I have loved attending Baylor University. I think the classes they offer and the professors who teach them are world-class. I feel overly prepared to enter the world, find a job, and execute it well. The school does a great job of balancing academics and fun! People love to go to sporting events, Sing, and get involved in other campus activities. I have made some of my closest friends at Baylor, and I would recommend that anyone who is thinking about attending Baylor should!

I absolutely love Baylor. It was my dream school for so long and when I got accepted, I was overjoyed. It is a lovely community and everyone is so kind and respectful. Professors are super kind and understanding. Overall, it is a great school to be at.

Kathryn - 12/24/2022

Baylor is a school that combines faith, sports, academics, and family like none other. Baylor offers many opportunities for students to become involved in organizations and clubs. Two things that stood out to me at Baylor when I was on an official tour were the school pride and the sense of community. Those aspects have only continued to be fostered and experienced at my time at Baylor. It is the best school ever!

Baylor is what you make it to be. It's in a small town, so there's that to account for. However, it's a 1-2 hour drive to Dallas and Austin and Waco usually has something going on. The university always has activities or events to participate in, and sports is a big thing as well (the tickets are FREE for students). Academics are also great, especially for nursing and pre-med majors. Almost everyone you meet will be around the medical field. The teachers I've had are amazing and are very passionate about what they teach. They're open to discussion usually, and the classes are often on the small side, making room for a more closer atmosphere if you're into that. The education is great as is the funding. I would say the dorms are ok. Nothing to complain about and they aren't claustrophobic like other college dorms. The dining food is not a five-star meal, but they make do. It'll be a hit or miss depending on the dining hall. Greek life is a big thing here, but there's no pressure to join. I'd worry about hazing if you do, however. It's a dry campus, so that's also something to be aware of, which wasn't a big thing for me when I applied. It's also a Christian college, which will take a portion of your classes up, and houses a mainly conservative political view. I'd recommend you take those items into consideration if you would rather not take a couple of courses on Christianity or be surrounded by a majority right-wing student population. People here are very polite (it's Texas so opening doors for other people is a must) and I have to say that the atmosphere is friendly. For me, Baylor is a great place to learn in and meet people and there's a lot of fun to be had if you take the risk to join in.

Baylor University FAQS

  1. What is the Acceptance Rate at Baylor University?

The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Baylor University is 39%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020 , _____ students were offered admission. The number of males who applied was _____ vs the number of females which was _____.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

If I had the chance to go back in time and talk to myself, I would better prepare myself for the hard transition of moving two thousand miles away right after graduating high school. The transition from living with my family to living on my own in a complete different state has been a difficult one and it takes a lot of time to get adjusted. Sometimes I even consider transferring back home just to be with my family and friends. I would also tell myself to better prepare for college financially; saving up and understanding all the costs of living on your own. Had I been better prepared, it would have made the transition to college a lot easier and I wish I would have taken saving for college more seriously. Baylor is a great school but had I known how hard it would be, I would have considered staying home for a couple years to better prepare myself for the transition of moving away as well as balancing working and going to school. It would have made affording Baylor easier and would have reduce home sickness both of which can affect my productivity in school.

  4. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

I'd say that it is probably that amount of financial aid given. My school is very expensive and every year the tuition seems to increase. This puts a strain in all the students' pockets.

  5. Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

My objective was to find a school with a good business program and an NCAA equestrian team. I applied to 10 schools and was accepted to all of them but could only secure a spot on the equestrian team with 3 of those schools. One of them, Baylor, has a great business school ands they offered me a small academic scholarship which helped me in my decision as Baylor was the most expensive school of the 3 finalists. Now that have one year under my belt, I have to admit that I love being at Baylor.

  6. What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

I wish I had known that on-campus parking is often crowded, and the parking decals are quite expensive. So it isn't really worth having a car if you live on campus, as long as you can get a ride to the grocery store with a friend.

Baylor university is a special place. I think that baylor has this feeling of acceptance form day one. Everyone here is very well dressed, as well as very friendly. The best thing about Baylor University is its size. Baylor is large enough to be a highly regarded academically and in sports, but small enough to provide students with mostly small classes and easy access to professors. A person who wants to be around good, moral people who are trying to be the best they can should attend this school.

  10. What kind of person should not attend this school?

I do not believe it is right to decide whichever person should not be allowed to attend Baylor. That is unethical. The only person that shouldn't attend Baylor would be someone who doesn't want to be there. When a person is forced to be at a place they don't want to be, they tend to be unproductive. Your not going to want to make progress at a place you feel is not for you. Baylor students all have strong Baylor pride. Also, everyone is welcome.

  11. What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

The most frustrating thing about school is trying to attend a school that offers so much, but doesn't put the information out there for it's students to find out. It's very frustrating to find out about different oppotunities offered by the University after you already passed the need for them. Baylor offers things, such as emergency loans, that most of it's students are unaware about unless someone who has found out the information tell you about it. The hidden opportunites are single-handedly the most frustrating aspect of this school.

  12. What is your overall opinion of this school?

I actually visited more than 20 schools before I decided to come to Baylor, and I LOVE it here. The campus is beautiful, the professors are friendly, and the students are wonderful. We have a ton of school spirit, BU pride, and great BU traditions here. Waco is really a cool city too. Sure, it's not as big as Dallas or Austin, but it has everything that you need, and there are plenty of fun things to do here.

  13. What are the academics like at your school?

The professors are what make this school so unique. Every professor I have knows my name, and I have built great relationships with many of them. Being from out of state, it was important for me to find people here to "take me under" their wings. I have a professor friend who drives me to and from the airport when I fly home, and she fixes dinner for me every week. The class sizes are small, and you can really easily get to know people.

  14. What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?

The small class sizes are really good. However the lack of social options is very discouraging, as is the lack of diversity. It's almost sickening to see students that are all cookie cutter.

  17. What is the stereotype of students at your school?

Baylor is supposed to be this big Christian college, but still welcoming to all people. It's not a party school, and the people should be a little nicer and more hospitable than the average student because we're Christians. Here you have the "Baylor family" and it should feel like home.

  19. What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?

Most people believe that students who have the opportunity to attend Baylor University come from extremely wealthy families and are therefore somewhat stuck up or snobby. While this may not be entirely untrue, there are far more genuine, caring people at Baylor than I have seen at any other university I have visited. With that being said, one of the stereotypes that holds true is that fraternities and sororities play a large part in the social experience. For instance, it is pretty rare to attend a party or event that is not organized by a fraternity or sorority. In some cases events are put on by other student organizations, but this seems to be a much rarer case. However, this stereotype should not cause future students to worry because Baylor is an extremely diverse campus and most people can find their niche within the first few weeks of the semester.

  20. Describe a day on campus you'll never forget.

Baylor shows lots of care for their multicultural students, they make us feel non-neglected. There was an event called Kaleidoscope for upcoming multicultural freshman. It was a lock in that would introduce us to other future Baylor students and current Baylor students. That was a day that I really fell in love with Baylor University and the diversity it had to offer.
