What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Megan

College has been a valuable tool for me in not only learning about my chosen degree, but also myself and other people in general. I have changed majors a couple of times now, and though I seem not to be able to decide what I eventually would like to do, I am glad to have learned the things I learned that I would not have if I had stayed on one course. In that time, I met a diverse group of people with similar, but also different, interests to me and I consider myself a much better person for having met and worked with these people whom I most likely learned something from as well as with the professor.

I am learning the value of family and friends. Going away to college has taught me never to take anything for granted. While living at home I didn't fully understand how precious the time was that I spent with my family at dinnertime or the long hours studying with my high school friends. I cherish those memories more now that I am away, than I ever would have if I had stayed at home. Now that I am in college, I am so thankful to have the opportunity to learn about myself and about who I want to become. If I had never attended Baylor University, I would have never known my full potential. I am given opportunities to make friends with people from all over the world. My eyes are being opened to new traditions. I am also able to participate in research projects relevant to my goals. Every opportunity Baylor University has for spiritual and academic growth opens my eyes to new ideas about what I want to do in the future. I am learning that nothing is impossible; I can be and do whatever I want and maybe change the world.

So far, what I have gotten out of my college experience, is experience itself. I have learned to take certain things more seriously and other things less. I've learned to be serious when needed, and relaxed when not. I've learned how to balance my life and how to create a work load that is not overwhelming to myself. To be honest, the first semester of college was kind of too exciting, and I ended up losing track of my goal, education. But through despair and through all the problems I faced, i came to the realization of what is easily fixed. I have become a matured soul. A person that is not only a civilian, I feel as though I truly am a citizen. The difference is that a civilian will only live in a community to merely exist. A citizen is a person who lives in the community, and helps it grow in itself by all tools possible.

Throughout my first semester of college I gained quite a few new qualities that I didn’t have before I got to Baylor. First, I have found a new interest to learn. Baylor has presented me with classes that I have enjoyed being a part of and enjoyed learning that subject. All of my professors have presented the material in a way that interested me. I have also met a lot of people that over only a short period of time, I have come to love. I have gained many valuable experiences in a very short time at Baylor because of the ability of the professors to instill in me a new interest to learn and also a new love for people. The people at Baylor are great and I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else.

College has helped me not only develop my work ethic and important life skills, such as the ability to balance my academic and social life, but has taught me how important it is to pursue my interests. I've learned that I shouldn't study something just because I will make more money in my later career, because that will just end with me being miserable. It's important to choose a field of study that caters to your interets and goals in life, because that will lead you to a job that will make you more happy and satisfied as a person. True success comes from loving what you study, learn , and do everyday.

Since starting at Baylor University, I have learned a great deal about myself and keeping true to my personal nature. Through attending rigorous science classes, my academic focus has become clearer and goal oriented. Beyond school, the surrounding town of Waco has opened up my eyes to the issue of poverty in the world. This juxtaposition of social classes, separated only by Interstate highway 35, shows me a need for selfless service. I have also joined a fraternity here at Baylor that was founded as the first Christian fraternity in the nation. With these influences, academia, social and spiritual, I plan on pursuing a life based on service to those in need at the best of my abilities as a doctor. I choose not to achieve a career but rather a lifestyle of giving help to financially downtrodden families both in the United States and overseas. Baylor gives many students a head start for job placement; Baylor gave me a head start life.

Nadia

I have learned the importance of community and friends. A person needs these things and people in order to get through the enduring and stressful time of college. Community and friends allow you to vent and also appreciate the education you are receiving. The people I have met here will forever have a lasting impact on my life because of the clinical and classroom experiences we have shared together. Believe me, I will always remember the first bed bath or medication injection I gave because of the classmates and instructors that were around to encourage me and also to calm my nerves. Taking care of another person's life is an extremely stressful experience but Baylor University's Louise Herrington School of Nursing has supplied me with the knowledge and confidence to take care of all of my patients. I am very proud to be a Baylor Bear and sincerely thank the university, professors, and students for making the time I have at Baylor a memorable one.

