How often should I phone home? Is once a day too much?

King

Hmm. weird question. I guess it depends on the person's relationship with his/her parents/family.

Of course it is up to every individual to determine how strongly they would like to remain in communication with home, and there is no perfect formula; however, I would be inclined to say that if you feel the need to be in daily contact with your parents, this might be signs of a greater reluctance to establish an independent life at school. I believe a healthy relationship between establishing privacy away from home and maintaining a relationship and communication with your parents usually manifests itself in something closer to 1-3 calls home a week. If someone is calling home daily, it just might be indicative of the fact that there are other ways they're not taking advantage of the exciting place they go to school.
