What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Bianca

The advice I will give myself is to really consider the location you will like to attend college because I was told Ohio was far and was cold. However I really did not pay attention because I thought it was going to be like my home town . I had realized that the weather is much colder than what I thought and it is something I am not use to. I also realized that my school is very far from home, it is an 8 hour drive from DC, which is very tiring. I eventually had to get use to it, if I am going to stay at CSU. I will also tell myself to continue what I am doing through high school because the grades I have earned through my first semester were outstanding. So I will be sure to tell myself to keep working hard because it does pay off later in the future. Finally I would have told myself to feel out more scholarships because college is very expensive and it is not good to take out a lot of loans because it will hunt you later on in life when you have to pay it all back.

If I could go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior I would talk to myself about time management, a study plan, how to go about getting books. My main problem entering college was time management. High school is very different from college because there is no one there to tell what to do and when to do it. Due to the fact I did not have my priorities in order I waisted alot of time and I always ended up craming for test or the get homework done. Another thing I would tell myself is to make a study plan. Having a study plan is very important in college because until like high school teachers college professors don't spoon feed their students. Most professors don't give homework to help students remember the material and many of the courses are based only on tests and lectures. The other things a would tell myself is how to find free text books. Sometimes texts book cost nearly two hundred dollars depending on the major. To save money freshmen can find some upperclassmen with the same major and buy them cheaper or for free.

if i could go back in time and talk to myself about college and give advice,i would tell myself that a college experience is the best thing that could ever happen to you. its where your future starts. meeting new people and experiencing new things gives you a chance to network and do what ever you like. college is what you make it. you dont have to stress yourself out about your classes or homework because there is always someone around who can lend you a helping hand and you can do the same. college is a growing and learning experience as well. high school can prepare you for whats real in the world, but once get into the real world you realize that nothing is a game. always have strength and believe in yourself. there are so many scholarships, financial aid, and a lot of everything that can help you get in to college. keeping your grades up in college is another way to earn money. college is not a stressful thing, its a fun learning and growing experience, full of people that are just like you, coming to have a good time and be happy.

I'm not your traditional college student. And by the time I became a senior in high school, I had a two year old child. Just knowing what I know now as an adult with children of my own, I would have told myself. "Self, if you are going to seek out and live the college life, you must first realize that you are now an adult with major adult responsibilities. You must always stay focused on your studies to enable you to graduate on time and allow you to excel in your studies, and always keep your options open to enable you to seek out all the support you may need be it your parents, the faculty of the university or college you are attending, friends, etc. to help your college life transition be a smooth one. And last but not least, remember to have fun! Your college years will be some of the best years of your life.

Anita

My advice to me would be to stay in school and finish. I would advise myself to keep going until all of my educational goals have been achieved. Less time would have been spent making the transition from being a young adult to becoming a seasoned adult. I do not regret making the life choices that were made for me and my family, however I would have advised myself to incorporate school in my plan a lot earlier versus now that I am near 40'ish. I see my plans as my destiny and the fact that I am able to return to school at this point in my life is a blessing.

Tiffany

If I could go back in time even for a few minutes I would tell myself to study harder and stay focused. I would put emphasis on how important it is to worry only about grades.

Daniel

If I could go back and talk to myself as a senoir, I would tell tell myself to work harder for more scholarships. To work harder because the standards for GPAs are higher in college than high school. I would also say to organize your time because college can actually be really easy as long as you master your time. I would also tell them that it's is more than just a GPA, that it is an experience for you learn what is best for which direction to go for your life.

Jelissa

The first thing that I would tell myself is to spend as much time studying as possible. Even though this is one of the things I've heard most in high school and college, I would have listened better to myself. I would also tell myself even though the school that you choose may not have all of the cool things you "think" a school shouold have choose that school because of the education that you can get. Just because you may look "lame" studying keep going, you can never study enough.

Anita

I would tell myself to get as much information about my school of choice and to make sure that what the school offers is sufficient based on my needs. I'd advise myself to take advantage of all the schoold has to offer (i.e tutoring, mentoring, etc.) and to engage with my academic advisor while completing my studies. College life does not have to be difficult if students take advantage of all of what the school offers. The transition from high school to college can be an experience which can be made successfully.

Let your children follow thier dreams...at the end of the day it is up to them. Look for a school that can help you in the future especially if you are not going to a grduate program. Even if you do not get accepted to a school of your choose then accept that school and see if they have what is offered that you may desire in studing and you never know that may be the school for you after all. do your process of elimanation and that help me figure out my school and please visit the school before attending because when you get there you do not want to regret it.

Justin

To find the right college that you want to go to, get as many scholarships as you can, and try to make the best out of your college years! ^_^

Chynele

I would say that parents should let their children choose the school they would like to attend, with their help. The student should choose their school for all the right reasons though, because if they don't, their college experience will not be as enjoyable as it should. The school should somewhat reflect the student's values, goals, and the environment should be very postive. They should also look into the campus life, because campus life plays a big role in the college experience. The important things to consider when choosing the right college include population, location, intended major availability, values, and activities. Also, have fun when making this decision, because college is the beginning of your life!