Abby

I have learned so much about myself, my beliefs, and my strengths. I have attained freedom and the knowledge of how to use my newfound freedom wisely. I have met so many friends that will last a life time and I have had an abundant amount of memorable times. I feel like my life is finally beginning and I know exactly where I am headed. I have not once regretted my decision to attend Baylor and, even though I have made mistakes, I have learned from them. Baylor has such a great sense of community and there is always fun things going on around campus to keep me busy. Baylor is a great university and has definately changed my life for the better! SIC EM'!!

Gabriela

Obviously, I have gained knowledge in the field of psychology that will help me in my future career. In addition, I have also learned discipline to get my work done in a timely manner and diligence in studying for my classes, no matter how difficult. Here at Baylor I have been able to grow spiritually and my relationship with Christ has been strengthened greatly. Lastly, I have made friendships that I hope will last a lifetime and have helped me to lean on others for support rather than thinking I can do it all on my own (in which case, I usually became overwhelmed). It has been valuable to attend college because it has increased my knowledge in the field I am planning on entering. Also, it has opened up job opportunities since it is almost impossible to get a decent job in this economy without a college degree. Lastly, the high standard I am held to by my professors here has prepared me for the workforce.

The college experience has given me the oppertunity to grow as a person and deciede what I want to do with my life and how to get there. I have become more of an adult in the time I have been in college; learing to do things for myself, managing money and being responsible. Atteneding college is valuable because I get to further my education and make something out of myself.

Michael

Coming out of high school I had an idea of what I wanted to do this my life but it was very general. Now as I been in college I am starting to focus in on what it is that I want to do and came to realize that I join doing medical research. Research will require many years in college where i will be able to refine my knowlegde and skills in becoming an effective researcher.

Jennifer

My college experience so far has comprised of excitement, nervousness, hope and determination to succeed. I remember my first day of classes with questions buzzing through my head. Questions that included; will I make it there on time? What will my professor be like and will there be anyone I know in this class? Is Air Force ROTC really going to make me the leader I need to be? With this nervousness came the hope and determination to succeed, because Baylor portrays an atmosphere of acheivement, which encouraged me to do my best. A few months pass and I quickly settled into routine; who my friends are, which cafeteria had the best meals. The air of achievement still surrounds me and though I struggle with courses such as chemistry or spanish I still keep up the hard work knowing I am a Baylor Bear. My friends prove supportive and helpful and my roommate and I click, a pleasant suprise that I appreciate more than I can say. Finals drag on and as I rewind during winter break and hear my friends at home speak of their college experience I appreciate the atompshere of support and achievement baylor offers me.

In our younger years, we find the question of career choice early. Whether we are asked by school teachers or parents, the answers vary from astronaut to police officer. It is only when we reach a mature age our answers become realistic. My first answers were broadcast journalist and teacher because I wanted to touch the lives of others.Community involvement has always been a part of my life. My high school years in Girl Scouts, Model UN, and Youth & Government proved instrumental towards finding my passion. Upon college, I chose involvement in the service motivated sorority, Tri-Sigma. Tri-Sigma proves to be different from other sororities because the main focus remains on service. Service is close to my heart because of my experiences in Girl Scouts where we organized service projects such as Christmas Caroling in art of my life. My high school years in Girl Scouts, Model UN, and Youth & Government proved instrumental towards finding my passion.

Lainey

So far into my college experience, I have learned there is a world outside of the bubble I grew up in. This journey allowed for me to see other ways of life and to even leave the country for a semester. Through my studies, I gained new friends, new interests, and a better understanding of what I want to do with my future. I would not have been to find myself and learn so much about thw world if I had not attended a university. It has been the best years of my life and the most rewarding oppurtunity I have accepted. I have no regrets.

Sydney

It is my belief that a life of education is the only life worth truly living. Everyday I learn something new and with this each day of my life is progressive. Baylor students and faculty are truly enthusiastic about our university and it shows in the classroom. I have learned that I can do thing I never thought possible and exceed in subject that were foreign when I first began. As a freshman one may feel like one tiny speck out of thousands,. Yet, I quickly realized that I am an intricate part of the community and that my success is also the succes of the school. I am now more confident that I can achieve my goals and onl need the opportunity to do so.

