What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Alyssa

If I could go back in time as a highschool senior I personally wouldnt change that much. I worked very hard my senior year and ended up at a great college. The only difference I would make would have been to enroll in more college credited courses to further my education in my college career. I think it would have made a very big difference in enhancing the knowledge of what a college course is like as well as having additional credits to go with you as you enter into a new school career. I wish I would have done that just so I could excel in my credits and be closer to graduating.

Well I honestly have to say that I made so many mistakes as a high school senior. Those mistakes have really had a major impact on my high school to college transition. Even though I wanted to further my education once out of high school I did not take the necessary initiative to look into what college was all about. I thought I would be able to take on whatever college had in stored for me. Oh boy was I sadly mistaken. This would have been probably the first piece of advice I would of given myself. Look up any requirements that needed to be met once in college to graduate. Secondly, I would have also advised myself to listen to advice my teachers provided me with. For example applying for as many scholarships as I could to pay for college. Lastly, getting as involved with the community and school as I could. Now a days employers want leaders not followers for job positions. I could of benefited from gaining leadership skills and potentially finding employment easier. Now I know some sayings are true like the one that’s says people learn from their mistakes I surely did.

My senior year of high school was one of the best experiences of my life, however, my first year of college is right behind that! Going back to senior year I prepared myself pretty well for this life changing occurrence. Since I am a pre-nursing student I knew my classes were going to be strenuous and my GPA was just that much more important. Therefore, I knew it was going to be time consuming and tough at times, learning advanced and rigid material. I finished my very first semester of 12 units with a 3.7 along with taking and passing a winter course making that 15 units. However, the one thing I did not prepare myself for is how independent I was going to have to be. I could no longer just ask my parents, I had to do it all on my own; which at first was hard to handle. Nevertheless, after a couple of weeks I became comfortable with my professors and campus. I continuously had questions but knew where to go and who to ask. Knowing what I do now, I would have told myself to get ready to do it all on your own!

Alyssa

I would tell myself to continue what you are doing. To be honest, I would not change a thing, except to not sleep mylife away. I attended church weekly, was involved in many clubs, excelled in sports, and had a great social group I networked amongst. My family is extremely close and very open wth one another and very supportive of all our endeavors. I was humble, yet proud of the way I carried myself and was a contributor to the community. Making the transition into college, I would not be as shy, but coming from a small naive town into a larger city and attending a university was eye opening.

Don't be a slacker! Take every opportunity, and apply for every scholarship you can. Its never too early to start. This does not mean that you cant have fun, just make sure you don't get behind in school. Take the best classes and don't think that the advances courses are not for you. As long as you manage your time properly you can do anything. You can get that A in Honors English and perform in the Choir Winter Performance. When you go to college its completely fine to be scared. Don't worry about seeming like a little kid when you don't understand about something. Ask any questions you need answered, that's why they're there, to help you. Just relax, but it doesn't hurt to be a little cautious. When you go to college wait a couple days or even a couple weeks before you take up any other kind of responsibilities, like a job. You want to get to know more about the city you live and how time consuming your studies can be. Above all else make smart choices. And use coupons, they're real money savers.

If I was able to turn back the hands of time in order to sit down and talk to myself as a high school senior and inform myself about what the future had in store for me, I wouldn't think twice about it, I would do it in a heartbeat, as I'm sure a lot of people would. I can confidently say that I am smarter now then I have ever been, so with the new knowledge I have uptained over the years it wouldn't be hard for me to "kick knowledge" as I say, to my youger self. I would start off by telling myself to continue to think positive no matter what happens in the future. Also, to keep a smile in my back pocket at all times because it will be needed throghout my existence on this planet. And last but not least, I would look into the eyes of my younger being and inform him in order to succeed in life one must spread love, knowledge and ambition like an infectious disease to those who lack. All in all, I want to thank you for your time and hope you enjoyed my essay.

Sonny

As a high school senior, you should do your best to enjoy reading, because you will be reading a lot, especially textbooks. There will be a lot more self-study than in high school, so developing great study habits is a good idea. Do not forget to manage your time wisely when it comes to homework, studying, and work. You may believe you have a lot of free time, but that free time can be used productively. Getting a job can be one of the most important things in life, not just for school. You may need a job to help pay for school and also gain experience for future jobs. A job will also expose you to the real world of being independent and a true adult. The more comfortable you are with this world, the better off you will be in your future dealings. Last of all, learn to shop online and find bargains, or just save money in general. Textbooks are quite expensive, so finding the best books for the best price will help you save money in the long run.

