California State University-Fullerton Top Questions

What are the most popular student activities/groups?

T

The baseball team is the most popular team followed by the dance and cheer teams. Greek life is evident on campus, however I believe that even with 14 houses (Panhellenic and IFC) only 1{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the student body is Greek. Sports clubs governed by the SCICC are semi-popular and provide countless ways to meet new people. I was on the Equestrian Team which was an intramural club, I was also on Panhellenic Council where I was a recruitment counselor, as well as a Greek Week Co-Chair. I was actively involved in Alpha Chi Omega sorority where I was Risk Management on the executive board. Thinking back I though wow there wasn't much of a dating scene, but there actually was. There are not speed dating mixers (that I can think of or remember), but there are many opportunities to meet people in you classes which may share common interests. I met my first college friend in my english class, she was from New Jersey and we ended up being roommates 2 years later. My best friend I met in sorority and we were roommates one summer when we lived in the sorority house. Another good friend I met while being a recruitment counselor during sorority recruitment, she was in a different house. My best mate I met during a lab, I sat next to her mainly because she was wearing letters, and I knew we had at least one thing in common, from that semester on we took at least one class together every semester. People party as often as they want, it is college. There is a serious Thursday night scene in down town fullerton and on occasion the partying continues well into Sunday-funday. On campus on a Saturday night you can play pool or go bowling in the TSU, if you do choose to have a drink they offer beer and wine in the pub next to the bowling alley. Saturday night off campus you can go to Disneyland or Downtown Disney, catch a show at the house of blues, or the Verizon amphitheater, during the summer there is the OC fair, the beach is less than 30 minutes away you can go for a bonfire.

I'm a bookworm, so my most popular activity was studying. I found the library a great place to study. It is quiet and has may resources at hand for further exploration into topics that may interest a student.

Each college has its own breed of social life. I think the least active is the college of the arts. I find it fascinating as in its almost a college dedicated to those who spare no time for interaction for their own reasons. College of business, Humanities, and Sciences have very active environments with students studying/waiting/conversing there's even a religious fanatical soapbox speaker taking advantage of the lively community. During finals everyone is nice as they are all feeling the pain. They smile more in public and cry more in private.

Groups I have seen in my school are active sport clubs, ethnic oriented clubs, and major related clubs that help kick start to the job you want.

I believe the most popular student groups would be the sororities and fraternities on campus. Many students joined different sororities and fraternities in the past semester and while it looks like fun, I've never been highly interested. However, the Greek life is a great system and since many students have joined, they've gained plenty of friends!

There are more than two hundred and fifty clubs and organizations on campus covering nearly any topic imaginable, and if you don't find one you like you can start your own! I have been in involved in about half a dozen different clubs and organizations and have been both a general member and a club officer. On any given week there are many activities going on ranging from free movie nights, to bowling, to a dance for students in the resident halls, or even just free food. Whether you are aiming to go to all the parties or want to pass up on the party scenes, there will be something for you to do.

Dustin

I would say the most popular is frats and sors.

Kimberly

Of course, there are the jocks. We don't have a football team, which stinks. But students show alot of support for the championship baseball team we have, the soccer team, and the basketball games, which are all alot of fun! Then there are the frats and sororities, which do have some typical stereotypes but some are very different than you think. One should definitely check them out and see what they are really about, because for sororities it is most definitely not just partying. The dorms are like any others, lots of freshmen and everyone wants to make new friends so its a good environment. Of campus there is Birch Street which is like a outside mall with shops, restaurants, movies, and more! Also there is the Brea Mall just a few minutes away. And if you are over 21, there is downtown fullerton, which has alot of bars and nightlife!

Most of my friends I met either in housing or in my major. I am friends with all of the theater and dance majors, we're a pretty tight-knit group. I don't go to athletic events but I've been wanting to really badly, I just haven't had the time. I hear they're fun. We have a really good baseball team and girls volleyball team. Unfortunately we don't have a football team due to an incident involving illegal gambling several years back. Students in housing can be very social, but also introverted. Last year I barely talked to anyone in my building, but this year I'm friends with almost everyone in my building. I love it! If I'm up late on a week day, I'm almost always doing homework but sometimes its because I'm hanging out with friends from my building. People here party all the time. A large majority of it takes place off campus but some of it takes place in housing. Most people who party do it once a week, some party more than once, and some party even on weekdays because they have late classes. Traditions here at CSUF include the annual undie run, Greek rush, homecoming (basketball), and more. ASI, a student group, puts occasionally has movie nights, karaoke, provides a live band in the quad on Wednesday afternoons, and other fun events. Greek life is big. The theater productions here are AMAZING. There is downtown Fullerton not too far away that is a fun place to go on the weekend (if you're looking for sober fun or to drink at the bars if you're legal). There's restaurants, shops, and more. Also, Disneyland and Angel stadium are barely ten minutes away! The Brea Mall is just up the street as well.

Most popular at CSUF are definitely fraternities and sororities. They have many different events held on campus that always draw large crowds.

there are alot of and gorwing sports clubs on campus. greek life is a big part of CSF life. there are many academic clubs such as biology, chemistry art and music clubs. many of them go by greek names. I also heard of hip hop congress. they play music weekly to help reduce stress and make walking to class enjoyable. I am envolved with many of the clubs stated above. When i find the time i enjoy learning with the students of the clubs. at the dorms students leave their doors closed. although robberies are uncommon, new locks were installed on every door to prevent such mishaps. Basketball and baseball are the most commone events where hundreds of spectators watch each game. at the dorms we have guest speakers frequently, weekly movies. I meet my closest friends from the dorms, in class, or playing recreational sports. Each year there is murder mystery, spring concert and intramurals. People part every weekend, usually thursday friday and saturday nights. last weekend i stayed home to study for a test. there are many things students can do beside drinking such as going to a movie, reading a book, playing video games, attending sporting events, or having a potluck.