Christina

A resonating and lengthy "A" is shouted out by a Baylor student from across the room. His hand is up in the air in the shape of a bear claw and he's looking around for fellow supporters. Within seconds the room erupts in "Aaaaaaaa! SIC 'EM BEARS!", and once it's done the students proceed as normal. I have never experienced this uniqueness that only Baylor has. The sense of unity and fellowship has made me feel like I never left my home in Tennessee. I fell in love instantly. In my wildest dreams, I could not have fathomed leaving home and driving twelve hours to a private university: a place where I would know no one, and they would not know me. Baylor has given me hope for a future. Both the faculty and students have been helpful and kind. We push each other for excellence and success, and you will always see those same faces that cheered you on in the classroom at weekend Baylor sports games. I have been able to develop myself academically and spirtually moreso than I could have if I had stayed at home. Baylor University is where I found God.

My college experience has only been one semester as of now but I have come to embrace the experience. Classes are much different than they were in high school. You are on your own in college. The teachers want the best for us but it is up to us to make the best of our studies. No more notes of concern to our parents . We are now fully responsible for our own future. As Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz said, we are no longer in Kansas.

Rebecca

College has been valuable to me because I have seen first hand the difference an education makes. In my family both of my parents have degrees and professional jobs. But my sister decided not to go to college after high school. Instead her focus was on her relationship with her boy friend, who is now her husband. She has two children and her work experience has been limited to low paying service jobs. I have seen how hard it is on her to make ends meet and do not want to follow that path. I often wonder why she chose not to go to college when school seemed to be so easy for her. But her priorities were different from mine. I want to have an education and a professional job like my parents. I have learned valuable life skills this year, and will learn more in the years to come because of my college experiences. These experiences will shape me into an adult and make me who I will be the rest of my life.

Grace

Despite having being in college for merely one semester, I have learned a lot about myself and my values. With college came a freedom and independence I have not experienced before and with such independence. At first, I did not take my classes seriously and took advantage of all my "free time". I hardly studied and frequently went out, making new friends and exploring the new world. Hence, I earned poor grades on my first round of exams. Realizing that I needed to put more time into my studies, I put in more effort but it was still not my number one priority as I was unwilling to give up my social activities. Having still making poor grades on my second exams, I then knew I needed to straighten my priorities and worked harder to earn high grades on the last of my exams. Not only have I learned many things in my classes, I have learned the value of time, money, family, and most importantly, education.

Erin

Even after just one semester of being on my own at college, I feel like I have learned so much and grown so much as a person. I have had to face many obstacles and challenges on my own, ranging from learning to do my own laundry to roommate issues to coping with my Grandfather's death without my family to lean on. I have also learned so much in my studies, and have greatly enjoyed my classes, which came as quite a surprise to me. I have met so many amazing people that I will keep in my heart for the rest of my life. I am so grateful that I got the chance to attend such a prestigious university to start my life journey. I am confident that everything I am learning and have learned will help me greatly in my future. I hope that my continuing years at Baylor will prove to be just as succesful and enjoyable as this year.

Elizabeth

My college experience has been great up to this point of my life as well as very valuable. I have met all type of people and I have shared my knowledge with theirs. I also have faced many challenges that almost make me fall, but with my eager for learning and the help of my college mates and professors I have been able to overcome all of them. I know that by focusing nothing will be able to defeat me. It has been also very valuable for me to attend college, because by educating myself, I will be able to provide a better future to my family, as well as I will be a better example for younger generations. Therefore, I will show other people that education is the best thing a person can have, because nobody will be able to steal it from you never.

Megan

From my college experience I have learned to be more responsible, independent, and have learned the value of hard work. Many of my friends stress out about their GPA and getting into med school, but I have learned that you cannot change the past, so don't stress about it! You can only try your best and hope that is enough, complaining won't change anything. I have learned so much and made so many great friends, it is easy to say that my educational experience is valuble to me!