I would not emphasize enough that I can not slack off that first semester. The freedom of college had gotten to my head and I did so poorly that I am still greatly regretting it now. Years later I can honestly say I have learned my lesson, for I have resumed being the 3.9-4.0 student I know myself to be. I would tell myself to join some clubs and have some fun meeting people on campus. I can not say how many events I have missed out on because I did not reach out and see what my campus has to offer. I would convince myself that a business degree is not the way to go, though I did learn a few interesting things along the way. I am now a psychology major and will be able to work more directly with the population I wanted to work with after I attained my business degree. I am very happy with where I am currently in my life, but I still wonder where I could be if I had a chance to talk with my future “college self” before making that transition from high school to college.

Brandi

I would with out a doubt remind myself how quickly time flies by. In my younger years, I lived for the moment, which in some way is a good thing. Yet on the other hand, if you don't plan for the future with a sense of discipline, it is easy to falter. I would tell my 18 year old self, that although being 18 is an unforgettable time in one's life to be enjoyed, it is imperative to secure a future for yourself. Remebering to take courses seriously and becoming an integral part of the campus is key. Form relationships, make connections and go above and beyond in your studies. Do not simply try to pass your classes. Take time to reach your maximum potential. The personal and professional rewards will be priceless. It will be difficult due to a newly gained sense of freedom. There are no tardies, instructors do not call your parents when you miss class. Therefore, there is a a fine line between balancing your newly found independence and success. In spite of this, you are talented, unique and encompass all it take to be successful. You can and will do it!!

Diana

The advice I would give myself as a high school senior would be to never give up when everything seems impossible to do. Becoming a high school senior is difficult because it is the last chance you have to get good grades for the colleges to see. I would tell myself to do all my class work and homework in order to understand the class better. I would also tell myself to study a lot for the tests the teachers give me. Furthermore, I would say that whenever I get the chance to search and apply for scholarships, to take advantage of it because you will need the money for college to pay off depts. Colleges look at the classes you take and if you get the opportunity to get into a honor or higher class to take it so when in college you might not have to take it again. Being a high school senior might be a lot of fun but it can also make you have a lot of stress so manage the things you do and know that nothing is impossible to do if your determine to succeed.

Erin

After going through my first year of college my advice to my past self would be to just be open to everything. Dont be shy anymore. Let loose. Get to know people and make new friends. Dont rely on just a certain group of friends. Expand your horizons so you have a big group of friends. Academically I would say take even harder classes. More AP and college credit classes. Dont be afraid to push yourself. When choosing your college go somewhere new. Dont go where all of your friends are going. Going somewhere new will open up so many new opportunities along with forcing you to meet new people and make new friends. In short my advice would be to follow your heart. If your heart happens to go somewhere that your friends are ok, but dont just go because they are going. Experience life to the fullest with no regrets! Get out there and try different things and be smart about it.

jessica

The advice i would give myself would be to take as many advanced placement classes as i possibly can. This would help me tremendously in college. If i take the opportunity to take all the AP classes available, i will save money, time, and prevent myself from stressing out financially. Only some students qualify for financial aid, therefore students who don't, need to work. Being a full time student and working is not an easy thing to do. Sometimes our social life gets lost, due to lack of time. I believe if i would have taken all the AP classes offered to me in high school i would've saved myslef a whole semester in college. Also the waste of money to pay for classes that i could've taken in high school for free. I only took advantage of one AP class. If i could go back in time, i would proudly take the rest of the classes that were offered. Advanced placement classes are rigorous, but definitively worth taking.

Benjamin

If I could go back in time to when I was a High School senior I would give myself several pieces of advice. First, I would tell myself to be involved with more extra-curricular activities because they look good on resumes and scholarship apps. Secondly, I would tell myself to look harder for more scholarships. Thirdly, I would tell myself to make more lasting friendships, because I hardly know anyone that I knew in high school. And lastly, I would tell myself to be more diligent and to learn discipline, because it is needed in college. But overall, I would just encourage myself to do well in college.

Dylan

If I could go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior I would have some good advice for myself. First thing I would tell myself is that I need to get better grades, so i can receive a scholarship and not become in debt to attend college. College is a necessity in todays economy. I would tell myself to think beyond the high school i was attending to better my future. I was naive in thinking the real world was going to wait for me, and give me a "helping hand". I would also tell myself that i can succeed in life and school, all i need is some motivation. If i step up to the plate i can shape my own world; instead of being shaped by the world.

