I believe Bates is best known for it's high academic reputation, but there is much more to this school. Everyone I've met at this school has said they chose this school because of the feeling they had when they first stepped on campus. The people here all want to be here, which is what makes this school so special.
It is best known for the academics and teacher-student relationships.
It is best known for being rigidly academically focused/
the friendly people, motivated people
We are best known for our sense of inclusiveness and personality. We are not a jock school, hippy school, preppy school, or really any one category. We have all sorts of different people who get along really well and have each others backs.
Having an awful football team
I think the school is best known for being down-to-earth - we're not a big fancy city college or a serious sweater-vest-wearing academic institution, we're just a small college in Maine with a variety of students passionate about a variety of things. We all work very hard and still take time to do things we love, from hiking to skiing to acting to playing an instrument - students are always organizing tons of clubs and events. I've never seen such a wide variety of people at such a small school.
I would say bates is best known for its biology and economic/political fields of study and the theatre and arts departments.
For our liberal art studies. Social sciences such as Economics and Psychology.
Being friendly. And expensive.
Cold Weather. Boring Parties. Ugly girls.
