What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

Micah

The worst thing about my school is the lack of a spring break. For whatever reason, we do not have one and it is very difficult to trudge through sixteen weeks straight of school rather than having a rejuvinating breathing time in the middle before getting a second wind.

Cosette

There is a very high pressure to get married and start a family that combines with the high pressure to do well in school and just puts a lot of pressure on the students.

Jessica

The worst thing? not enough parking on campus!!!! gosh! and the classes are huge.. take honors if you want small classes. The on-campus housing was full and that kinda sucked.

Allyssa

Since it is a religious school, Brigham Young University has a unique culture. In most cases this culture is helpful and a good way for students who have the same ideals to study together. However, there is one aspect I hate. I am eighteen, in my second semester of college and I feel like an old maid. The pressure to get married is ridiculous and it is almost a social stigma if a person doesn't have a ring on their finger.

Gary

One of the most blatantly apparent aspects of Brigham Young University is that it has a very strict honor code system that carries a substantially heavy fine for disobeying. Consequently this provides a significant culture shock for people who are from backgrounds in which the standards of the honor code weren't prevalent in their community or in their own personal life. I personally am one of those individuals. I found it rather difficult to find my click of people because the majority of the people were to "mormony" for my taste; this is in accordance with any LDS college.

Starla

The worst thing about BYU is probably the cost of off campus housing. It's not too bad, but it takes a pretty decent chunk of money.

Stephen

Snow during the winter.

Amy

Everyone seems judgemental and it is very hard to be yourself.

Amy

BYU is a great school, but the financial services and payment options are horrible. Everything is online or over the phone. There are no people who you can sit down with and talk to face-to-face. The deadlines are hard to find as well. The online web system is very confusing even with the tutorial and it gives no help when trying to find ways to pay for school.

Cynthia

Students and faculty are very nice, but there is a lack of ethnic diversity and there are more female students than male.

Rachelle

I love attending Brigham Young University and all the things I learn. The students that attend this university are among the top in the world. The requirements to get into this school are very challenging. Overall the students live the way they are supposed to here. However, more and more we find that the students that attend are not living the way they are supposed to be living. They are going against what we are taught but do not portray the honesty they should when admitting that they are not living right.

Ryan

I really do not have any complaints.

Byron

I wish there was more diversity among the students. I grew up in Atlanta and I am very accustomed to cultural diversity. I enjoy living and being around different cultures.

Lesley

The rigidness of religion and how it diminishes diversity.

Sheng

too much mormons

Sarah

One of the worst things about the school is that there are so many students and sometimes not enough of a class. Its hard to get into a class when there are over 27,000 students attending. As I was registering for classes for the next semester I realized that most of the classes I had planned on taking were already full. I had finally after much time decided on what classes to take and then came to find out that they are all full and I will have to choose another set of classes.

Daniel

It is really hard, because it is competetive

Doris

People are happy on the inside, but do not show it on the outside. A lot of people look down when they walk to avoid eye contact. It is difficult to get classes when you are on schedule because those students who are late graduating can register before you.

Austyn

The constant change in weather since it is never predictable and can change at the worst times.

Jessica

The worst thing about my school is that there is little diversity. Most students that attend are middle-upper class, caucasion and LDS. We have a lot of students from other countries but not a diverse group from here. It would be better for all students to be exposed to more diversity.

Michael

BYU attracts a homogenous student body. More diversity would enrich the student experience.

Melissa

There are so many people so it's easy to not be involved in class. Students have to figure things out on there own. If the class is big it's hard to ever communicate with the teacher, even by email.

Bryan

The worst thing at this school is the lack of religious diversity. Although I am a part of the religious majoriity here, I feel that the overwhelming presence of people of the same faith can somewhat diminish the value of some experiences. People's minds are easily tainted by justification and are quick to "go with the flow" when religious pressures are involved.

Christine

The workload is incredibly intense. In order to succeed at this school, you will work harder than you ever have before.

Jessica

Students tend to be very conservative and close-minded. Although the teachers are generally more open and try to help their students to see things without being biased, students here usually are not comfortable with the idea of people who choose to live a very different life style. Many of the students have much to learn when it comes to not being judgmental. The honor code every student is forced to adhere to is restrictive, and also a reason many students choose not to attend BYU.

Shalynn

There are a lot of large classes which decreases the amount of time that each professor can give for individual students. In some cases the teacher may be a little difficult to understand, but their desire to help makes the learning process easier.

