Colorado State University-Fort Collins Top Questions

Describe the students at your school.

Riley

The school is not as dicerse as I had expected, many of the students I am around and see are caucasian. There is a lot of diversity in fashion though at CSU which I find nice because it seems to be a place where students can express themselves without any ridicule.

Hannah

Nobody would feel out of place here at CSU. There are support groups and organizations for every single activity, religious, socioeconomic and racial group here. Most students wear jeans and casual clothes to class, and are very laid back. Most of the people here are caucasian, and are very active in the school whether it be in sports, music, sororities, fraternities, religious groups and much more.

Christine

I think there are all different types of students at CSU and everyone fits in. There are all sorts of different etnicities and its awesome to have such a diverse campus.

Tom

The student body is a friendly and accepting!

Molly

There are many different kinds of people that attend CSU. People are genually very nice at the school, many different cultures connect with other cultures which is awesome to see. That is just another reason I really like attending CSU.

Julie

Colorado State is primarily caucasian but I have not witnessed any prejudice. Most people are open and understanding about other people's backgrounds. That is what I appreciate most about this school. Most people are very casual with thier attire when attending class. Students at Colorado State are usually from somewhere in Colorado. They are typically middle class to upper-middle class and I would say somewhere in the middle politically. Business students are more inclined to talk about future earnings but overall that is not a common topic.

Brynn

CSU has the nicest group of students I've ever encountered.

Andy

I do not feel like there is a lot of racism on the CSU campus. I think people are very open about race, politics, and religion. People are more interested in hearing other views than trying to convert others to their thinking. Most CSU students are from Colordao but I have met a fair number of people who are from another state and even some from different countries. Students I feel are more left wing rather than right. There are a lot of liberals at CSU.

Mason

All campuses have some sort of diversity amongst their student body. CSU is no different. I feel that the student body is predominately white. The great thing at CSU is that there are hundreds of organizations that allow students of every race, ethnicity, religion, etc. to be a part of an organization with students who are just like them. In the world of fashion, I don't think even the Colorado weather can stop girls from trying to make a statement. One day it will be hot and sunny, and the girls will be wearing short skirts, Uggs boots and skimpy tops. The next day it will be snowing and freezing cold, but for some reason the girls seem to wear the exact same clothes. It's an interesting dynamic, how girls will sacrifice so much to look good. Girls don't understand the power and attractiveness of actually leaving something to the imagination. From my perspective the guys are more casual and wear more moderately priced clothing. I can't say that about the Rec Center, as guys wear shirts that they have cut up so short that they might as well not be wearing one.

Cody

The student body refuses to up fees for a struggling athletic department. Its only one fee of 15 and no one will pay. Freaking cheap

Bevan

At CSU there isn't a lot of racial diveristy, but it has been something that the college is working on. But as for soci-economic and social groups, there is much more integration here than I experienced in high school. Most people make a group of friends in the dorms of individuals who come from all walks of life. Here I've made friends with people I never would've expected myself to be friends with. Students are very open to diversity and are willing to talk to people even if they don't look like they'll have much in common.

Matt

I love Colorado state because you can walk down the street and see friendly faces everywhere, everyone knows everyone. There are no clicks and no grouping. The clubs can make any minority feel welcome. Most of the students that i know at Colorado state live in Colorado. They are poor bu what college student isnt, but as ive observed, their parents and families are rather wealthy.

Kim

I have found a good religious group that I am in. There seems to be a group for every type of person here. I dont know if any student would feel out of place. There are not many groups geared toward non traditional students. People are casual when dressing for class. The average wear jeans and a hoodie or a t shirt. The tables would include hippies, athletes, average joes, and fake looking girls. A lot of CSU students are form in state. Middle class seems to be prevalent on this campus. People dont talk about their earnings yet, I am still new here.

