Bethel University-Saint Paul Top Questions

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Nicole

I wish I had known how boring campus was during the weekend. Most of the students live within an hour of school, while I am 7 hours away. It gets really quite on the weekends if I have no plans.

Ryan

All of the general ed requirments

Emily

College requires an extreme amount of hardwork and personal effort on the student's behalf. If you want to succeed in the classroom, you need to learn how to manage your time, money and resources properly. You will retain a lot more than you think and, in the end, you will be very thankful you took the classes you did. Don't give up when classes seem impossible because they will always get better. And, finally, don't always live by other people's words, live and learn for yourself and you will be great.

Dan

I wish I would have known more about other private Christian colleges. I did not get much information about other solid Christian colleges like Wheaton College for example. Bethel University seemed to work harder in reaching students from other states like me. No other colleges were at as many college fairs as Bethel.

Bridgit

I wish that I would have known more about how conservative Bethel was so that i could have come better prepared for some of the conservative/liberal issues that are discussed.

Patrick

I wish I had known the room sizes and all the different activities and clubs you could join. before I came to the school.

Janna

I wish I had realized how difficult some of the general classes are. Also, I wish I would have taken PSEO classes that would have transferred.

Natalie

I wish I had known more about the freshman living. If I would have had some previous knowledge, I could have put myself in an environment with students closer to my personality. Previously, I am living in a dorm that has a bad label and I feel like this prevents others from truly getting to know me as an individual. I also wish I could have known more about credit transfers, specifically how those courses would count for classes at Bethel.

Cody

I would have liked to have known the soccer coach before I got here, since the old one resigned very early.

Sara

That the campus life is radically different than most other colleges. It's hard, because I feel like I'm living in an Evangelical Christian bubble most of the time - perspectives aren't that varied, and most everyone has a similar story. Political views are largely conservative, and sometimes I feel like I'm getting biased information from others. I came to Bethel from a secular public high school, and the social life, information presented, and attitude of the students is very different. I wish I had known that.

Bethany

The tuition weighs heavy. One guy in my building isn't going to be able to finish his degree- he is out of aid

Greta

I wish I had known how wonderful Bethel is and what a great experience I would have while here before I came to Bethel because then I would have worried a lot less about coming to college.

Elizabeth

I wish I had known more about the theological beliefs of Bethel University.

Megan

There is nothing additional that I wish I would have known before I came Bethel University. They prepared me and the other incoming students extremely well for the lifestyle and classes that were soon to be adopted as our own.

Angela

I wish I had more information about the dorms on campus. I also wish I knew the job opportunities there are here at Bethel.

Rebekah

Huntington University is a very friendly school. There is not much, looking back, that I wish I would have known. Learning things here has been such a blessing. I do wish that I would have known that it reflected my high school experience. I mean this in relation to the size of the school, class sizes, and relationships with the professors. It has been a wonderful time thus far.

Laura

Before I came to Bethel University, I wish I would have know that it isn't perfect. I got the impression from my visits and other people that go here that there was nothing wrong with Bethel. But, since I have come here, I have realized that it is still just a college. There are people who don't always follow what they believe. I just wish they wouldn't have made it out to be something other than it is. It doesn't have to be perfect, but I don't want to be given a wrong impression.

David

I wish I had known and taken the opportunity that pseo offers. I think it would have been more beneficial to me.

Kimberly

I wish I had made a better plan financially. I would have gone to a Community College to cut down costs.

Phil

just how bethel is so secluded from the world. how much time college sports was going to take.

Tracy

Looking into schools, I was very focused on majoring in music at a Christian college. Now that I am 23 and have had time to reflect I would have done a lot differantl. First, I would have gone to Cosmetology school right out of high school because that is where my true heart's calling lies. Second, I would have picked a less expensive university or community college to attend because I am in debt up to my eyeballs. Third, I would have picked a state school in order to take advantage of state funding and cheaper tuitions.

Tim

I was surprised how open the professors are. I had heard they were open, but I did not expect them to be so open. They maintain the balance between being teachers, mentors, and friends masterfully.