Geena

Learn how to study! Stop coasting through school and take advantage of the opportunities to face new challenges and learn how to conquer them. Enjoy your time with your friends and doing every extracurricular you can. There will not be as much time for that in college. Again, learn how to study. Learn how to read a textbook. Learn how to take notes. Learn how long it takes you to write a page. Learn time management. Learn how to work hard, then work harder because you can. Learn to save money. Learn to be opptomistic for there are rough times ahead. Do not worry so much about being perfect in school. Know you did your best and take pride in it.

Channary

If I were able to return to the past to talk to the immature me, I would tell myself that the procrastination of doing school work is only a factor, more like an obstacle that I have to get over. I would love to tell myself that the more I procrastinate the more I will fall beind and will not achieve my goals. I would also like to tell myself that PROCRASTINATION IS A HABIT THAT I HAVE TO BREAK; THAT PROCRASTINATION KILLS GPA'S. I would like to tell myself that once that bad habit of putting things off is broken it will make me feel much better, much more proud. I would also tell myself that I should be proud of going to school in hopes of acheiveing my dreams and that college is a great experience; none to be feared of.

Kristin

Two things I would tell myself going into college would be 1) Do not sweat the small things. Things will work out ok. 2) Do it for yourself. Throughout college, I have learned that there can be a million things going on at once, but it is up to me to decided what is more important. It could be my best friend's birthday and I have a research paper due the next day. Chances are, most of us would choose to be with our friend and save the paper for later. However, one thing that I've learned, other than procrastination is not the way to go, is true friends would understand that the paper needs to be finished before anything. I think the biggest struggle in life is trying to please everyone else, whether it be our parents or friends, but ultimately, we need to do what is best for us and what makes us happy. When you go to college and make the big decisions on your own, the accomplishments come out much greater and are much more special. College is the time to be selfish and do it for ourselves to see what we can be.

Walter

I would advice myself to move away from home and live the college experience to the fullest extent. At this point I cannot afford to transfer to another class due to units and expenses. I always wanted to experience something different, but I did not take advantage of the opportunities presented to me at the time. Now I am waiting to finish my undergraduate education to have a second go at me moving away.

Looking into the future i will finally realize all of the potential that i have in all academic aspects. The advice that i would give myself would be to put in forth the effort of 100{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} in every single assignment from the beginning of my college career. Some assignments my seem that they will not have any positive effects in your life but every single high grade will boost your confidence up giving you the self confidence in order to try any new adventure and helping you to achieve your goals in life. Giving 100{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} effort will build up new healthy habits of trying hard in everything that life throws at you, and believe me college will be filled with a tremendous amount of up and down situations that will sometimes question your toughness to confront them, just give your best effort in evry problem you encounter. With the knowledge that you will be acquiring and the self confidence of past success you will build a future in your college life that no one will be able to destroy. Remember Knowledge is the most powerful tool to bring down any adversity.

Explore all the fraternities and clubs the school has to offer. If the possibility and opportunity to start a national fraternity is at hand, then take that challenge head on. It will help you develop into a young man and force you to become an adult a young age. My social and communication skills developed each day. I was given the opportuntiy to travel to different states and meet different brothers of all ages. Joining the fraternity was my best decision I made in college, but you will have to explore that for youerself and allow yourself to learn as much as you can. Make sure you get involved with student goverenment and try and be a leader at all times. If you decide to join a fraternity and run for student goverenment, make sure you aim for the president position. You have to obtain all that is possible. People forget what you said to them, they forget what you told them, but they will never forget how you made them feel. When you put yourself in a position to be a leader you are given that wonderful opportunity to leave that impact on people and to leave a legacy.

Laura

I would tell myself that a college degree is a necessary tool to have. I know you will get acadmic sholarship for UAA that it is a once in a life time opportunity to get a free education. If you don't finish college the first time you will have to pay or get loans and apply for scholarships which you will have a hard time to win, because there are many students wanting and need funding. If I don't go to college and finish now, I have to wait for the right time, because I have a family to support. And that is the same reason why I am going back to college is to support my family. But at the same time, I don't know if I would change anything, because if I went to college the 1st time I wounldn't have the family I have now. Thank you for your considertation to get this opportunity to return to school. Laura

raelle

I would have a million things to say and to explain about transition from what I know sitting here today. I would tell myself that you only get one shot and you need to make sure that you do your best, so you have no regrets, or think you could have done it better. College was a great experience and I wouldn't have changed that decision if my life depended on it, it was worth every second. I learned so much in such a short time, I grew so much. I came across many influential teachers, classmates and mentors. I gained a positive expsosure to things that were not possible if I did not make that one life-changing decision. One major thing that I would have stressed is family is important, but before you start a family of your own, I would have instilled that it makes it much harder to reach your goals and dreams for that better life that you dreamed of in the first place, and now you have to worry thet future of someone else, and you need that education to give that to them.