Patrick

One of the biggest things I've learned from my college experience is how much I don't know. College is truly a mind-opening experience. You are challenged to investigate why you believe what you believe, and you find that rather than destroying your belief, it can make it stronger and deeper than it was before. For the first time since kindergarten, you regullarly take naps. You find yourself in social situations that can either cause you to grow as a person or shrink back with immaturity. Your eyes are opened to the prejudices of others and most importantly, yourself. For a brief moment in time, you openly talk to strangers. Family and friends actually become a priority when you do go "home", because you now begin to appreciate the sanctity of a human life. You hear about the scope of some of the world's greatest problems, hunger, poverty, disease, war, oppression, and then you see it in your own backyard. But at the same time, you feel as if you have the power to do something about it. In short, college is where you learn to be, or not to be.

Katie

There is nothing better than the feeling of belonging to something and that's how I feel with Baylor. Relationships with people are the biggest deal to me, and the relationships that I have been able to accumulate with not only other students but with professors are irreplaceable.

Joshua

College has been the most incredible time of my life. I have grown closer to my family, met life long friends, and cultivated an understanding of the world that is invaluable. I originally came to college to be a rich man. I was looking for success, expecting to get a degree and a great job. Everything I have since learned has shown me that there is more to life than money. From the people I have met and the things I have experienced, it is clear to me that no matter how much money I make I will always be just a very small part of the world. So as an architect, I want to be a part of building a world that I would be proud to pass onto future generations. I want to help create homes where children can grow up as a part of a loving family. I want to design hospitals that foster a sincere sense of care for patients. I want to build office buildings where workers do not have to spend the next twenty years stuck in fluorescent-lit cubicles. I know that without college, I would never have gained this knowledge and insight.

Lauren

From my college experience, I have gained a greater understanding of the world, the people in it and the God who created the world. Through my Neuroscience, Psychology, Anthropology and Linguistics classes, I have learned how people think, feel and experience the world in different ways and how all of these conceptualizations of the universe have their roots in the same desire to love and to live. In addition to the knowledge gained, I have made lifelong friends whom I treasure and will remain connected with after graduation. Through classes, friends, and experiences I have grown as a person and matured.

Brandon

At a time, this question ran through my head on a regular basis. On the verge of dropping out of college, I could not conjure up a reason to stay enrolled. Was it societal pressure that made college feel necessary? Was it for the future income? Superficial reasons that many abide by could not act as a proper justification to satisfy my once lackluster motivation. Upon my personal discovery and fondness of the science of Geography, I finally became aware of a motivation to stay, and better yet, strive for and succeed in getting straight A's. the number one reason I go to college is personal enrichment. I could care less about the future jobs to come, or how the big-wig campus snoots percieve me. I attend college to obtain knowledge and utilize it in my life. My education allows me to explore the world. College offers me an opportunity that is only available to a small percentage of the human race. I accept the challenge to better myself and therefore better the world through means of education.

Jareon

Even though the time spent in college is short, the effects of attending are felt for the rest of a person's life. My college experience has enlightened me in so many ways; I feel like a candle being lit by a flame, burning brightly for the first time. College has shown me who I really am, my weaknesses, my strengths; it's like an omniscient mirror reflecting who I really am on the inside. I've learned a lot of practical information and information about life in general by attending my first year of college (such as the need for adept time management and problem solving skills). I also had a lot of fun by meeting new people and by trying new activities. It has been a blessing to attend Baylor University because of the tough challenges it provided; these challenges included taking rigorous classes, joining student organizations, and becoming a leader. There were a few times that I felt overwhelmed by the tasks facing me. Yet the challenges have all been worth it because I feel more empowered and prepared for life, which is the main reason why it has been valuable to attend Baylor.

