What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Jesus

I would recommend visiting the campus a week in advance to familiarize yourself with your surroundings. Also very important meet the financial aid deadlines promptly. You don’t want to have to pay a little extra out of your pocket. Speak to an advisor when you’re exploring the campus. The advisors are there to help you out with a degree plan and should clarify most of the clutter. That way you don't waist precious time on classes not intended towards your major. Whenever time permits meeting with some professors is always a good idea, so you can understand what is expected of you. Because I know coming out high school you’re conditioned to turning assignments late. Well in most colleges professors do not accept late work. So to save you the troubles go and talk to someone. The last piece of adivisce i would offer is to take college seriously. You are paying for school. You are responsible for yourself.

College is going to be new and exciting. You will exposed to lifestyles and people that you have never encountered before. Remember who you are. Remember where you came from. Remember your dreams and your goals. Your life will be a series of events based on the decisions that you make. Take the time to make the right ones. Enjoy the college social life, but do not forget your studies. Your classmates will make an influence on your life, and you on theirs. Surround yourself with people who will influence you in positive ways. College will be hard. It will be hard mentally and emotionally. Do not be afraid of hard work, after all, anything worth doing is worth doing well. Have fun, make memories, but most importantly, do not forget who you are.

I would make myself not graduate when I was 16, id make myself get a high school diploma, and get college credit classes in highschool while its free. I would like to finish the High School life. I would want to be known and popular in my high school. I would like to have gone to Prom. The one major benefit in the long run, would be free college credit classes, WHILE in high school too! Thats what I would do if I had to start over again. Im not unhappy though where I am right now. I got to this point, right? Might as well keep going until I can't go no more.

If I could go back and have a chat with myself as a senior, I'd probably have a lot to say. One thing for sure would be to keep my focus. There is a lot of time to have fun, but you need to balance it with school work, because you don't have anyone on your back telling you what to do and when to do it. College is a growing experience and its a time where you need to be responsible for yourself. Another tip I would give myself would be to keep my morals. There are so many new people and experiences available that it is easy to fall into a crowd that isn't necesarily the best one to be a part of. It is very easy to lose yourself and become someone you think is the right person, because that is what you are surrounded by. Eventually you come to realize that that person isn't you and somethings need to change to get back on the right path. College is the time in your life where you really find out who you are as a person with ups and downs along the way.

I would tell myself it's really not as hard as everyone makes it seems. As long as your priorities are in the right place you can accomplish many great things while in school. I would also tell myself that college has a lot more to offer than High School did. I get to choose what I want to learn and when I want to do it. It's very nice to have that type of freedom.

If I could go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior about making the transition into college life, I would tell myself that the sacrifices made in order to attend college are definitely worth it. As a high school senior, my family did not care whether or not I went to college. My adopted mom died when I was 12, and there was no one around to encourage and help me make the transition into college. I tried to go on my own, but failed miserably, because I did not have the support system to help me. I have sacrificed a lot to be able to go to school this time around. I now know that all the sacrifices I have made will be worth it. When I graduate from college, I want to start my own business as a web designer and graphic artist.

I do not know that I would say anything to myself as a high school senior because I probably would not have listened. I went my own way and wouldn't stop for anyone. Also, I would not change or alter or remove a single event in my life because if one thing would have happened differently, like a domino effect, everything would have. Daily and Kiran are my sweet daughters and have taught me more about what is important in life than anyone or anything else ever could. I might not have learned these lessons without them. So, I am glad that I am in school now (older than most people anticipated) as opposed to then, even though the logistical and practical things are more difficult to juggle than they would be if I were fresh out of high school. However, what I would say to seniors in high school now is to stay away from drugs, only surround yourself with people who build you up, and embrace hobbies because they can sometimes tell you what you are good at and what you like doing, which is useful information to someone who is looking for an enriched carrer-life.

If I could go back to my senior year of highschool I would definetely tell myself to take the SAT and ACT seriously, to keep looking for scholarships because there are plenty of them out there and not all are based on gpa. Also I would tell myself to apply anywhere and everywhere even if you are not sure if you like the college or not, because you never know where life will take you. If you are open to many options then you wil not be taken by surprise no matter in life you end up. Also i would tell myself to listento your college counselors and do what they advise you to do because they actually know what they are talking about. So that is what I would say to myself if I could go back for sure.

Have a definite goal and degree plan. Check out the labor department's job outlook when making this decision. Check into all financial aid resources. Make your education your #1 priority. When others party, you study. Buy used textbooks to save money. Do not take more than 14 hours of classes or you will be overloaded. Find employment that will be related to your college and career goals and ask for tuition assistance.

Christopher

My advise that I would have given to my former self, would be to completely know which classes to take for the degree I'm pursuing, instead of taking using elective credits early on. Also to be sure to use as much time as possible to study and look over notes and limit the television, internet surfing, and "slacking" to a minimum.

The advises I would give myself if I could go back to my high school years are, first and for most is in the subject of selecting the colleges to apply to, know the school that is the best choice for your classmates are not necessarily the best selection for you so make a good consideration of what your interests and comforts lay up on the size of the school and the driving distance from home. Secondly, all the preparation for being a good candidate to a college is not just having the best grade point average and SAT scores but also having the set of mind for a college student. The study habits and formats are unlike of a high school setting, make time to visit and find college students to speak to regarding their experiences. Finally carefully to consider the school of choice available options for tuition assistance; the goal is to receive good education not become overwhelmed with student loans by the time you graduate. There are numerous available scholarships to apply to, make time to fill out and submit them before deadlines approach. I beleive these advices would have changed my first year of college imensely.
