College of Marin offers a fantastic learning environment. Unlike large universities where teaching assistants often lead classes, you get to know your professors directly. This creates a strong sense of community and allows professors to provide personalized attention, which is a huge benefit for students.

I have loved my experience at the College of Marin. The staff are incredible, and I am glad to be a part of on campus groups, as well as a student athlete at one time. The only flaw with College of Marin lies in its location, as the affluent Marin County is a difficult place for a struggling college student. As a commuter student, the distance also provides a further personal barrier. However, as far as a community college goes, it is difficult to find one better than College of Marin. Go Mariners!

Overall I think College of Marin is a great school. As a student going into the community college scene, I was extremely intimidated. At College of Marin, there was help everywhere I turned. Not only is the staff extremely kind but the students are as well. The classes are similar to that of an average high school class size, which allows you to develop a real relationship with your professor. To my knowledge, there is not much of a party scene though you can find your group of people with time. I would not say the school is extremely diverse but there are a handful of different culture amongst campus. College of Marin pushes engaging in good physical and mental health practices by hosting events. For example, they will host yoga on the grass which is rather peaceful in my opinion. The school is also located in a nice area which in turn gives it great funding. As a result, the facilities are newer and extremely clean. In regards to location, you are only blocks away from a great shopping center and you are walking distance from a high end market with great cooked meals. The campus is really pretty. Marin in general is very green and filled with nature. College of Marin is extremely similar, meaning, there are a lot of pretty areas on campus. Off campus there are many view spots and hikes nearby as well, if you are a nature lover! All in all, I would recommend going to College of Marin. Everyone is very welcoming and helpful. To put it into perspective, I would have no problem sending my future kids to this school.

My overall opinion of College of Marin is that it's a great campus with really friendly staff and teachers. I'm a freshman at College of Marin and my first day was a pretty good experience. There were people who were able to help me find my way around the campus and answered all of my questions whenever I was really confused.My teachers were able to help me with any questions I had with either homework or any other assignment. My counselor at College of Marin helped me figure out what I should take during my first semester according to the major I've chosen. Even when I was questioning to drop a class because I was really struggling in the material, my counselor was able to help me figure out the situation. Furthermore the counselors are very passionate about helping students who are confused or struggling with what they want to pursue. I'm very glad I have my counselor to help me with anything that concerns me even if it's academic or personal. Personally I feel that the counselors are very helpful with finding ways to guide students to whatever they want to major in and allowing them to explore outside their major.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

    Go to community college first. The notion that College of Marin is bad and only losers who cannot afford a 4 year university and who could not get scholarships go there but it isn't true. You can make new friends if you put yourself out there and the staff is amazing when working with you on financial aid as well as the admissions process. The professors are willing to work with you and really spend time with you moreso than in high school and they are easy to talk to. They don't think they are above you in any way and they work to relate to you and they are very good at it. Many of the professors keep things lively and it really is a great way to make it through college with a smile on your face.

    Open-minded, but sucks lunch money out of poor college students who can no longer afford textbooks.

  4. What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

    I wish I would of known that going to a community college makes it very difficult to transfer into a four year college in two years. This statement stands true even if you find yourself in a dangerous and/or instable living situation that you cannot get out of unless you sign up for millions of scholarships in efforts to of getting money making it possible to over-ride your parent's dependancy status over you in hope to transfer to a 4-year with a dormatory.

  5. What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?

    The professors are absolutely amazing and are willing to work with you. It is surprising how great the teachers are because the notion given to community colleges is that the teachers are awful but here they definitely are not.

    College of Marin is fortunate to have some great teachers. Marin is a desirable place to live so many university professors have retired here and continue to teach through COM. Besides having a great faculty it also has a beautiful campus, great resources, and great students of all ages.

  7. What's unique about your campus?

    From what I have experienced so far at the College of Marin, there has not been anything about the classes or the campus I found to be frustrating. I have, however, had the misfortune of experiencing a counseling error regarding what classes I need to take to transfer to the university of my choice. Because of it, I will mostly likely have to attend the College of Marin for one year longer than I originally anticipated.

  8. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

    I consider the worst thing to be that college of marin doesn't have student housing. I think if students lived on campus there would be a more cohesive sense of community within the student body.

All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA. Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