Kristen

For being only an hour from the Wyoming border, CSU definitely has a white majority of students. I think students who grew up in an urban environment would struggle shifting to the laid back atmosphere of Ft. Collins. The going out scene is so casual (as well as the jeans and T shirt favorites at school) that a lot of people from the city would find odd. Though most of our students are Caucasian, there is a strong Muslim and, or Middle Eastern presence at CSU.

Sam

There are mostly rich kids here at CSU because there are alot of frats and soroities and CSU keeps jacking the price up. It makes it hard for the not so rich kids to fit in.

Ashley

There are a lot of groups at CSU, i would be suprised if you didn't find more than a few you liked. There isn't a whole lot of diversity at CSU but it is welcomed, there isn't any racial discrimination that i have seen here. There are many different types of students at CSU I have seen girls in designer clothes next to a kid in his pj's. Most kids dress in jeans and a t/sweat shirt for class. Though there is a huge instate population i have met many people from around the US, and never heard any negative things from students. There are many politically active students, but the majority of the campus in center to right politically.

Mario

My experiences with all the different types of groups on campus has been quite normal really, people don't usually get harassed for being different in any way. For the most part everyone here is very tolerant of others' differences and most even celebrate these differences through interactions with each other. Most students are from Colorado but there are also many that aren't from the state, some are from Iowa, Maryland, Florida, and even Saudi Arabia.

Chris

This is something I don't know too much about, this is my first semester and I really haven't learned too much about the student body as a whole. But so far I do like the diversity of the students and the things I see and hear around campus and out on the town.

Emily

This is an interesting topic because I am currently taking Ethnicity in the Media. I wasn't really aware of the racial stereotypes and segregations that exist in this school, but I have definitely become more aware since taking this class. Now that I pay more attention, I notice how students of color are oftne with students of color and white students are often with all other white students. I have also heard many different perspectives of students who feel very excluded and out of place. In particular the LGBT group came to talk to our class and really brought to our attention the discrimmination that is directed towards them.

Lane

I think there is a variety of students at CSU that no student should feel out of place. Most students I see wear sweats to class, except in some of my required courses for fashion design students dress very nice to class, they try to look their best. I think everyone interacts with everyone, especially during some smaller classes like my speech class, we were required to know everyones name and get to know them which helps to meet more people as well.

Thomas

When I walk to class every student seems to be the same, but with a great diversity at the same time. I dont look at race or ethicity when I look at students at CSU, because everyone is equal. Most students at CSU seem to have a good financial background.

Michelle

Very white campus. Not necessarily racist, but very few minorities. Some very rich, snobby people, lots of down to earth chill kids. Pretty liberal campus, despite the rest of fort collins being conservative.

Toby

Although there is some diversity among CSU students, the student body is heavily dominanted by caucasians. A great diversity in the student body would be more benifical for all the students

Natalie

I really don't pay much attention to the student body

Kate

When going to class, what people wear is usually split. There are always people dressed to impress and others in sweats. There are many people from out of state and many from instate, I have met about half and half.

Shawn

Most CSU students seem to be from Colorado. There seem to be a lot of people who knew eachother before they came to school and it is kinda hard to make new friends.

Sierra

I haven't really interacted with any of these kinds of groups. I think African American people may feel a little out of place just because CSU has a very white concentrated population.

Dawson

CSU is the only school that I have attended that did not have a problem with feeling out of place. Everyone on campus is really friendly and nobody really judges you. Everyone can express their own individual self. Everyone has their own different style and personality and it is great meeting new people with different perspectives.

Allison

CSU is very accepting of all types of people. there is very little apparent judgement. i feel free to be myself and wear what i want to. i think it needs to be a little more racially diverse though.

Amy

The out reach groups are very persistent. I see a divesity but not as much as other schools. I would want more in all the clubs.

Meg

Our student body is not as diverse as many other areas around the country, but I feel as though we're all very accepting of each others cultures and beliefs. Except for the guys who yell about religion on the plaza.

Stacey

The other groups on campus are available however, their voice is often ignored in the hustle of college life.