Brianna

Follow your first mind, never have regrets, but choose wisely.

The best advice that i could give to students is to make sure that you make your own choice! Never allow someone elses opinion to persuade your choice because you are the one who has to live with the outcome. My advice for parents is to allow your new college to grow up and trust that they will make the best choices for their success. College is the first step to becoming a responsibile adult and you want to see how they re-act to it, be supportive and non-judgemental. If everyone works together for a greater good and prepare (as a team!) for the obstacles that are bound to come, there is no doubt in my mind that you college experience will be a successful one.

Lakeitra

You should choose the school that best fits you and will offer u money to succeed. Make sure you can see yourself at that campus for awhile.

Aaron

Try and pick a school that makes u feel like you are at home, by this i mean it should be a warm home feeling so you can adjust to the surroundings and be focused on school.

Ashley

In my opinion, you should find a small college where the tuition is affordable. If you are very focused on your work and really care about your future, a small college is the way to go because at a small college, versus a big college, you can get one-on-one help from your professors and not have to go to the secretary when you need help. You should also find a college that offers a variety of resources for students to take advantage of as well.

Ronnie

Look into the student life ask the student how the the classes and campus life I say students because your mom or dad won't be attending it wit be you as a student see what the school can offer an do for you and also what u can bring to inprove the school college is what you make it no one will have the expirence you will have so make it a good one

As an undergraduate, I?ve experienced many things that have impacted my life both in and outside of the classroom throughout the year. I have seen how other students poor classroom habits have encroached on my learning within the classroom. I have had to deal with poor attendance of classes as well as classroom disruption. This in turn has slowed down the flow of our syllabus thus making me feel as if I am being deprived of valuable knowledge. This has matured me in a manner of being more productive with my study time as well as visiting the professors during office hours to learn the material. This is in determination to strive to do the best I can. I have learned to not let outside distractions stray me away from my academic goals.

Linda

Try not to stress

The advice that i would give parents and students about finding the right college is make the choice on what your heart feel. Dont go to the college that your parents want you to go . Do it for yourself its your future.

Alicia

The advice that I would give to parents is for them not to make the final decision of which school your child chooses because your child will be the one that has to attend the college and not you. The advice I will give to students is not to choose a school just because all your friends and/or mate are attending that college. Choose your college wisely. As for both parents and students choose a college that is affordable for your exspenses otherwise you will be in debt for a very long time. Choose a college that will benefit in you in the future. Make the most of college experience otherwise you regret it later on. Do not let others influence you. Have fun and enjoy the college life but remember that you attending school for an education and not for fun.

Lezhon

Well i mean when i was looking for the school to go to i picked it based in the enviornment, what i mean about that is what to i learn better in a class wise and school wise.

Andrea

Make sure to stay in touch with the school officials. GO TO CLASS! Get Involved. Meet with your advisor regularly. Find a mentor with a good GPA.

Candace

I would tell them to take there time and just read. Because you never know what god can bless you with .

Alea

When choosing the right college you should first look and see if they offer your major/amd or minor. Another major thing to consider when choosing the right school is the cost. Sometimes students get enough financial aid to cover the year, while other students pay out of pocket. After you have considered those two things you should start considering the college size, student to teacher ratio, and the security measures taking place upon the campus.

TANISHA

THE ADVICE I WOULD LIKE TO GIVE IS TO TRY TO PICK A COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY IN-STATE. YOU WOULD SAVE YOUR PARENTS A LITTLE BIT MORE MONEY. BUT IF YOU CHOOSE TO GO TO A COLLEGE THAT IS OUT OF STATE, JUST TRY TO HAVE A JOB SO YOU CAN MAKE SOME MONEY TO HELP YOUR PARENTS OUT. BECAUSE IT IS REALLY HARD FOR ME RIGHT, PLUS MY MOM IS A SINGLE MOTHER OF A 19 YEAR OLD, THAT IS DYING TO GO BACK TO SCHOOL.

Crystal

Make sure your financial aid is good before you go. It could bea head ache. Always aim high. Its okay to be rejected but that let's you know that there's something better out there for you. Be involved on campus. looks great on your resume' and study hard. Trust me, it pays off at the end.

Jocelyn

Make sure that the school has your intended major, organized, and reliable when business needs to be taken care of.

Chantequa

I would say to students and parents in search of finding the right college to, first visit the college to feel the atmosphere and environment in which you/ or your child will be staying. Also check the academically statistics, which inquire what most GPA's students have at this college. Lastly I would say make sure the college is wel worth the money paid.

charlene

I believe that it is very important on how a student chooses their college because it can effect their whole college career! the reason i say this is because if a student is not clear about the decisions they are making with colleges choice it may cause them to have to change schools and be put behind! Lastly I believe the student should have all the say in where their going to school because they are the ones that have to deal with it for 4 years, but it doesnt hurt to have a parents opinion!
