Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

James

I went to a boarding school, and Colby was more of the same. If you loved high school, look no further. If you want to challenge yourself, run screaming from this place.

Justin

Colby is one of the most unique liberal arts colleges in my opinion because it combines all of the assets of a liberal arts education with the raw nature and character of Maine. The campus is immaculate and the most picturesque of all the maine schools, seriously visit Bates and Bowdoin and draw your own conclusion. The perkins arboretum on campus feels like you are in the mountains of western maine when in reality you are a minute from your dorm. Its the safest place I have ever been and I would go back in a heartbeat if I could. Students who dislike colby are usually a very vocal minority, who would be unhappy no matter where they are. Talk to the 99{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the students who love the school and you will never hear more positive remarks from students at any other academic institution. Colby is a small school with an international presence. I have run into alums in the most random places worldwide and while I'm talking to them it feels like we are both back enjoying the good life on Mayflower hill for a few minutes. I love this school.

colby is a great school, but, as is the case with every college, it is not for everyone.

Emma

Though most of the schools I looked at were pretty similar, the thing that set Colby apart, and still does, is the way in which students care tremendously about both school work, extracurriculars, and friends, and push themselves hard to do thier best, but there is not a competitive or cutthroat environment. Everyone is willing to work together to accomplish more, or to help eachother out. GPAs, class rank, and other measures of success aren't important to most people aside from as a way to make sure they they are holding up to thier own standards.

Elizabeth

The location in a beautiful spot in Maine close to nature and a big town is very unique and has a little bit of something for everyone.

Caroline

Colby is small enough that I know a lot of people, but at the same time I continue to meet new friends two years into my college career. Since virtually everyone lives on campus and Waterville isn't the most exciting town, everyone is on campus on the weekends. This creates a really great sense of community and makes the social life really fun.

Blake

goood place to be

In conclusion I would say Colby is not the best of environments for everyone. If you already have a well established network of family and friends and they can help you out in life then a Colby education is great. It gives you the brandname education which is of soo much value in american society these days. Quoting Good Will Hunting and saying that this is true for much of the Ivy league educations and also of the so called mini ivies "You wasted $150,000 on an education you coulda got for a buck fifty in late charges at the public library."

Justin

Colby really is a great place. I was looking for a small liberal arts school and I found one. Not everything here is perfect, clearly. Our administration is tough and the weather is sometimes isolating but there are many things amazing about going to school in Maine. Im not sure where else I could wake up, look out my window over Johnson pond, see a moose tracking in two feet of fresh powder and then go skiing because Sugarloaf is only an hour away. There are a lot of great opportunities here if you take advantage of them, and you really can. I got a new course to be offered here next year just by talking to a department head, and I put together a dialogue house proposal with the help of one of my professors. Things are changing here, and for the good, we have a lot of stock in our school and are willing to make a difference.

Andy

A lot of Colbians have a whiny sense of entitlement, and some are snobby asses, but a lot of Colbians are also really awesome people, and I like almost everyone I've spent more than ten or twenty minutes with.

Kelsey

i love colby. i hate colby. it's an interesting dichotomy.

April

The Echo, our school paper, is an embarrassment. There are good writers at Colby - the just don't happen to write for the Echo.

Anuj

I love Colby. I have plenty to say, but the above is a summary. I would also love to help promote Colby in any way.

Jake

Colby is a very unique place. Some people just plain don't find themselves comfortable here for whatever reason, whether it be because of the party culture, the kinds of people here, or what have you. But the people who do end up staying here love it to death and will defend it always. Also, the girls are not as bad looking as people may say they are. They are certainly better looking than the ones at Bates or Bowdoin. Also, this year's Ms. Maine went here.