Okera

The two things I would tell my high school senior self would be: 1. take more AP courses and 2. try not to go crazy freshman year. What most high school seniors don't realize is that they have a great advantage by being able to take AP courses during highschool because it is significanly less expensive than taking courses at a university or college. I myself took 3 AP courses my senior year, but did not even bother to study for the exams because I knew I was already accepted into a university. I didn't see the AP exams as an opportunity to save money and to earn college credit. Also, college obviously offers more freedom than high school and unfortunately for me, I got caught up in the freedom and forgot the real reason I was in college, to get an education and not to party. I can't go back in time and tell myself what I know now, but I can take this wisdom and apply it to future situations.

Justine

If I were to be able to go back in time and give advice to myself when I was a senior in high school, I would tell myself to not worry so much about how hard college is going to be. I would tell myself that it's not as hard as people make it out to be. All I need to do is go to every class and pay attention to the lectures and read the book and I will do very well on the exams and pass the class. I would reassure myself that going to college was the right choice to pick instead of joining the military because I was contemplating whether to be a soldier or to go to college. I would tell myself that college is better than high school because you have more freedom to choose the classes you want to take and it won't feel like a waste of time. I will also advise myself to live in the dorms for the first year of college instead of moving into an apartment because I wish I had the experience of living on campus. I would tell myself to be positive and happy.

Adam

Given the ability to go back in time to give advice to myself as a high school senior, the first and most important thing I would tell me is to practice better study habits. Starting in the university its a whole new world and your grade is usually based on a couple tests that are consisted of a compressed amount of criteria which are learned throughout the semester. For me that was the most difficult part coming from high school and not practicing the same habits that I now have. Other important advice I would like to have gave is, trying to form some kind of relationship with your professors. Making sure you visit each professor and discussing anything that could help you improve in that class. Who knows, you could really benefit if your grade is a percent or two away. These are two most important things I've learned so far that have helped me succeed more in my acedemics. Luckily I learned all this advice early, however this is to me the most important advice I would have told Adam the high school senior.

Carissa

If I could go back and talk to myself in high scool, I would tell myself that the longer you put off school the harder it will be when you go back. There is plenty of time for boys and playing around but if you do not take you education seriously you will find yourself in menial jobs and struggling to get by. I would tell myself to go to college right after high school while all the learning is still fresh in your mind because if you wait until you are thirty like me you will find the classes more difficult and you will have less time to work at a job you love. School is very important and you should never stop learning. Strive to learn something new everyday. I would also tell myself to remember that if you do not like the career path you have chose through your career you can always change it. There is never a limit to what you can learn or what you can do.

Choua

Assuming that I could go back in time and provide myself with advice as a high school senior, I would start by telling myself to look for scholarships and grants to apply for and find a mentor; someone who could help guide me and help me navigate my way through college. I would tell myself to learn how to network and stay in contact with other professionals, teachers, and peers because our futures may cross paths again. Learning how to manage my time and participate in many community and educational experiences will be impeccable to my learning experience, not only academically but also in all areas of my life. I will tell myself that college will be only as great as I am willing to make it. Lastly, I will tell myself that the next few years of college will be some of the best years, some of the worst years, and some of the most memorable years of my life; I will love it, I will hate it, but I will survive; so keep moving forward and thrive!

carolyn

Be open to all types of people at the college because you will make great friends here, no matter college level they are at. Try to have fun with the classes that you take and make learning fun. Do not get stressed if you do not do as well as you would have liked on one of your tests because you will have plenty of opportunities to make up for it. Study very hard and take your work seriously. Memorizing and cramming the information is something you should not do with college courses, especially if they are in your major because then you will not learn the material. Do not freak out over little problems because that will only make the bigger ones that much harder to handle. Be yourself and take advantage of classes that catch your interest because those classes will help make getting through school easier. Be prepared to dedicate a LOT of time to schoolwork and not seeing your family as much as you would like...after all, it is college and they know that you will have to spend a lot of time there as well as not having the money to go see them.