Katy

I try not to take my college experience for granted. In order for me to stay up to date and educated with current events, I read the University Chronicle and Outlook Magazine and listen to KVSC radio to keep myself current and educated. I like to take optional courses that cause curiosity in me and are outside of my Finance major. I am going to join the Catholic Student Community in January. A major goal of mine is to make lasting friends and grow vastly while attending St. Cloud State University. I always look forward to watching SCSU Men’s Hockey and enrolling in group fitness classes, such as Yoga and Water Aerobics. To relieve homework stress, I like to listen, sing, and dance to the Twin Cities Hit Music Station often. I enjoy attending college level theatre and may someday be part of the SCSU Women’s Choir. College has been so valuable for me to attend because nowhere else in my life will I be around so many diverse people with such varied and comparable interests at the same time.

I’ve challenged myself to be more than a stereotype, and to surpass expectations. In this process I’ve learned that life is not as simple as I thought. Before going to Baylor I assumed that you chose a path to follow in life and stuck to it no matter what, but now after a few years of experience I know that life is what you make of it. Nothing comes easy, you have to work for what you want and in this process you are challenged to be better than you could have ever imagined. One of the friends I met at Baylor gave me the best advice, “life is a series of brick walls, you have to embrace them and find ways to surpass them in order to achieve your goals. Those who give up stay behind, but those who strive and work hard find ways around the wall, even if that means digging under it with a spoon.” Although it made me laugh at first it’s true, choosing to go to college is one of the best decisions I have ever made because it has made me realize that life is tough, but not impossible.

Jesse

My college experience thus far at Baylor University has been a springboard for what my heart desires, and that is a passionate relationship with Christ that leads to passionate relationships with people, which leads to a passion for helping those in need. It has begun to prepare me for the missions work that I believe God has called me to, and has set me up for success in this area. I am so thankful for the people that God has brought into my life by bringing me to Baylor University, with my parents living in Guam, Baylor has been my "home away from home" and the people here have loved me as Christ loves them, and it is such a beautiful thing.

Bekah

I have grown up a lot since I have started college. Yes the expected change from high school to college changes like learning to manage my time, and deciding to go to class instead of being told to, but there is more than that. College has opened me up to so many choices, and choices make up the path of my life. I have learned to judge situations on my own, and yes, I have made mistakes here and there, but I am still learning. I believe I am making mostly right choices that will lead me to where God wants me to be in life. I am doing my best to do so. College is constantly opening up all these new choices( for example, going to a party or studying for my huge biology exam; buying ANOTHER cup of coffee, or saving up money so I have enough for groceries; etcetera) and I love having the power to make these choices. This ability forces me to be accountable, because, if I am not, then I will most definitely pay the price. College is molding me into the accountable adult I hope to be.

Christine

There is much that goes through the mind of an idealistic youth after receiving a college acceptance letter. She begins to map her future and to draw the avenues that will lead to the accomplishment of her goals. I remember the sentiment well and I look back on it with a smile of understanding. My college experience has taught me that while that youthful idealistic approach to life is necessary, it is imperative to accept the hard work and to continuously apply the skills that college allows students to add to their toolbelts. As a college student, I am given the opportunity to take that map of my future that I drew when I received my acceptance letter and bring it to life. I am able to build upon those avenues and pave the way to the next map that I will draw when I receive my acceptance letter to graduate school. The education that I receive within the fields of academia is certainly valuable, but the education that I receive within the halls of prudent life lessons holds a far more substantial value to me as a student, as a young person, and as a citizen of this world.

Carole

Coming to Baylor University really opened my eyes in the way people view Christianity as. Even though I grew up as a pastor's child, I was never exposed to the true experience that a follower of Christ should have. I was always a "church go-er" not a true Christian. But after coming to Baylor, I had truly experienced what it means to live with Jesus and what it means to walk with Jesus and that is one experience that I will never throw away. Attending Baylor is a very valuable thing to me because just even being on that campus, it makes me feel like I am already closer to God. The environment from the students and the professors, just makes me feel like God is working through everyone that attends the University. Attending Baylor has truly opened my eyes in ways that I can't comprehend and if I were able to keep it with me forever, it is one experience I will always cherish with me wherever I go.