Sam

The student body is diverse and outspoken. Sometimes it's a good thing, sometimes it's not. People think we can just live in simple harmony with each other, but the reality is is that mankind has not got along since the beginning of time, so it's not going to happen now.

Kristyn

I am an RA on campus so I have seen the best and the worst of the student population. There are many oportunites to get involved. There are many diversity centerd organizations which help to raise awareness on campus. CSU itself is not a very diverse place, it would be nice to have a more diverse population so that we could learn from each others differences.

Allison

the student body is really accepting of everybody. i like that everyone is different and no one cares what you look like or what you're wearing. i feel like campus could be more racially diverse though.

Evan

I see an enormous amount of students who are fully supported by their parents, which means I see an enormous amount of people who lack responsibility and motivation. This results in a cell-phone addicted, mouth-open, and drag-your-heels student population. I love walking in the middle of campus during a gorgeous day but when you see one thousand students that day without more than 10 seconds of eye contact you feel normal, insignificant, and like a zombie. You have become just like everyone else out there. Now if you can only picture all of these people with their mouths open! Just close your mouth, and maybe things will change for the positive. The 10 seconds of eye contact is just accidental. "Whoops, I caught eyes with someone." I am not saying that I am a hagrid student. I am an athletic and "cute" guy who loves to people watch. We need more pride in this University, and not just at the football games.

Theresa

It is really diverse and I feel everyone makes CSU what it is!

Steph

The campus does not have too much of a diverse group of students. Sadly the campus is primarily white. Most of the students that attend this school are from colorado.

Dylan

I like the fact that everyone dresses casual to school and no-one talks about what you're wearing you have the freedom to wear and act the way you want.

Taylor

emily

i don't really have any experiences regarding racial or relgious situations on campus, i try to avoid them. i don't think there are any students that would feel out of place here, there's a pretty broad range. most students dress casually and comfortably to class. different types of students don't generally seem to interact that much. most students are from colorado.

Max

CSU is a lot more diverse than my high school was, but a lot of people who came here from out of state of even out of town say that the school is predominantly Caucasian. It's hard to say what typical groups there are at CSU because there are so many unique individuals. There definitely is a group of athletes that are recognizable in the dining halls. Overall mostly people here are much more independent and worry less about what other people are doing of wearing.

Sasha

I interact with many different types of people and it is really good i like the diversity. Most of the students are from Colorado like me and i like the local aspect of the campus.

Kelly

I am not involved with many groups here on campus. I am part of a sorority which I love and think everyone should experience if they feel it is right for them! So far I feel that the student body here is for the most part very friendly and welcoming. We have a large number of international students and they seem to fit right in. If you look confused, there is always someone there to help you! I feel right at home here!

Katy

There are a lot larger diversity of people but it's cool. I really don't think any student would feel out of place at CSU everyone always can make friends here. Students usually wear extremely casual clothes to class. Yes different student types interact. Most people are from Colorado. Most people are upper class and middle class at CSU. Yes students are politically aware and active. They are more left. Students don't really talk about how much they will earn one day.

Brooke

The student body, though not physically diverse, is very perspectively open and willing to embrace diversity. The students welcome new ideas with a tabula rasa. They are also very laid back and easy going, making it much more fun to interact with them.

Lauren

I dont' think students feel out of place. I think CSU is open to all races, religions, and other groups. I think most CSU students are from Colorado.

Meg

I believe that everyone interacts. Most CSU students are from colorado due to instate tuition.

Lauren

I like the student body at CSU. Theres just enough diversity to make it feel like its not completely white dominated.

Morgan

There are some extream religious groups, I respect them for trying but still they go to far sometimes. A lot of them a really nice, but its almost a fake nice. CSU is predominantly white but there are other races represented. Most students wear jeans a tee shirt and a sweat shirt to class, its pretty laied back, every once in a while you have a student in Pj's and then you have your students who wake up really early and put effort into what they wear. Students are from everywhere, and I think every financial background is represented, but most are mid-class. It seems like "how much you will earn one day" falls behind how you will effect the world.
