Tell us about the food and dining options.

Sam

Brandeis has two main dining halls, Sherman and Usdan. Sherman offers both kosher and non-kosher options in an all-you-can-eat style buffet. One of the nice things about it is that students who are kosher can have meals with theirs friends who aren't. Usdan offers mostly non-kosher options that students pay for by the item. The variety of choices is usually greater in Usdan than in Sherman. Usdan also has a Quinzos in it that is open until midnight five days a week. The food at the two dining halls is probably a little above average as far as college dining hall food goes, however, the sushi should be avoided in Usdan, I know many people who have gotten sick eating it. One of the nice things about Brandeis is that there are many options beyond the dining halls. In Usdan, there is the POD market, which students call the C-store. The C-store is a mini market with a ton of things students could buy at a normal convenient store. The Freal smoothies stand out as a favorite of mine. There is another POD market called the V-store, under the Village dorms on lower campus. Some of the other options on campus are the Einstein's bagels in the student campus, center, and the Campus restaurant called the Stein, which is open from 5-9pm seven days a week. The wings and the Greek Pizza are both very good at the Stein. The Einstein bagels is VERY popular, and the Stein is a great change of pace. The Stein also become Ollie's Eatery from 11pm-3am on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Ollie's serves mostly breakfast food, as well as their famous waffle fries. Lastly, students are allowed to eat at the faculty club for lunch. Few, if any schools allows students to eat there, and trust me, it is a great place to eat. It is the best food on campus by far, serving restaurant quality food. Every student should make sure they get there a few times a semester. Thankfully, all of these great options can be paid for by using the dining points on every student's meal plan. Unless you are kosher, I highly recommend getting a meal plan with as many dining points as possible so you can take advantage of places to eat on campus that aren't the dining halls. One other keep in mind is that Waltham has a ton of great restaurants that deliver. When you are looking for non-Brandeis food, there are plenty of excellent delivery places, such as Chinese, pizza, wings, empanada's, sushi that is actually pretty good, and Mexican
