You should bring warm clothes.

Christine

I wish I knew how difficult some of the classes were going to be, so I could have avoided them.

Kristen

I wish I had known about all of the diversity at this school! It is one of the most amazing things about it. Granted, I came from Coeur d' Alene, Idaho, which is made up of pretty much only white people, but down here in Provo, there are people from all over the world! Mostly Asia and the United States, but other ethnic groups too. It was a bit of a culture shock for me at first, but now it's not so strange to be walking to class and to hear another language being spoken.

Keri

How to study and actually know information and not just memorizing facts.

I feel that I was pretty well prepared for my college experience here.

I wish that I would have known more of what I wanted to do major wise so that I wouldn't have wasted time finding what I liked to do. Although I didn't know what I wanted to do when I arrived at Brigham Young University I was able to gain more knowledge in different areas of expertise. I do wish I would have felt more comfortable with going to teachers to ask for help. But I keep learning and growing so it is great.

Benjamin

I wish that i had a better understanding of financial aid opportunities and how to apply for them.

Ashley

I felt very prepared before I came to my college. The only thing that I wish I had known before I arrived was how to study better and how to motivate myself to do work early without procrastination. I have learned a lot by taking on greater amounts of responsibility, which is typical when moving out of the house. I feel that I was prepared and do not have regrets about not asking parents or others more about coming to college.

Brian

I wish I had known how much I would enjoy college. When I first began college at BYU I wasn't very excited about attending. However, as time has passed, I have a new love for learning and working with new people on a daily basis. I wish someone had been able to show me how much I would enjoy college at this university.

Ari

Read the textbook. Go to class.

Amber

BYU is it's own world where your personal life and acedemic life are smashed into one because of 3 things: 1) you go to church with the same people you go to school with, 2) you are very limited to when and where you can spend time with the other sex-according to the Honor Code, 3) off campus housing is stricktly limited to a 2-mile radius; which all leads to pressure and great insentive for quick marriages and great spiritual judgement by peers and mentors.

Christine

The only thing I wish i would have known was how cold it is in the winter. I lgrew up in California and I am not used to the snowy cold winters.

Josh

I would have liked to get more involved in extra-curricular activities earlier on.

More about Graduate Programs

Erica

Before coming to this school, I wish I had known how competitive the extracurricular programs and activities would be. I was aware of the high competitiveness of the academic programs, but I didn't know that the clubs and intramural programs would be so competitive. There are so many options for participating in activities outside of school classes, however tryouts are rigorous and only the best are considered. Because of this, the only way to try out activites is by taking a class for it, which in turn uses up credits. This costs money and makes learning new talents difficult.

Danielle

It's important to know about the Ad/Drop card. If you can't get into a class because it's full, just take an Ad/Drop card to that class the first day, and odds are you'll get into the class!

Lindsey

That most, if not all of the stereotypes of the dating life here are false.

Kirra

I wish I had had better information about on-campus employment before I came to Brigham Young University. It would have helped me to procure a better job with regular hours. On-campus employment is very convenient now that I have the information that I needed for it to be effective for me.

Chelsea

I wish I would have known how to study before I came to college. My freshman year was one of the hardest years of my life because I didn't know how to adequetly prepare for class or take tests. As a result my grades were dismal and my GPA fell below a 3.0; which makes finding scholarships to finance my schooling nearly impossible.

Carlos

I wish that I would have known how to budget my time better. My classes require a lot of time and dedication and I've had to learn in college how to study. This school is more diverse than you would think, and there are plenty of opportunities to have different view points. I wish I would have been more involved in school activities since there are plenty opportunities to do so.

Cara

I wish I had lived closer to campus. There really isn't much I would have needed to know that I didn't know before. The school was very easy to adjust to and to become familiar with. Everyone is very friendly and helpful.

Sara

I wish I had known more about how to register for classes and how to find off-campus housing.

Briana

Remember that you don't have to fit in with everyone. Be patient, you'll find those people that fit you perfectly. Don't try to change yourself. And be as involved and you can!

Sarah

I wish I had known what major I wanted or at least what classes to take before I can to this school.

Nicole

I wish I had known what clubs were available and joined them at the start.

Samantha

I wish I had know more about the resources available to students. This would include research help, career advisement, volunteering offices, and things like that. It would have helped to kow these things so that when I needed them for shcool I knew where to go instead of wandering everywhere. I also wish I would have know how much they use the online program Blackboard; it is used a lot more that I thought.

Sierra

What the programs were like.

Erin

I wish I had known more about how to balance school and socializing. I've always been a good student, yet in coming to college I have struggled to make time for a social life while working on my studies.

Alison

I wish I had known that the social life is really quite dull unless you're dating someone. Being single at BYU is rough.

Better study habits

Even though people joke about the marriage stereotype here, it is a greater part of campus life here than I thought. Even though the vast majority of students belong to the same religion, there are a number of them who are so hypocritical about the the things that say and do. Another thing is that the weather is extremely diffifult to deal with if you come from a sunny place.

Natalya

Honestly, I felt really prepared before I came here and I think that I knew everything i needed to before coming here

Emily

Cameron

I wish i would have known where my life would be heading so that I could pick a school that would better suit my needs.

Ken

I wish I would have know about the honors program before I came to BYU. If I would have known about the program as a freshman, I would have attended more cultural arts events, which would have made it easier for me to fulfil the requirements for graduating with honors. I also wish I would have known how socally accepting and willing to help the student body is. I would have been not so stressed out about going to college.

Bradford

I wish I had known the level of intensity they expect for students in their studies.

Heather

I wish i'd have known that the winter season comes faster than expected and it gets so cold that you need more than just 2 layers. I wish i'd have known that balancing 18 credit hours plus a job plus a social life would be difficult but exhilerating all at the same time. I was extremely well informed before coming to BYU so I really don't have very much else I wish I'd have known before coming.

Tim

I wish i would have realized how competitive and proactive i'd need to be in order to be at the top of my class.
