the semester and occasional concerts from famous individuals, bands and groups of all types and styles.

saketh

i would say party groups, the fraternities and sororities!

Arthur

Typical football u, if you don't belong to a frat, you are viewed as anti-social. Don't look for diversity of thought here. You are in Alabama so interracial dating is still frowned upon and you will probably get harassed. The biggest student event is some redneck-fest called the Alpha Psi Rodeo or Auburn Rodeo. Don't go to it if you are brown skinned, you will get jacked by drunk rednecks. The Star and Bar flags are out and flying everywhere in Auburn during the Rodeo and I have been called every name in the book when I made a mistake of going to it one night just to check it out.

Laura

It's imperative that you learn to binge drink and almost necessary to go Greek if you want to have things to do every weekend.

Blake

Football

Meredith

The most popular organization is college republicans. I think that it is not that important to be in a fraternity as most of the campus is not, but it is still a great thing. I met my closest friends in my sorority.

Mackenzie

I am involved in the sorority Pi Beta Phi, and I love it. It has allowed me to meet so many different people I would have never met if I hadn't done it.

Emily

Night life at auburn is fun, I also enjoy habitat for humanity and best buddies

Tiffany

Fraternities and sororities are a big part of Auburn's social life, although you're fine if you're not in one. They require a lot of time, but social priveliges are granted and then the work becomes gratifying.

Allison

I think that a lot of people like being involved with Greek life, but there are tons of people who aren't but are involved with different things. Also, sporting events are a huge deal. I think everyone enjoys some kind of sporting event.

Melissa

Greek system all the way. I am greek, but its not for everyone and I get that. I love it though. I believe it has helped me network and also has opened me up and allowed me branch out of the shell and meet so many amazing people. I also lived on campus for 2 years which was an expierence all in its self. Not bad, but not great. It just needs updating and I believe Auburn is working on that. Being in a sorority I firmly believe that we need houses on campus like the fraternities. I believe all around it would make things so much easier on campus for everyone. The dating scene is not so much, I mean I think people date still but the night life is so fun that its like group outings. Traditions = football. I love football season and so does everyone who goes to school here. Its awesome.

Anne

Greek life is definitely very popular at Auburn. Football is a religion at Auburn and gamedays are always extremely fun. Usually if I am not studying for a test then I am out partying with friends. There are plenty of people that are in relationships but there are also plenty of people that aren't.

Suzanne

my main activity would be sorority. i loved living in the sorority dorm for a year. it brought my pledge class so close and i made so many friends through it. and i think that the greek community plays a very important role here at auburn.

claire

FOOTBALL IS HUGE!!!! Which is great, but I think it overshadows some of the other sports. It would be great if the student body would become more involved with other sports as well.

Abbey

Last year when I lived in the dorm we locked our doors a lot, but this year since I live on the Pi Phi hall and I know everyone I don't lock my door very often. I met my closest friends through my sorority and my living situation last year.

Kayla

My social life consists of hanging out with either classmates, my sorority sisters, or studying. I sometimes on occasion get to go out and dance at one of the bars or catch a movie with friends, but most of the time I'm in study groups and trying to make sure my grades are good so I can get into graduate school in the fall. Some people however, are more fortunate to be able to go out all the time and still manage to make good grades as well as have enough money to make ends meet while still having a good time every night. I guess you could say I have to really analyze my priorities. I enjoy going out every once and a while, but I know I'm here to learn and get an education plus meet people. I can say I have so far been very successful. I have met some of the most amazing people while attending Auburn University, and I'm positive all of them will remain apart of my life.

Paige

I feel that SGA and the football team are probably one of the most popular organizations/clubs on campus. I saw SGA because so many people tryout to be in it and I say football because, I mean come on, do I even have to explain? Auburn housing life is fun, but people are more cautious now about locking their doors due to the Lauren Burke incident. If I am awake on a Tuesday at 2 am I am either studying or leaving a social. I feel that the greek life is important but that's because I'm in it. I feel that people do party here a lot but that's probably every college. If you aren't drinking on a Saturday night, you can watch a movie with friends or even be studying for a test coming up. If I am off campus, I am most likely at a gym working out.

