What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
If I could go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior, I would tell myself to modify my work habits. Throughout high school, I always worked hard and did my best in every class I took. I was never really taught, however, that there is more to knowledge than just the memorization of it. Now that I am in college, I look to use information that I have attained in my classes and put it to use, make it practical. As a high school student, the majority of information learned was learned through memorization and repetition. As a college student, I have learned that memorized information is very well and good, but it doesn't mean much if you can't use it. College has pushed me to use my prior knowledge as well as my new knowledge to really assess problems and make informed decisions on issues.
Also, I would stress the importance of reading textbooks. In high school, my teachers never really stressed reading the textbook. I have found that textbooks are extremely valuable resources that help reinforce class lecture points.

Do not get me wrong I really like the school, but there are a few things I wish I would have known before I decided to attend. I wish I knew that going to a community college it would be harder to make friends. It is harder to make friends because you are not staying on campus. Yes, you are there a lot for classes, but you have several different people in all your classes. If you only see them twice a week its hard to bond.

The only student that should not attend Chesapeake College, is a student who is not serious in their determination to better themselves. These students who consistently come to class unprepared, or miss deadilines, who have no serious motivation about changing their current situation need not apply at Chesapeake College.

Chesapeake College is best known for preparing non-traditional students who are looking to return to school with the tools and knowledge of how to succeed. Chesapeake is also a place where teenagers fresh out of high school feel comfortable enough to test the waters of the river of never ending knowledge. Providing the opportunity to find out exactly what you want to do with the rest of your life or figuring out if one day you may want to go on to a four year institution, are priceless experiences and attending Chesapeake College is the best way to start.

The most frustrating thing about my school is it is in the middle of no where. You have to drive an hour away to get to the mall and a half an hour to get to the closet McDonalds. It's a two year community college and there are only about 2,622 students.

I'm a non-traditional student, so my frame of reference is different from most of those I attend college with. Sadly, I would describe majority of my classmates as disappointing. The largest percentage of those I've met are unmotivated, lacking ambition, and seem to take their education for granted. Essentially, they seem to be "coasting."

The worst thing about my college is that sometimes I don't feel challenged...."mediocrity" and "average" seem to be too widely accepted. Students who openly boast about not caring or only giving half-hearted effort still seem to receive above average grades.

Dedicated people that wish to better themselves and enrich their lives should attend ANY college. The experience of college should take a person out of their comfort zone and force them to rethink things in a constructive, positive way. Too many people focus on the social aspects of college and don't receive the education that they are paying for.

Chesapeake offers a variety of programs accompanied by awesome teachers who care about their students. At Chesapeake College, the teachers are concerned about every student's success, and they will do everything they can to help them. I can honestly say that I would not be as successful, and would not have gotten as involved with my school if my professors were not as encouraging as they are. At Chesapeake, everyone becomes family.

I honestly don' t find anything unique about Chesapeake college, when I was in high school I wasn't serious about going to school. Thats how I ended up at chesapeake.

The best thing about my school would be the small classes. This is a positive attribute to have at a college because you get to know your professors better, and they can learn about you and your learning style. In a larger classroom, you do not get as much one-on-one attention as you do in a class with less students.