Yvonne

Stay focused and take every opportunity that you have to use the resources so freely given to you. If there is a dream in your heart go after that dream and put in all of the necessary hard work that it takes to stay focused on the goal. Whatever dream that you have is not going to go away, and there is no way to escape the work that it entails to accomplish that goal. Do not become a bitter old soul who lives your life through the lives of your children, developing envious desires and feelings towards the other individuals who have taken the time to pursue and put in the hard work for that dream. Know that it is never too late to start, and any effort in the process counts. The days go by and before you know it you will be at an age that could become discouraging at the realization of how much time was wasted if you do not put your foot down now focus. If you put in the hard work now, you future could be one that you could enjoy and feel like you are making a difference in this life.

Ileana

If I could go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior, I would give myself the advice to have a backup college plan just in case things don't work out the way you expected. I would have my educational goals set as to what courses I need to take as well as to have a major set. Another advice I would give myself would be to have tooken more AP courses in high school because they give you the advantage of not having to take that course in college.

Jorge

I would tell my self to take college serious. First, I would tell my self to figure out what it is I want to do with my life that way I could decide on a major. If I'm still undecided by the end of my senior year I would encourage my self to take some time off (maybe a year) before enrolling in college. This would give me time to clear my mind and provide me with a break from school. During this time I would acquire a job, read a lot, socialize, meet new people, do some traveling, and pick up on a musical instrument. This would allow me to figure out what I want to major in, get to know myself better by knowing other people, and experience life before going to college. I believe this time off from school would allow me begin college life with more emthusiasm and positive outlook, and most importantly with a fresh mind. Moreover, I would also advise my self to learn how to budget my money because college life is not the most glamorous and to make sure I have a stable palce to live in while in school.

Sara

If I could go back in time and give my high school self advice I would start with telling myself that my goals are attainable and not to give up. Sometimes life gets in the way of goals and slows down the progress, but that does not mean that progress stops or that you should stop trying. When life situations take control you are given an opportunity to rise above your own expectations. This also means that you must not settle for what is mearly tolerable, but you must continue in your progress until you have attained what you set out to do. Life can be hard sometimes and it can make staying on track difficult, but when the unexpected happens and things do not work out the way you had wanted, it simply means that you have to find a way work around the problem and continue on your path.

Bethany

If I could go back to my senior year of high school I would have given myself the following advise. I would have aquired my nursing assistant certification during my last year of high school as well as applied to various four year universities to their nursing program. I would have started the folling fall after my graduation on my four year degree. I would have told myself that this would be the most benificial decision that I could have possibly could have made.

Martinez

College life is very important, when you are in college you have the opportunity to learn a lot and to better understand life. When you are in college you need to have the ability to learn the materials very quickly, to do so you need to have a very good highschool base. If i had to go back to highschool i would be more laborious.

Brooke

The advice I would give myself if I had the chance to go back in high school would be , apply to scholarships and grants. During my time in high school I was worrited about the nice outfits and fitting in . Now that High School is over it doesnt matter and it never should have mattered in the first place. I would always get good grades but worrying what people thought was pathetic.

Alejandra

As I college student I now understand why my high school teachers would oftenly explaine to us how college was going to be a challenge. If I could go back in time and speak to myself as a high school senior i would give myself a numerous amount of advice. Preparing for college is not easy, but as soon as you set your mind to it it will all flow. Making sure you attend to class every day is very important, also take notes for everything. MAke sure you try your hardest, but most important to be lazzy don't wait until the last minute to do you tasks. Good luck in college.

Bee

The advice I would give myself if I was to go back in time would be to prioritize. Everything revolves around prioritizing. The transition to collge life is very simple if i have my academic and personal goals set. I need to understand that first comes my education then comes play, if possible.

Fred

Be open more to the experience of it all. Enjoy your time. Don't be afraid to speak up or ask for help.

Hallie

First, I would tell my highschool self to work harder in school! Take the SAT's and do well! Do not think going to work will help you out., college first! When you go to CSU Stanislaus on a tour do not think that you can not do it because you can. Start college early, join clubs, have fun, but keep your mind on school always :-).

Ashley

Being a college student now has given me the chance to learn more about what i might have missed in high school. To go back in time to being a high school senior i would tell my self to focus more, study harder, listen and particapate in all the school activites that were offered. High as a senior was hard because i didn't do the things thaat helped me apply to college's, get scolarships early enough. Seeing my self now and how i've learned to ask for help and being on my own has brought good things into my live. I will be a sophmore this coming summer and i will be transfering to a four year college in the fall.

Jessica

I would tell my self to never give up, always do my best. i would also let myself know that boys can wait. I would probably also apply to more colleges as well as maybe keep another major in consideration.

