What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year at California Institute of Technology?

It's really hard. This sounds silly, but many students at Caltech found high school very boring and never had to work hard to do well. No matter how much you were the smartest kid in high school, you will have to work hard at Caltech and things will be confusing. If you can work hard, you get a great education that takes no shortcuts. I wish I had known what to expect, and learned to work harder in high school.

I wish I had known how difficult classes would be, and how success and challenge in high school simply do not compare. The reminders to seek help suddenly became much more necessary than I had prevviously thought.
