Carleton College Top Questions

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Rachael

In all honesty I knew most everything about Carleton College before I applied. Everyone always says that the amount of studying you are expected to do changes drastically from high school to college, but I figured since I knew this it wouldn't be a shock. I learned the hard way that Carleton really is as elite and rigorous as it appears to be. Not only that, but I was no longer at the top of my class. Even though I knew it would be a challenge, it was still a major adjustment to Carleton's academics.

nothing. life is best learned as it's lived. i wish i'd known (in hindsight) that i would want a higher gpa than i pulled off. i feel stupid about that, but it's a personal problem. i wish the advising was better but i think i was unusually unlucky, given my friends' experiences.

East coasters are different from Minnesotans. If you're a coastal kid like me, you might have to tone back the wit and sarcasm for the first few weeks while everyone gets used to each other. But folks here are REALLY friendly, so you'll quickly find a close group to hang with and with whom you can be yourself.

Julia

There is nothing I wish I had known.

Sam

That the winters are incredibly cold.
