What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Brittany

If I were could talk to myself as a high school senior, I would tell myself to continue with an early graduation. I would stress making all A's if possible because it's better for scholarships. Take your SAT and ACT while you're still in high school so that you can be admitted into a university. Even though your job is only part time, save as much as possible. Lastly, please remember to apply for scholarships before you graduate!

Studying will be a big part of life now. Create good habits now when it will be easier and learn to balance school work and a social life. College can be really fun, but it can also be a pain if you don't do things when they need to get done. Don't procrastinate, in fact that's one of the worst things to do. Do school work when it is given and do it in a timely manner. Going out with friends may seem like a good idea at the time, but not when school work and projects are piling up. Work hard and never give up, no matter what. Some situations may seem hard at times, but things will always work out in the end.

If I could go back in time to talk with my former self I would tell her to finish high school and go to college. While you may not know what to do exaclty now, in a few years programs in forensic science will be available, while right now it is unheard of and not offered. Start taking as many science courses as you can to get a good solid base started which will make the transfer into a forensic program easier. Going this route will be a lot better and will help you accomplish your goal alot faster then trying to get this type of degree done later on in life having to start from square one. Yes your high school may have been a joke but take advatage of what you can get out of it before you have to pay for everything. It costs a lot more.

If i could go back in time and talk to myself in high school as a senior i would have tell myself not to be so lazy. Dont take the easy classes but to take some challanging class. I would also have to say learn good study habbits, because you do have to do alot of studing in college. At my high school you had a choice to attend some college classes for high school and college credit, i would tell my self to get into those college classes and get them all done. I would also tell myself to go and get a job to start saving up for school,it doesnt matter what kind of job just somthing to start off . I would tell myself to TAKE THE ACT NOW,don't wait , you know the information now in 1 year ,you will have forgotten everything, and would be a big stress in your life, to have to re-learn every. I believe that all of my advice to myself comes down to being lazy, just dont be lazy.

Living by your grandparent's rules are worth free room and board. Their support is a blessing and they love you more than you can imagine. The free food tastes great and will always beat ramen. Working nights to pay for school tuition and books is a smart choice for you. It fits your schedule and natural rhythm. Starting college the fall after graduation is also an excellent idea. A college degree is what you always wanted. Trials and tribulations will come. If you do not have one you will regret it. Do not stop even if you think it is for the right reasons. It takes a long time to get back to school. College is easier when you are 20 years old and single than when you are 40 years old and married with five children. Follow your dreams of helping children. Register as soon as you can, meet with an advisor, set up a plan and follow it. Your family loves you and you have all of the support you need to be successful.

I have serveral pieces of advice to give my past self. First, to borrow a phrase from Douglas Adams: Don't panic. There is no reason to work yourself into a giant bundle of nerves over this new experience, and in the end it will do nothing but cause you to lose sleep and hurt your performance in class. Second, just because you assume you have a good memory does not mean you do not need to note in class. There is no earthly way you can remember each event over the course of one-hundred years in America's history, and noting is essential to success. Third, mathematics are important. Just because you assume you want to be a writer someday does not mean math is unimportant. It not only lets you pass the college entrance test, but allows you to calculate your expected GPA, and balance a checkbook when you exit college. Fourth, and one of the most important: Do no be afraid to have fun. This is will be the best time of your life, and stressing over grades and assignments will not only bring down your performance, but your fun as well. Good luck, past-self!

Go to College!!! There is nothing more worth wild in life than to experience college life and earn a career to make your future. Keep focused on your final goals in life not what your doing for the moment. The choices you make right now will determine your financial future.

I would tell myself that College wasn't as hard as I thought it would be in the first place. College is totally different from high school, you can create your own schedule and you are paying for your education, so it's in your best interest to try your hardest. I would also add that College was more liberating than high school with the open schedules; I could pick all night classes and sleep in or work during the day. I would also remind myself to not get caught up in the partying crowd, because the only place they will end up is at the bar or in jail. I would tell myself to focus on making one good friend in each class, that way I could call/email them to study or just have a close friend to share the semester with, who knows, it might end up being a lifelong friend. I would remind myself not to get emotional and wrapped up in boys, and to remember to stick to a plan for education and my future and it will work itself out. Most importantly, I would remind myself that everything takes time and nobody is perfect.

