California Lutheran University Top Questions

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

Jessica

The most frustrating thing about school is just getting used to the change. College is very different than high school and it takes some adjustment. Just trying to grasp these changes on your own could be a little bit stressful at times, but once you figure it out is is all worth it.

Besides not having a commuter lounge room, there is nothing frustrating about Cal Lutheran. The school is actually building a new cafeteria and there would be one there. Besides that everything is perfect, even parking! Cal Lutheran gives you lots of financial aid, four places where one can eat, a library opened until midnight, a pool, a huge gym, and many other exercise classes that help students stay in shape and forget about stress. Another thing that is awesome about Cal Lutheran is that it has small classes taught by really intelligent professors that allow students to participate while learning.

Mariah

Trying to get classes from another university (private) transferred over.

Dominique

The most frustrating thing about Cal Lu, is the tuition. It raises every year making it harder for students who need finiacial assistance to get the money that they need in a sufficient amount of time in order to complete their degree. This is the issue that I am facing right now. Being the first in my family to attend university, and working multiple jobs to support myself without my parents assistance has been very hard. Both of my parents are working and it is a struggle for them to help me financially with tuition for my education.

stella

There is nothing I find frustrating about my school.

Lenaya

Coming in as a freshman, the most fustrating thing was how small the school is. However, it definitely grew on me and now I love it.I could not picture myself haing to wake up an hour earlier just ot go to class. Currently I don't really care for how the dorms are set up. The freshman are isolated from the rest of the students. Now as an upperclassmen I find it a little tougher to meet new people on other halls.

Troy

The most frustrating thing about California Lutheran University is to see that even with the most amazing faculty, there are still the students who find it convenient to take a nap during a lecture, or those who try to get by with doing as little as possible just to get through and grab their degree. Though, there are many financially privileged students who truly care about enhancing their education, there are still those who want to buy a degree instead of earn it. With this economy and job market being so competitive, it only motivates me to be my best.

Shannon

I think the most frustrating thing at CLU is room selection.

Bridgette

None

Mariela

The only thing that seems to frustrate me as well as many other students at CLU is the lack of parking spaces available for the amount of students who attend. Although they have been marked in order to increase the amount of spaces, it is definitely a hassle, as I'm sure it it as most other colleges.

Liona

The school is very small, so you come in contact with the same people alot of the time.

chase

There was not anything frustrating

Matthew

Since it is a private school it is very exspensive and paying for school is difficult.

Bianca

The most frustrating thing about school is the food service.

William

The most frustrating thing about my school is the meal plan. I am not a fan of the food on campus, but I mean other than that there's nothing that is too frustrating.

Gabriela

The most frustrating thing about California Lutheran University is getting the right meal plan. At this school it can be difficulty to have your meal plan changed due to school regulations. Students need to go through a petition process with doctor notes and phone calls. It's better to be on "Munch Money" at this school rather than a meal plan.

laura

There is nothing frustrating about my school.

Courtney

No matter what time of day it is, you'll see some activity that the school is doing that is clearly a waste of money. The gardeners really don't have to trim the bushes everyday and security can easily walk around campus; it's small enough so Segways are unnecessary. It's frustrating when the tuition is so high to attend this school and instead of lowering the cost, they spend it on pointless work. Yes, it makes the campus look lovely but I don't think it's necessary to mow the lawn and renovate so often.

Alvina

Dorming is a bit frustrating. The way you chose your rooms is not a good process which they chose and when you have higher credits than certain people its frustrating to get a dorming complex that is not as good as others. Food is also kind of frustrating because your meal plans work in meals not just money so you can not use three "meals" within two hours or a certain time period.

Dorian

California Lutheran University is a GREAT school! I am very happy. My frustration was very minute. I was frustrated because the school did not state that there were two separate admission departments determined by the field of interest. I submitted my application to one admission office within the school but was told it should have been sent to the other. The school was very accommodating and sent the application to the other office for me. The admission process went smooth from there and the guidance counselors were very nice and easily accessible. I learned communication and patience are very important.

Desirae

The most fustrating thing about my school is the food point system. Students are only allowed to use one point per meal time each day. If you sleep in and miss breakfast, then too bad, you're not eating breakfast and wasted a point. Its probably the worst food system any college can have. We pay so much for room and board, we should be able to eat and use our points whenever we want.

Ashley

The food served at Cal Lutheran is awful junk food and extremely overpriced. They don't have anything that is health. Attending Cal Lu has increased my weight and cost me lots of money.

Sara

As an activist and advocate for social justice, I am often frustrated with the lack of student involvement with current political and social issues. While there are clubs and organizations that are politically active, the majority of student groups focus more on socializing. Likewise, I dislike when students place more emphasis on having fun and socializing than on their schoolwork. Sociability and enjoyment are important, but as students of a reputable university, these students need to academically and politically challenge themselves.

Wyatt

The most frustrating thing about my school is the amount of classes they have for certain subjects, i wasnt able to get the classes i wanted because they were all full and over booked.

Jordan

The most frustrating thing at my school is being able to manage your time. This is frusterating because each class assigns either homework or a paper every day. This adds up and before you know it you dont have enough time to complete all you work.

Judith

There are not a great deal of inexpensive activities for students in Thousand Oaks; the movie theatres charge $11 per ticket, and the only other thing to do is go to the mall or bookstore.

Shannon

I don't feel there was anything frustrating. I mean some teachers were more difficult but that was just a part of getting along and making it work with different trypes of people. It is not always going to be easy.

Ember

The most frustrating thing about this university is not being able to feel independent or treated like an adult. Due to the school being so small, the administration is able to control if students can live off campus and therefore enforces strict rules to those who do live on campus. I would also like to see the school concentrate on expanding and growing with each gereration of students. This means creating more academic buildings rather than building a swimming pool and new tennis courts. I would like to see higher quality classroom facilities rather than a big high quality gym.

Jarylin

The most frusturating thing about my school would be the organization of the dining room and the size. It is just very unstable and unorganized which makes it hard to be a common area for the student body.

Erika

The most frustrating thing about my school is that there are not many Hispanic Students. Comming from a school who was compose of {4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c}90 hispanic students to a place where Hispanics are a minority made it extremly difficult for me to feel welcomed. However, instead of running away from my frustration I belive I should set the example to other Hispanic students it is acceptable to step out of our comfort zones.

Jenny

The most frustrating thing about CLU is the rules for the meal plans and the cafeteria. If you miss a meal, you don't get to use that meal later. The 19 meal plan does not give students bonus points to use at the Centrum. Bonus points are like extra cash that you can use at the Centrum. Also, everything at the Centrum is kind of expensive, so you need the bonus points in order to get anything good.

Kathryn

the cost is a bit outrageous. you get a good education for a private school but 32,000 is a little steep for the school.

Alex

Ineffeciencies with Legislation

Jenny

How much it costs, its a private school.

Catherine

The most frustrating thing about my school is that it is too expensive. There are so many students that drop out not because they can't handle the work load, but because the tuition here is almost $40,000 and most students cannot afford that kind of price tag for a decent education. Other than that, I love my school.

Mike

Dry campus, the town is dead at nights.
