What's the Greek scene like?

Samuel

The Greek scene on campus is huge. If you are not an athlete and you want to have a social life, you basically have to be in a fraternity or sorority. I personally think people take the Greek scene far too seriously, and it is one of my least favorite aspects of William and Mary. It limits many peoples' social groups and it to me it doesn't seem necessary. If you are interested in going Greek however, most frats don't haze too much. That's good.

The Greek scene at William and Mary does have a presence, but it does not dominate all social aspects of the college. During rush week, it will seem like everyone is rushing because so many of the girls will be talking about it. I am not Greek, but I have plenty of friends who are involved in Greek life, and there has never been a divide between us. A few or the sororities have houses that are located close to the campus. The fraternities are housed in the Units, which are on-campus. Their weekend parties are typically opened to all students with an ID. In addition they hold events that are open to the student body (Greek open mic night, dance parties, campus golf, etc.) If you are looking for the Greek scene, you can find it easily at William and Mary, but if you do not want it to define your college experience, then you can be perfectly happy without it as well.

About 25{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of students are involved in Greek life. If you are not in Greek life you are not segregated from people who are in a fraternity or sorority though. It is not hardcore like a lot of other schools, but you do meet some really awesome people through it.