Suzanne

People do leave there dorm doors open and im one of them. Its really not safe but people really dont think about someone wanting to go in their rooms. People party ALOT. i love going out and it makes auburn so much better. I love going out and seeing everyone there.

Aubrey

I think Greek life is very popular on campus. I do not leave my door open to my dorm, because I do not know very many people on my hall. I met my closest friends through a friend from home and through my sorority..and some in class..and some from going to lacrosse games and parties with hostesses. Different people party different amounts. I want to a fraternity party last weekend. You can go to a movie, or UPC events on weekends and not drink..or bowl or putt putt?? Whatever you want!

Torry

I think Greek Life is popular on campus and UPC is a popular club. I am involved in TIgersplashers (Swim Team Hostess) and I love this organization. I met my closet friends from my sorority and the girls that leave in my dorm. Last weekend I went to the Relay for Life, the Rodeo and bowling.

Kelly

I have a great social life at Auburn, and truly enjoy my sorority.

Rhianna

The most popular groups on campus are Sororities/Fraternities and groups involved with SGA, etc. I'm involved in a Sorority and love it! I've met so many people and life-long friends through it! Some students leave their door open, if they know most of the people on their hall. Athletic events are extremely popular. There is plenty of stuff to do if you go on a date. I met my closests friends through my sorority. Some people party every night, some never do.. there's a good mix. Fraternities/sororities are pretty important to me, but not the most important to many others. Last weekend I went to the Rodeo. It's one of my most memorable times here at Auburn!

Lindsay

The football team is obviously very highly thought of. I believe the Greek system is very prominent on campus. I met my closest friends through it. Freshmen and sophmore year are probably the biggest party years. We would go out on an average of 5 nights a week.

Sarah

greeks and nongreeks get along. the social scene is not driven by greeks. Many times sororities and fraternities will have socials at bars but they are all inclusive meaning that you will not be turned away or looked down on if you aren't greek. I love that! i am greek but i have many non-greek friends. Some people party everynight others party only on weekends and some don't party at all. You can find whatever social group you want. Football!!! a huge part of Auburn life. I wasn't an auburn football fan before i came and now i could never look back. It is a huge part of the culture here during the fall semester. Most people date versus hook up.

Caroline

Pi beta phi

Carly

The most popular things that students are involved in would be sororities or fraternities. I met my closes friends through my sorority mostly. Depending on the person, people can party all the time. Last weekend I went to a fraternity party and the rodeo.

Katie

I like Auburn because it doesnt matter if you dont go out everynight, but if you wanted to their always would be something to do, and you would always have someone to go with.

Katie

Atheltic events are very important here, especially football. Everyone goes. Many students are either involved in greek life. If you are awake at 2 am on a tuesday you are either at the library studying or hanging out with your friends.

Anne

Greek organizations are very popular, but many people have negative ideas about them. Guest speakers, theater, and athletic events other than football, however, have VERY LITTLE participation. I've been to a few but there's really nothing that enticing to go to any of them. Intramurals are fun and many people seem to participate in them. Party's happen OFTEN, sometimes I find myself wishing I had more friends that didn't go out as much, because I don't like to go out drinking all the time. There's plenty of other fun things to do without drinking but I feel most people I know don't feel the same way. As for the dating scene?...what dating scene? I've been here for 3 years and haven't been asked out on one date. And my best friends, I met them through my sorority and through mutual friends. Most of my best friends are not in sororities at all or in sororites other than mine.

Blake

Toomer's Corner!!!

Katie

i love the fact that there is always something going on in auburn. there are tons of organizations to join on campus so it is really easy to stay involved. the sports are awesome too and there is always a good game to go watch during the week and weekends. i met my closest friends through my sorority. i am so happy i joined a sorority because it has been a great way to meet people. many people would say fraternities and sororities are really important but i have met plenty of people not in one that i hang out with all the time. i think it is definitely beneficial in meeting people, but if a person is outgoing and willing to meet people on their own, it does not matter. and yes, people here do like party, but so do most college students. like i said earlier i think there is a good balance between academics and being able to maintain a social life. the bars are always fun and the fraternities usually have something going on too. its a great place to be.

