Butler University Top Questions

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Elaine

I wish I would have known more about buying college books. Never buy them from the university book store! They are typically overpriced, and you can get it else where for quite a bit cheaper. In addition, always look around for the best option before making the purchase.

Erica

I wish I had known to take AP Chemistry in high school. I also wish I knew that honors chemistry here is mainly for people who took ap chemistry in high school.

Kelsey

I wish I had known about more scholarship opportunities.

Chloe

I wish I had known how many interesting people; both with similar and dissimilar interests in comparison to me, I would have met and befriended.

Julie

I wish I had known more about the social environment of the school. Butler University as a whole has a very extroverted personality, and it is harder for those who are more introspective to find their niche. This can be a difficult adjustment and transition especially when it is so easy to sit back and watch all the socializing and not participate yourself.

Anna

How much it really was going to cost me per year

Madalyn

The food kind of sucks and it is really expensive, so take financial aid and scholarship stuff seriously and get a job whil you there.

Katie

I wish I would have known that the population at this school tends to make you conform to the "norm" during your freshman year here, although as the years pass it is easier to be my real self and not the person everyone at the school (the other students) think I should be to fit in.

Brittany

I wish I had known that college was going to be a major culture schock and that it's ok to not know exactly what you want to major in while entering college. I felt somewhat pressured to choose a major before I even got to college and my first couple days of class I started second guessing my decision. The second semester I took classes that interested me to find the direction I truly wanted to head in for a career. I ended up switching my major from my initial decision and I'm very happy with my choice!

Joshua

I wish I had known about the fraternities and sororities more. I did not know a lot about the system, and wish I would have gotten involved with it freshman year.

Alaina

I pretty much knew everthing I needed to know. The school is very competitve and a leader in the major I chose. Camous life is fun and full of oppurtunities.

Sarah

That the tuition was going to keep going up to be ridiculously expensive.

Colleen

More about the greek system.

Victoria

I know mostly everything that I needed to know before I came here.

Amber

I wish I would have known that the tuition would raise 5{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} or greater every year meaning that I will be in debt for almost as long as it takes to pay off a house.

Kevin

Social activities are based on a strong Greek atmosphere and I personally think that frats are over-rated. If drinking all the time or frat life isn't your thing then meeting people can be difficult. The school does not perform a musical every year and Clowes Hall is not owned by the university so many things are not performed there as I was led to believe (It can be rented, but is very expensive. The orchestra usually performs there though.) You cannot live off campus until you are a senior and the housing for junior year is $7000/year.

Emily

The way ethnicity is handled here. Really, any diversity. They talk a big talk about diversity, but when i first got here all of my friends and professors were white, and all the people working in the food club or janitors were black. i didnt notice until i came here. I also didn't know that people who were not christian, or who were gay, or were liberatarian, anything from the norm, would be treated so harshly here. If you're different, theres no room for you to have a voice or opinion. Even in the faculity.

Whitney

I would have wished that I would have known how hard the course load was.
