I know my classmates on a technical level only. It is beneficial to hear their opinions during discussion posts and get to know each classmate by the style in which they present their discussions. Without ever meeting these people you can determine who is confrontational, who is pushy, who is respectful of others ideas, who can lead as a team and build on others posts and ideas. It is not hard to feel their passion as you read their work. This allows for a general idea of each person and their personality while not "judging a book by its cover."