Kara

people party every night but the parties here are much different than other places. they aren't out of control and they are just fun ways to hang out with everyone you love!

Katie

Greek and social life is huge on campus. Wednesday nights are a very popular weeknight to go out. Going to the bars is a huge part of social activities with socials and drink specials happening almost any night.

Andy

nobody can leave their doors open anymore bc security is such a worry now... athletic events (mostly fb) are very important, as Auburn has a lot of pride.. dating scene is pretty damn small.. whoever you are dating is probably friends with/used to date/has slept with someone you know... which i dont like... greek life was impt to me bc i transferred in as a soph and it helped me meet a TON of people.. last wknd i went to the rodeo (one of my favorite traditions)... if im awake at 2am on a tuesday im either studying or at the bar

Melanie

Lots to do for everyone!

Riley

I live in a dorm and no one locks their doors. It's safe. There's always something fun going on, and the night life is awesome.

Sarah

I love living in the dorms. It was a great way to get to know not only other students but also the campus very well. The dorms were very nice and i will be living in them next year also.

Leslie

Auburn activities and social life is what makes the Auburn experience. The most popular groups and organizations on campus are the Greek Organizations, SGA, UPC and Encounter. The organizations/groups give a student the opportunity to meet many new people and become involved within Auburn's campus. Being in a fraternity or sorority is important at Auburn. This is where you will meet your best friends that will be your long term friends. Being in a sorority has opened so many doors and to understand that one would have to be apart of one.

Amy

I always leave my dorm door open so people can drop by and say hi. I joined a sorority at the beginning of the year and it has been great. There is aways an event to go to and having a boyfriend in a fraternity is fun too. I dont know what people do if they dont go greek. I have met so many people in the greek system. Football season is huge. Everyone tailgates all day before going to the game. The girls all dress up in cute little sundresses and they guys are typically in button downs or polos and slacks. The fraternityl pledges have to wear a suit and tie which really sucked for them when it was hot outside.

Ashley

I met my closet friend through Pi Phi... Wednesday nights are really big going out night

Emily

tons of ting you can get involved in

Courtney

The most popular groups here are the greek life, SGA, and the athletic department. I have been involved in SGA and I am involved in sorority. Students in the dorm do leave their doors open. I have been here for 2 years and never really lock my door. People are always up and either at the library at night or partying somewhere. There is always something to do!

Sarah

One of the great things about Auburn is its laid back atmosphere: If you are Greek (in a sorority or fraternity), great. You love Auburn and your Greek life. If you are not Greek, great. You love Auburn and your non-Greek life. If you want to party like crazy, you can find plenty of people to party with all of the time. If you want to study like crazy, you can find plenty of people to study with all of the time. I think that most students, myself included, have a good balance of fun and academics. My closest friends are people I lived with in the Quad dorms my freshman year as well as the people I have had honors classes with.

Stephanie

Football is the biggest thing in Auburn. EVERYONE goes to gamedays and it is one of the funnest things at Auburn. People know when to party and when to study so it is a good mixture. I never feel pressured to go out when I have a test the next day.

Blair

I was involved in Tiger Tuesdays when i was a freshman. all i heard was how fun and rewarding the program was so i applied to be a part of this group. I hated it. I was in REACH and i felt like it was poorly organized and i didnt feel like i did anything to "REACH" out to people who needed it. I didnt leave one meeting feelng like i influenced or helped someone. i didnt feel like i had a voice at all and i was confused about why everyone loved this program or what the program was even about. When people asked me what the group was about, i didnt know what to say.

Amy

I am involved in a social sorority. This is the first thing that I became involved with at Auburn. It has been a great way to meet people and get involved. I am also a Project Uplift volunteer. I really enjoy this group because it is volunteer work, and it is a lot of fun!