Jay

I have gotten the skills and tools necessary to be successful in life. At this point, I think the knowledge is not as useful in life, although the skills I have learned in order to prepare for tests and manage time will ultimately be the most essential thing that I use in my life. Many people think that college does not prepare students to go into the real world and succeed in their fields and careers. I would agree with them to an extent. I feel like the preparation skills that they develop prove that statement wrong, because it makes them able to accomplish goals and overcome obstacles that they face in their early stages of working. They might not have experience in their field, but they have experience in meeting expectations and accomplishing tasks. This is why my attendance at a University has been valuable to me.

Brianna

I have grown as a person. I have learned different values of other people and been able to expand my views about the world. I have learned to volunteer and to help others. I have learned to become more friendly and more accepting of others.

Angela

My experiences at Baylor have taught me the necessity of promoting sustainability programs to keep the environment green and healthy as we continue in a world of progress. I have learned to be responsible in my environmental decisions as I further my career in the realm of scientific research. Not only has Baylor emphasized the economic and natural health benefits of a cleaner world, Baylor has emphasized that it is imperative that men and women of faith remain concious of environmental issues, as a parallel aspect of our faith. Second, my experiences at Baylor have brought me a greater awareness of cultural diversity. Baylor has one of the largest percentages of international students among universities, and from this I have had the privilege to become good friends with individuals from Japan, Korea, China, Germany, England, and even Brazil. With each person I meet, I continue to broaden my worldview by learning about his or her family background, traditions, beliefs, and practices. This has shaped how I view myself in relation to the world, by providing me with a broader appreciation for the beauty of the entire human race.

drake

So far, i have met some really good friends. Baylor has provided me with some opportunities with i believe that no other school could be able to offer me. I strongly believe that Baylor is a special place, with special people. I like the fact that the teachers actually care about you and are not there to just there because of research. It has been valuable for me to attend because i think that the things that i've learned is not only good for the test, but for life after graduation day.

Alicia

i have gotten a lot out of my college experience. people think they have to have this college life when really is it just sets you back, not always, but a good reputation is what's needed and gets you through. I've learned to trust yourself before others and keep focused, work hard and achieve your goals. Every minute of life is worth taking and learning; you have to have a college education to get to plan A to plan B. people take so much for granit and think everything gets or can be handed to them because they've had it easy, but sooner or easy it'll soon hit. not everything comes easy; challenege, discpline and determination. don't let a opportunity pass by before its too late. its been valuable, because its shown me apart of or small portion of a college life and a little bit of reality taste like.

adrene

"Start here. Go anywhere", the Borough of Manhatten Community College catch phrase. I can tell you with confidence that they weren't just picking out cute sloans for the hell of it . This coming from a person who thought their life ended by coming to a two year school. But my experience here has taught me differently, it has shown me that greatness can be achieved anywhere, that even the so called losers can rise to the top, beating out the future politicians of our time. In being here, it has given me confidence to pursue goals the me before would have been too afraid to do. In turn allowing me to dream bigger and work harder for it. It has taught me the importance of standing up on my own and just going for it. All of these things are very important to me because it has helped me to become an better person and finally developing a goal of my own. If I had not attended I wouldn't have been able to learn the things that I had or meet the people I did which contributed to my experience.

Kelly

Baylor University is a small Christian school which provides many opportunities for students to succeed. All the faculty and staff try their best to help students succeed. Because of Baylor University, I have many opportunities to learn and succeed in college. I am able to build relationships with my peers and my professors. I truely believe that all of the professors at Baylor are there to make sure every student is geting the best college experience they can. I know that the transition from high school to college would have been much more difficult had it not been fo the personal relationships that I've built with my peers and professors. My study groups and many areas to do school work together has helped me make new, encouraging friends that I know will last a lifetime. My memories at Baylor will always be a positive one, and I know that the knowledge that I have recieved from the classes will help me perform well in my career.

Jamie

I am a single working mother so I know that education is very important and needed to advance in my career. In going to college I have learned that eventually hard work and determination will pay off in the end. I currently have an Associate's Degree and that helped me get the job that I currently have. I know with a Bachelor's Degree I can go even furthur in life. I also know finishing school will be a great example for my daughter when she gets older.