Tim

The "worst thing" about this school is the strong desire of many students to be the best in their class. Few students come here with a desire to pass college an obtain a middle level job; most of the students want to excel in their degree which creates an intense competition for grades.

Kathryn

I can't think of the "worst thing" about BYU. I love everything about it.

Hortencia

The worst thing about Brigham Young University is that it is nothing wrong with the educational system so you never want to stop to study. Perhaps it is the worst thing that at the same way is the best. Brigham Young is a place where you can find everything to be a better human, so you never want to let go school, and we should apply to the world everything we learn. Brigham Young is a place of friendships and it's hard to leave them. Then the worst thing is that when you are here you love it.

Rainy

Some might say it's a little too big, but I don't mind. Even though it's a big school, students don't get lost or forgotten.

Jared

The inability to accept people for their differences and intolerant nature in general.

Abigail

The worst thing about BYU is that there is barely any diverstiy. Compared to where I grew up (New Jersey) there is pretty much no diversity. No differing opinions. Though they are presented in class discussions, no one really takes those different sides.

Celeste

I would consider the worst thing about my school to be that occasionally the class sizes tend to be quite large, but the professors have teachers assistants to help them, so usually students are still able to find help if they need it.

Emily

Most of the students and staff at Brigham Young University are strictly conservative, which is understandable considering our moral views on the sanctity of marriage between man and woman as well as our prolife views. I wish there was more tolerance or education for liberal views that are easily overlooked at BYU because of the focus on moral issues. I think Mormon conservatives at BYU fail to see that moral issues are not the only important thing to consider when engaging in politics.

Tasha

The only bad thing is the competition to get into prestigious programs, but it's not that bad because the programs and not the people are competitive.

Christopher

I am very fortunate to come from an area rich in diversity from Chinese, Japanese, and Korean backgrounds as well as Hispanic, Polynesian, and European backgrounds. At Brigham Young University I feel that there isn't enough diversity some times. I love learning about different cultures.

Shannon

There isn't a lot of diversity really.

Jordan

The worst thing about my school is that it is probably that it is not as diverse as it needs to be. I am from Atlanta and my home there is much more diverse. Also, the honor code that the school has in practice is a good thing, but sometimes people can take it to the extreme. People can be fairly judgemental sometimes.

Hilary

The worst thing about my school is that some programs don't have the funding needed to allow many students to participate, namely the nursing, and business programs along with a few others. This makes some programs very competitive and hard to get into. It is worth trying though because of the status these programs hold in the business world. If someone doesn't get in, they might want to go to another school, but at least try and don't get down on yourself for not getting in. There are still opportunities.

Megan

The testing center is crowded

Adam

Parking.

Raven

There is a lot of pressure to get married. I think too many students rush into marriage without really getting to know their spouse which could caouse potential problems in the future. I believe part of that is due to the enormous pressure we get emphasizing marriage

Steele

Nothing. I am truly blessed. It is amazing.

Jennifer

The hardest thing about being a student at BYU is the pressure to perform. Most of the majors are incredibly competitive and getting into your major can be nervewracking and scary.

Cassandra

If you're looking for a liberal, urban schoo, I would not choose BYU. Although it is a lot of fun, it is certainly not where I had pictured myself living. It takes some getting used to, but in the end, it has made me a better, more creative and service oriented person. There is also a lot of pressure to get married, which can be a little aggrevating, but is definately over-comeable.

Missie

The worst thing about this school is the way that they "encourage" everyone to date so much, because it can get really annoying to hear it being said so many times (that you can find your spouse here). Other than that, this school is pretty amazing.

Melissa

BYU has a strict standard that everyone must adhere to. Though I appreciate the standards it has, those who don't always follow that set of standards tend to be looked down upon. BYU is not very racially or religiously diverse. It is overwhelmingly caucasian and Mormon. It sometimes feels like we're living in a "bubble", kept safe from the outside world. That is not necessarily a good thing.

Lauren

Some classes have a large work load.

Greg

The worst thing about my school is the highly competitive nature of the undergraduate class. BYU students apply to professional schools in numbers unmatched by any other school in the country. We turn out vast amounts of medical doctors, lawyers, dentists, PhDs, CPAs, and MBAs. This fact places a largely competitive tinge to the school. While other facilities are obliquely competitve, Brigham Young is overt in its desire to become an institution of academic revere and esteem.

Janell

There's not much that I dislike about this school, and if I do dislike something, it's because a class does not particularly interesting. I highly enjoy the campus atmosphere and the activities that are offered.
