Tell us about the sports scene on campus.

Thomas

Many, many students are involved in some kind of athletic endeavor, though usually on the lower-commitment end. Many students play an intramural sport with friends, are involved in some kind of exercise class or program at one of the many gyms, or exercise flexibly with a community of their own. However, varsity athletics are not as big a scene as they are at many schools. Our school is certainly not known for its athletic excellence, and while I have found sporting events to be enjoyable community gatherings, I'm definitely not here because of the sports culture. Varsity sports are one of the more marginalized cultures at Brown.

Sports aren't that popular, at least among the people I hang out with. While a good proportion of the Brown population is on a sports team, people don't tend to go to games, and our top teams are in semi-obscure sports, such as the women's crew team.