Jesse

focus! the most important part is studing and getting good grades everything else will fall into place. dont be overly concerned in hanging out with friends everyday because if you do you may onle be a school for a year. it is better to miss a couple of partys for there will always be more. keep up your high work ethic that gave you the oppertunity to attend college, stay positive and have faith in yourself and nothing will be hard to overcome. try to not load your schedule with classes that you will not be able to handle it is better to get a 3.0 take 12 units then to get a 2.5 taking 18 or 20 units. you have much life to live dont try to cram it all into one year spread it out. also watch the company that yo keep try and hang out with people that will better you and not make your situation worse one good friend is worth a thousand bad ones

Ashley

You will be faced with many trying endeavors and there will often be times when you don't believe that you can make it through. Working full time while going to school full time will wear you down mentally and physically but you can make it through. You were always taught to fight your way through tough times and to be strong. You are very ambitious and can reach your goals, and even though you will shed tears from the stress of 13 hour days between school and work you will grow as an individual if you stay stong. Do not take time off from school even if you are offered more money at your work because education is the only solution to prospering as a young, independent woman. Each day wake up and be thankful for the opprtunities you have been given. Even though you may doubt that you will be successful as a college student because you are the only one from your family that has attended college, just remember you get out of life what you put in. Stay dedicated to school, work hard, and believe anything is possible.

Marissa

Looking back at myself in high school, i would encourage myself to try much harder in school. Study more and take AP classes, it will pay off in college. I would tell myself to not give up and let life's circumstances get in my way of learning. I would make sure to set my priorities straight and that school should be the number one thing on my list. I would encourage myself to also become involved in extra curricular activities, like clubs or simply volunteering. Doing such things will help me a lot in college and when looking for internship oppurtunites. Most of all, i would encourage myself to enjoy my time in high school because college is not easy but to remember that it is worth it, in the end.

FRED

The only advice I will give to the high school senior, knowing that most of them don't take their studies seriously due to many fan activities going on. Movies, dancing, video games, watching TV to late midnight and a lot of them. This is the reason why most of the high school seniors have very low grade. They also enjoy having girl and boy friends instead of taking their studies more seriously. I will advice myself to take more serious on my books, because now a days we see so many scholarships going to students with better grades. I will work hard to achieve my goal. Learn to earn scholarship to University for my degree courses or work for my Masters . With this anywhere I go for work I have no problem for my future. It is good to take our studies more seriously, because the market seems to be very competing with one another, so if you have low grade it is difficult to get a better job. Youngs, forget about pleasure of this world now and learn hard to achieve what you want, and after that you have all things at your wish. Thanks for this opportunity.

If I could go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior I would definitely make sure my younger self undesrtood how important education is. The idea of getting a job right after high school ans working fulltime instead of focusing on school is something I would definitely try to get out of my mind, and go for the full college experience instead. Explain to myself that in the long run it would definetely be the best choice.

Be prepared. Study hard. Take your time and not overwhelm yourself. Ask for help when you need it. Don't be shy. Make study buddies. Do your homework as soon as possible.

Dear Me: Don't be afraid. There are people out there who want to help you succeed at whatever you do, so don't freak out about college. Take it one step at a time, and don't flip out. Get to know your classmates, since together you form a valuable think tank. Be open to new possibilities that you may not have considered before. Listen to your professors, and evaluate everything that you hear. Also, do your homework. Keeping up on the day-to-day work is invaluable when facing a test or exam on the same material. Know that whatever you do, not everyone will like it. You can't fool everyone all of the time, like Abraham Lincoln said. Be brave, and be comfortable in who you are. No one can take that away from you.

Knowing what I know now, I would advise the me in high school to be more socially involved and seek assistance from teachers. Having more peers allows one to be more aware of the world. I had to learn that the hard way. Coming to CSU Stanislaus, my peers and professors opened my eyes to see the diversity of the world and how diversity beautifies everything. Developing a relationship with professors is essential because they are the key to guiding you towards your career path. Other than being more socially involved with peers and professors, I wouldn't advise myself anything else. I believe that every mistake and success has lead me understand the worth of my accomplishments. I discovered my interests and career the hard way. But I wouldn't have it any other way. Finding out my interests and career goal makes it worth even more.

I would say get involved in student activites when you first get to college. This can include joining clubs, playing intramural sports, or joining a fraternity. Stay focused on your goals in college, study but at the same time enjoy your social life. Pick a career before you go into school and do your research so what you know what is necessary to complete the major.