Jaypee

Got the education I came here for, as well some friends along the way. I'd say it's valuable for both the aformentioned things, as well as the fact that it's a fairly religious area (which I took into consideration for applying to a college away from home).

Amaka

I've recieved the ability to stand up for myself, and realize that there are opportunities for me to go further than I ever thought possible. Baylor gave me the ability to think beyond a degree, towards something I am truly passionate about: psychology. This school is valuable to me because I was fortunate to meet individuals who inspired me with their passion for teaching, and their desire to make sure their students understood the subject matter. I hope to inspire my future students in the same way, and am grateful to Baylor for providing us with faculty who came to school with more than a spring in their step everyday.

Jessica

I have received so many things from my college education so far and I still have two full semesters ahead of me. My greatest accomplishment is maintaining a 4.0 GPA over my last five semesters at Baylor. Along with that, I have joined numerous honor societies: Alpha Lambda Delta, Alpha Chi, and Delta Epsilon Iota. I am also involved in an organization for my major, Speech Pathology, called NSSHLA. It is a Hearing and Language Association. Outside of academics, I am a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. In my sorority, I am on social committee, help build the float for Baylor's Homecoming Parade, participate in intramurals, and am a dancer for SING and Pigskin, Baylor's dancing/singing performances every fall and spring. I also am a part-time worker at a local day care during the school years and summers. I really cannot begin to describe all the great things I have had the privilege of participating in at Baylor. In high school, I would have never imagined all the great memories and friends I would be making. Baylor is the BEST place for me, I am postive and very very grateful!

Katelynn

I have grown so much as an individual intellectually, spiritually, emotionally and socially. Being in college has allowed me to step out of my confort zone and challenge me in ways that I never could have done in high school or staying at home. It has shown me how strong I am and how strong I can be and that with God, nothing is impossible. I've reexamined who I am and have become more of a leader than I thought possible.

Hope

The college lifestlye has been an eye opening experience. I have learned so much about life. I've learned to balance not only school, but working and managing my own bills and rent. It has been a journey that I wouldn't change for anything. I know I'll take the experiences I've learned in college and apply them to my future as a nurse, mother, wife, and whatever else that is in store for me. I've really enjoyed college and would do it all over again if I had the option. I'd repeat the good and bad because I've learned so much from both. I wish everyone had the same opportunity that I've had because I truly feel that it is valuable to attend.

I have made friends that I know I will have and can rely on for the rest of my life. In the year and a half that I have been here I have learned more than I thought was possible to learn in such a short time. I've discovered myself and have found hobbies that I will keep for the rest of my life. I feel that I will be much better prepared for my career in having received a degree at Baylor. I feel that attending college no matter what college is essential to attaining a better career and to being a well rounded person.

I have wanted to attend school here since I was six years old, however I did not expect to be treated as a minority that must participate in some sport to attend school here. However, I am here to get an education by learning from my professors that create tests to measure my knowledge of the material taught in class. I have gained knowledge of what I would like to do after I graduate as a result of my attendance here. My goal would be to help get more minorities into college without the status of an athlete to end the simple minded thinking that most minorities are attending college backed by some sports scholarship. My school tries to help those less fortunate than ourselves by stepping out to offer a hand in the community, but the way that many people on this campus view minorities is what through experience is an unacceptable way to treat anyone. I believe that we as human beings should try to overcome self-centeredness and treat all people fairly. My experience at this university has led me to believe that I was placed here for a reason to see that the world needs change.

In my college experience, I have grown to understand that life is not easy or simple and you have to work hard and struggle to accomplish the things you want. Even with serious problems and hardships, you must move ahead and do the best you can. If you can not grow to understand how important life and success can be, then you will have a hard time accomplishing the things you want. Even though life is full of extreme difficulties and set backs, the only thing that one can do is to move forward. We can not change the past, only attempt to strengthen and improve the future. This college experience has been valuable because it has taught me to struggle past the things that seem impossible and never give up hope, even when things seem like they can get no worse.
