Most of the colleges in Idaho are located around the greater Boise area. Schools range from four year colleges to vocational schools. Let’s look at some NCES stats about this state:

 

  • Idaho is home to 10 four year colleges. 6 of which offer graduate level degrees.
  • There are 27 two year schools. Only 5 are public community colleges.
  • Over the past 5 years, Idaho colleges have the third highest growth rate in students at 22%. In 2017, 591,626 students were enrolled in college.
  • In total, there were 19,357 degrees awarded for the 2016 school year. The majority of which were bachelor degrees.

College Scorecard tells us alums from Brigham Young University earn the highest average salary. 10 years after starting school, the average alum from BYU earns $42,700. Meanwhile, the 2017 average income earned in Idaho is $25,471. You do the math!

 

Idaho Tuition Programs

 

Idaho offers several tuition programs and options for residents of the state. The first is tuition lock from Idaho State University. For any ISU program, the school ensures that base tuition rates for undergraduate Idaho students remain the same for four continuous academic years. The state also has a generous transfer program for students. Generally any transfer credits into a public college are accepted as long as the credits were earned from a school that is accredited by the USDE and CHEA.

 

Idaho is also a member of the Western Undergraduate Exchange. This program allows students to pursue degrees in one of 15 Western states at an in state tuition rate. According to WICHE, Idaho students have saved over $191 million out of state tuition since 1988. In 2018 that number was $16.8 million! Participating states include Oregon and  Montana.
