Bard College Top Questions

What kind of person should not attend this school?

Tiago

I would not advise a highly conservative person to apply due to the highly liberal political views. I would also not recommend this college to a highly ambitious career-focused person. Bard College is, as the slogan says, a place to think, a place to develop thought and abstract reality, not a place for strong vocational goals. It will help you on your way to anything, but is in no way a clear path to some profession: that's what state schools are for.

Katharine

A person who wants to remain anonymous. A person who is not ready to take responsibility for their own education.

Liz

Conservative Republicans

Laura

Someone hoping to skate through school without having to work. People who aren't committed to their work generally do not do well and don't last much past the first few semesters. It is possible on some level to get by without having to give your all, but you have to be extremely smart to pull it off. There are numerous instances in which you are asked to make a case for why you want to study something and what you want to write as your senior thesis (which is required) so its difficult to get by without working.

Jacqueline

Someone who want a large campus, with lecture classes, and a greek life.

Leah

A person who is unmotivated or uninterested in their academics would not be happy at Bard. It would also be a risk for a staunch conservative to attend. People must be willing to participate in classes and engage in the community, also those expecting a party school where sports and chaos reign are in for a surprise.

Natalia

Someone who does not want to be challenged or someone who needs to be in a city atmosphere.

Alexandra

If you are looking to become part of Greek life and go bar hopping nightly - Bard is not the right place for you. Also, if you enjoy large, lecture classes - stay away from Bard. Classes tend to be anywhere from 10-25 students with emphasis on participation. If you are someone looking to go to a larger school in the city, you probably also should not attend Bard.