Allan

I have been completely satisfied with my learning experience at Bethel.

Lydia

I wish that I would have known to not be afraid of change, but to embrace it full on. Many other people are going through the exact same change as I was, and it would have helped to ease my worries, knowing that I was not alone. Change is a good thing because it stretches us to do things we never thought we were capable of doing. Going to college was one of the biggest changes in my life, and if I would have known to not fear that change, my first college experience would have been so much better.

Michael

The only thing I wish I would have known is the change in difficulty from high school to college. College is more stressful when it comes to school work and extra ciricular activities. Balancing everything out can be tough, but its also a great way to be challenged. The amount of knowledge professors expect students to know is amazing. The pace is very fast and there isn't a lot of time for screwing around. I also wish I would have known the process of financial responsibilities better because those can be stressful.

Casey

It's a great place to make life-long friends

Kendra

That there is not much diversity within this school.

Emily

Before coming to Bethel University, I wish I would have known more about my time management skills before thrown into 18 credits worth of homework and studying each night. As a freshman, I've had to grow so much in discovering what my values are and learning to match the priority of those values with how much time I spend on each area.

Ryan

I wish that I knew the lack of diversity at Bethel before I came to this school.

Kyle

I wish I would have known how conservative this school was and how little diversity there is.

Carrie

That the more you get involved, the more your going to enjoy your time here.

Brittany

That having a car is a huge advantage!

Erin

That it isnt very diverse, and that everyone is the same.

Nicholas

To be open.

Katie

I wish I knew that the freshman dorms have trouble accessing the wi-fi internet. This can be a big hastle because the connection is very inconsistant.

Kelsey

This school is extremely acedmenic based.

Nelly

Students should be prepared to have an open mind to learning information that may cause them to challenge their current viewpoints. They should also know that it is ok to be challenged, and know that this school has systems, staff, and fellow students who are incredible at challenging yet balancing their views.

Matt

I wish I knew about the campus activities.

Alison

I wish I would have been more prepared for the amount of work that was necessary to do well in college.

Jamie

I wish that I would have known that many of the general courses have very little to do with my major and my interests. Lots of the gen ed courses are not very applicable.

Victoria

What major I would be.

Emily

I wish I had known that there were so many preppy people here. That's not neccessairly a bad thing, but being a shy person makes it really hard to make new friends and find people with common interests.

Kelsey

The time commitment of various extra curriculars. I am involved in the choir and didn't realize the extent of time rehersals would take away from other areas of my life.

Neil

I don't think there was much that I didn't know before I came here to Bethel University.

Caitlin

-Find an appropriate balance between school work and socializing - get invovled! -get to know people!

Sandra

I think that I should have been more aware that a campus tour does NOT do this place justice. It was good, but it wasn't until I was a student that I finally fell in love with the school. I should have known that freshman may have difficulty finding classes for their schedule as well. That is always fixable though as there are numerous options all the time!

Kevin

I wish I would have known more about other people's beliefs and ethnicities.

Christine

Coming into Bethel University, I kind of knew what to expect. I knew that it was a Christian university, which is one of the main reasons I decided to attend this school. However, it was fairly difficult for me at the beginning of the school year. Everyone always talks up how great college is, yet I was having a rough time finding friends. I wish it would have been emphasized more that everyone is going through the same thing, and that I should not be discouraged, but keep branching out to others.

Jessica

I wish I had known that Bethel's registrar's office has an extremely difficult time keeping track of transfer records. Since I'm a student who has transfered in approximately 13 credits, it was not easy for me to have to make multiple trips and phone calls and fill out forms several times to ensure that all my credits were appropriately transferred in, as Bethel lost my records several times.

Sarah

It sounds silly, but I wish I had known not to set my standards for people so high. Attending a Christian private school, I expected many people to be similar to myself. I am very conservative and practical and expected many people to be the same way. I wish I had also been prepared for living with so many different people in a small space. Not just roommates, but classmates and teachers as well. There is no place to really "escape" each other which forces people to deal with situations head on.
