It definitely isn't for everyone, but I love it! Everyone works hard and wants to improve. It's a good environment and everyone is welcome. Some classes are smaller, and in those the teachers are more available! Everyone is social on the weekends so there are always fun things going on!
I think it is a great value, as far as the education you receive for the tuition. And if you are LDS, the tuition is even better, and you are likely to fit in with culture. You may be in heaven here, or it might be merely familiar. That being said, the culture and the administration can be overbearing, to the point that it might not be worth it. Knowing what I know now, I think I would choose to go somewhere else. The main thing I have realized since graduating is that the target market for BYU is the affluent Mormon parents of prospective students. Mormons are afraid that their kids are going to away to college and start to question their religious upbringing and conservative worldview. BYU offers the solution. Kids can get a legit private school education, and they can never leave the church while enrolled, or they will be kicked out of school! That's just what some parents (and some students) are looking for, I suppose, but for other. it kind of defeats the purpose of higher education.
I LOVED every minute here! From the Bells and Devotionals to the big game nights and study labs and religion classes, I loved it all! I loved how we were able to learn serious academic subjects alongside gospel truths. I love the friendships that were made and the eternal companion I found.
This school is seriously the best and I absolutely love it. this town is just a good place to go to school. It’s safe, but you still get the “college scene” and the “college experience” in the quirkiest way. It’s not hard to meet new people at all. Seriously, I pretty much came here with almost no friends a couple of acquaintances from high school. But I made friends so quickly with so many people from so many different places. Academically, you can’t beat BYU. The classes are challenging, but there are so many resources to aid you in your classes. There’s always something to do on campus, and it isn’t hard to meet to people at all. Sports events are a blast, even if our teams aren’t that good. And overall, everyone here is just so genuine and nice. We maintain high standards that will set us on a course that will benefit us for the rest of our lives. We live by our motto, “Enter to learn, Go forth to serve.”
The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Brigham Young University-Provo is 51%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020 , _____ students were offered admission. The number of males who applied was _____ vs the number of females which was _____.
Katherine, take college seriously but don't take yourself too seriously. Study hard, play hard, and live life to the fullest. Your potential is eternal and with God you can achieve any and all of your dreams. Enter to serve; go forth to learn.
White Mormon kids from California who don't necessarily know a ton about the real world.
The constant change in weather since it is never predictable and can change at the worst times.
Brigham Young University provides a clean and uplifting environment for learning. We are encouraged to become better people while preparing for our future lives. BYU men's basketball has had an extremely great year and this publicity has drawn attention to the honor code that we sign upon acceptance to this school. The honor code is a huge part of what makes this school so unique and wholesome.
It's a well rounded school, but also has a stong emphasis on religion and how it can apply to your life.
The best thing about this school is definitely the curriculum and the people here. The curriculum sets you up for a successful future. Employers respect BYU graduates and we leave well prepared for the real world. The people here are extremely kind and genuine. We care about each other and usually go out of our own ways to assist each other.
I wish I had better understood about general education classes and when I should take them. My reccomendations is when you first get to school go and talk to an academic advisor!
everyone should
If you're looking for a religious college setting, a fabulous social life, and a lot of hard, worthwhile work, BYU is the place for you. A person who attends this school need to be dedicated. This dedication is not only regarding academics and a career path. I'm speaking of dedication to making life in every aspect the best it can be. BYU encourages setting goals socially, morally, physically, and mentally. Improvement and lifelong learning is the ultimate goal here and if you want to grow, BYU is the college for you.
I brag about the environment. Brigham Young University is known very well for it's high expectations regarding moral standards. Because virtuous living is promoted here, there is an uplifting feeling on campus and in the off-campus housing for BYU. I grew up in Las Vegas, and can say that the feelings I experienced there were much different, much more negative, than what I have felt here. I feel that I have matured more not only spritually because of the environment, but academically. BYU is a friendly, moral, and happy place to be; it's the place for me.
BYU is best known for the fact that it is an LDS school. Another thing BYU is famous for is its business school. The Marriott School of Business is constantly ranked among the best business schools.
Sometimes the feeling of jumping into a relationship is annoying. Most people here want to get married and it's common for people to assume you want a serious relationship with them if you act interested as a friend, which isn't true lots of the time.
The general classes everyone is required to take are usually the least favorite course. Even then, they aren't too bad! Everyone participates and students are competitive yet willing to help each other. Professors are easy to reach outside of class.
I love BYU. Lots of people dont. People that come to BYU do so because they want to be around other people who share their morals and standards. We dont want to have the temptation of drinking and partying that exists at other schools. This is a huge reason people come here but then a lot of kids complain that Provo is a boring town...which its not at all. We are 20 minutes from 11 incredible ski and snowboard resorts. There is tons to do in Provo. Bowling, iceskating, tons of sports, concerts, tooons of places to go out to eat, dance parties all the time, etc. Dont complain if you come here. YOU chose to come here.
Students love going to basketball, football, and baseball games. The dating scene is very involved. People are rarely found drinking or partying on the weekends; movies, hiking, and dances are more common.
Thier goal is to get you married before you get your undergraduate degree.
yes. all true.
Students are stereotyped as 'goody-goods' which is mostly accurate! More positive stereotypes are driven, focused, and giving.
Almost all students love to support BYU football! It's kind of a big deal. We also have an avid fan section for our women's soccer team.
