Carleton College Top Questions

What kind of person should attend this school?

Alice

Someone who is serious about academics, but also interested in broadening themselves in many other ways. There is a spirit of collaboration over competition amongst the students, too. Overall we tend to be quirky, open-minded, and excited about learning.

Ebuka

I don't believe that there is an ideal student for any school, including Carleton. I have come to view college and the experiences that accompany it as being very different from school to school, person to person, and from year to year. Having said that, an individual who is open to the viewpoints of other races, religions, and socioeconomic backgrounds and who is also able to take advantage of both the exteracurricular and academic opportunities offered would be the best "kind" of person to attend Carleton.

Mikaela

Intelligent people who would rather experience Minnesota nice-ness than East Coast neuroticism, but still get an amazing liberal arts education should attend this school.

Andrew

A student at Carleton should be intelligent, open to diversity, and open to discussing topics with people of different backgrounds and opinions. A Carleton student should expect to learn something everywhere he/she goes (including the dining hall!).

David

Any student who want to have late-night chat sessions with friends and classmates on anything and everything. They'll need to be able to work hard but should be ready to play hard too. Carleton students should be ready to have a great time and make life long friends.

Hannah

Patient socially, disciplined academically. Someone who is already involved in a lot of activities that they can continue at the school, or is very willing to try new ones.

Sabrina

Very intelligent, loves learning, liberal, "quirky"

Jessica

I think the great thing about Carleton is that everyone fits here. No matter what type of person you are or what type of people you like to be around, there's always someone that shares your interests. And if you have a strange interest, I'm sure the kids here would be interested in learning more about it. The students here are awfully open-minded.

Hannah

Someone who is very academically motivated and willing to work hard, but is doing the work for him/herself, not out of a competitive spirit. Also, someone who has a strong sense of fun. Carleton is not uptight, and DVDfest or snowman building are more likely to make it into a conversation than grades.
