Out of all the time I have spent attending College of the Canyons I can come away with tons of advice but, the main piece of advice that stands above the rest is to make sure you know exactly what classes you need so when registration comes along you can quickly add your classes because chances are the spots you need to be in will be filled by the following day.

Before I came to this school, I wish I had known about the benefits associated with Associated Student Government. Students involved in Associated Student Government are able to get discounts on books, vote on issues affecting the school, and make friends in the process. In addition, joining ASG looks good on resumes and helps the general welfare of the school by providing information on cigarettes, heart disease, etc. Furthermore, helping others is encouraged through organizations such as invisible children which attends to the children in Uganda. Through ASG, students will have experiences that develop their character in a positive way.

People always say to talk to a counselor and make a class schedule, but they never mention that it's still important to make sure the counselor's suggestions are the ones best for you. I ended up taking a two semester science class that covered the requirements, but wasn't the best option for me as a pre-med biology major. Counselors are a great first step, but it's still important to double check their decisions.

I wish I would have known more about transferring, my options, the unit requirements, I wasn't fully aware of them when I started.