If I were able go back in time and talk to myself I would definitely convince myself to do more research. I would research everything from the price of education to the quality of the education including student activities. I would also advise myself to ask as many questions as I can when I attend the school tour. I had a chance to visit my school twice and both times I wasn't really "wild" about it the way I was when they first contacted me. I decided to attend anyway and waisted about $28,000 ($9,500 in loans not including the interest). After my first semester went by I was miserable. Everything the school said that they had to offer was only half true. When school came to stop I had decided to attend a community college back home. Going to a community college was the best decision I had made that concerned my education. Even though it didn't have all the activities a university would have it was still great. I figured out that I wanted to pursue a Pharmacy career. If I could do it all over again I would definitely do more research.

Take your education very seriously; your grades are important. It may not seem important now, but it is. College will not always be fun, but remember to have fun when you can. Stick with it and you will reap the rewards of your hard work. Take advantage of the ability to devote your time to school. If you don't stick with college now, later on you will have to juggle a job, housework, classes, and homework. Most of all, remember that college isn't easy, but things that are worthwhile never are. You can do anything!

If I could go back and talk to myself as a high school senior I would make many recommendations. First off, just because a good amount of students at your high school are able to afford a four year university, this does not mean you have to attend one. Angie, check out all of your options, use your resources, just because others have an idea of what they want to do or where they want to go, doesn't mean they came to the conclusion on their own behalf. Don't be afraid to ask for help! Talk with your parents about what might be best for you. Realize that you don't have to be embarrassed when it may take you longer to finish your education, if you allow yourself to get embarrassed you won't continue with your journey. Consider a community college as a REAL option, not a go between to be able to say you're in school every couple of semesters. If you use it as a "go between" and not take it seriously then you will end up where "future Angie is today." Nine years later finally figuring out, that it can be done!

In the past four months, I have often said that exact phrase, if only I knew then what I know now! This past fall I returned to college to follow my childhood dream. I am currently attending classes at Collin College, in Plano, Texas. I was laid off for a year with no luck finding a new job. I've spent fifteen years as a restaurant manager and wasnt very happy with my life. I just completed my first semester back to school. I made the 'President's List' with a 4.0 GPA. It was the first time I had ever accomplished something so spectacular! I am convinced that I made the right decision. If I could go back in time, I only have one thing to say to myself, "Do whatever you have to do to finish your edcation, Sandy!

I want to give all high-school students an advice before going into college. first, do not worry about money, fill out your fafsa if necesary and that will help you get a load of you back. Second, when you are trying to decide where to study, do not go by "what my friends are going to go to" it is very important that you concentrate on yourself. dont worry about other friends and where they are going to school. distractions can become your worst enemy. Third, give yourself enought time for school. do not take extra credits if you think you are going to be pressured. remember that exam week can become really stressfull. we all deal with jobs, friends, family, sports, homeworks and some extra things but you have to remember that without school you wont go ant farther. so give it the importance that it dicerves. And last, organize yourself, try to make the correct decitions. it is alwayse good to have a ggod relationship with your teachers that way you feel more confident with then and they will help you with anything you need, dont be a extranger.

If I could go back and talk to myself during my senior year, I would tell myself that I need to volunteer more and I would also tell myself that if I work just a little harder, my grades would have improved dramatically. I feel that volunteering helps your chances of getting a scholarship, and I spent my entire high school career doing theatre after school and working. It was difficult to balance work, school and theatre in one day. I would also tell myself that grades are a big deal, and even though I made decent grades, with just a little more effort, I could have done amazingly.

Lori

I would tell myself to do exactly the same thing I have already done. I would take my core classes each semester until I figured out what I wanted to major in, and in the meantime, I would try to find jobs that reflect my own desires and strengths, in order to find an idea of which careers I might want to pursue. I would focus on my priorities, make good grades, and not let anyone tell me that I could not be successful in whatever career I might choose. I would tell myself that anything is possible if I do the work and effort into something that I am passionate about.

College opens people up to all kinds of new things, but at some point they need to evaluate what is good and what is bad. Luckily it only took me a semester to start to grow up. Though I know I was young when I got a good work ethic; I would have liked the knowledge in high school. Since I have been on my own I have realized how expensive everything is, and though I consider myself financially savvy, I can not imagine paying all the bills my mom had to pay throughout my life. Knowing how much everything is makes me want to work hard and study even harder, because I don't only want to make money now, but in the future. If I could go back and tell my high school self anything I would say stop being so lazy and study, you have great potential, and be nicer to your mom! High school was only a year ago for me, but those life lessons are so valuable that the sooner they are learned the better.

The advice I would give myself would be , First, work on scholarships well before your senior year. The longer you put if off, the harder it will be to finish. Second, DO NOT SLACK OFF YOUR SENIOR YEAR! It is a very good idea to try really hard and take the classes that you know will be challenging. This will give you a good head start for college. Last, but not least, visit colleges and get a good idea of what you want to major in. College visits can be very fun and knowledgeable. Be smart when deciding where to go and make sure to get the most out of the college of your choice.

Stephanie

To be honest, I think I did really well in my high school decisions. I do think I could have took a little more time out of my week to do more research on scholarships. I now realize that money doesn't grow on trees. As for my family, they really don't help out much with my spending costs as they used to when I lived with them. So, that makes me want to apply myself and time to apply for more scholarships. Also, I think I could have lowered my standards from looking at universities and just looked for cheap community colleges. They do the exact same thing as a University, except cost a lot cheaper. I had my mind set to the University of Texas at Austin, but when it came down to it with no financial aid, I realized that community college was my best choice. I also would have pushed myself to learn how to study. I didn't really have to study much in high school because I understood in class. You really have to learn how to juggle your studying, with your social life and your job. After that, it's a breeze.

If I could go back in time, I should have applied for scholarships and studied harder. I went straight from High School to this training school and got my medical assistant certification. I wish I started college right away or applied for nursing school. But life is full of suprises, so I went back to school in 2006 part time. I believe it would have been much easier to stay in college right after I graduated .

Leslie

As a high school senior I was convinced college wasn't for me and that I did not have the intelligence to do well in my classes. I would tell myself that showing up and getting to know my professors will help me the do well in class. Do not procrastinate is a very important message that I unfortunately had to learn the hard way. I would say even though I may not like a professor I can still learn in the class by being open to every thing that goes on and using the materials needed for the class. Some more important advice would be to check for my books on amazon since the book store can be overpriced. Also always carry scantrons especially final exam week. The most important advice would be to have confidence in myself and not to give up even if I feel so overwhelmed by all the work I sometimes have.

Enope

To focus and keep you dreams and goals alive.

Chelsea

You might know what you want to do but circumstances and opinions change. So be positive and open to new and different things.

I would definitely advise myself to partake in more activities and more honor classes to boost my GPA. Also i would encourage myself to do more research on careers and majors so I would be more prepared for my journey. I would have definitely worked to improve my SAT and ACT scores. Overall, I do not regret the decisions i made in high school because I did graduate with a 3.41, I did participate in softball and volunteered. The only thing I am currently struggling with that i wish i had a head start on is the financial aspect of college. If i knew it would cost this much because financial aid do not always cover everything, I would have gotten a job to start saving.

Lori

I am 28 years old and have just now decided that I want to be a music therapist. I would tell myself to go to college right out of high school and not wait so long to get started. However, I would also tell myself it's okay not to decide on a major right away, if I'm not ready, but to go ahead and get some of my basic core classes out of the way. I would also tell myself that I should definitely consider taking some elective courses in areas that I am not sure I am interested in, because I might discover that I like some things I never thought I would like, simply because I was exposed to them and they really grabbed my attention. I never thought I would like classical music, but after one semester of music literature, I am now hooked on some of the greatest composers. It's ok to try new things, and meeting people my age who like those things to really makes me feel like I fit in. I would tell myself the world is full of many interesting people and to embrace those differences with passion.

Deric

I would definitley say that i wasnt prepared for college at all mentally. So i would have to make sure my work study ethic should definitley be on point.

Alaina

If I could go back in time and give myself advice it would be to not stress out so much. As long as I'm serious about my education nothing can stop my success. Just keep working hard and apply for more scholarships!

danyelle

the number one thing i would tell my self looking back to my senior year would be to get right into college when you graduate! i know its not something graduets want to hear but its really true. i regret taking the summer off just to get way from school for a wail. i mean high school wasnt hard and i made really good grades so more that soon wouldnt of killed me. its better to stay with it and not take breaks because it makes you not want to go back and also can keep you from getting it done in the "normal" 2 years you could. i spent a hole summer doing nothing when i could of easly gotten two classes out of the way and been a little head.
