What are the most popular student activities/groups?

Ashley

SNOWRIDERS is an awesome club, its for kids who like to ski and board in CO. I have had a positive social experience and transition at CSU. Athletics are pretty popular and there is always something to do. There is also a variety of people who go out ad party and those who don't. Anyone can find a group of people they like to hang with or go out with.

Mario

CSU has a lot of groups and clubs to offer, but it seems like the majority of students get involved in some sort of intra-mural sports team. CSU has some great events such as the Homecoming bonfire or the Ram Welcome carnival, that they do every year. Saturday nights can be fun without the use of alcohol, if you taket the 5 minute drive (15-20 minutes walking) trip to Old Town, there is much you can do, such as bowling, seeing live music, getting gelato with a special someone, or just dancing at a club.

Chris

The social life is a good one, the town has much to offer and I like going out and finding the right crowd. I dont know about the dorms I never lived there. But the social life in the town and out and about is a very attractive one.

Emily

I just recently joined the sorority Pi Beta Phi. So far I really enjoy many parts of it, however there are some aspects that take some getting used to. One is being stereotyped as a "typical soroity girl". I am a very independent person and have always stayed true to who I am and not been afraid to be myself. Because of this it has been hard to be generalized into one big category. It has been a great way to get involved however. Everything from intramurals to social events to volunteering etc....I really have felt more involved with CSU sonce joining.

Lane

I would say football, even though they had a rough year they still recieve the most funding, and are the most well known team on campus. When I was in the dorms I kept my door open all the time so people from my hall could come and go as they wanted. I met my closets friends, well I still have a lot from high school and also through school activites and classes. If I am awake at 2am on Tuesday I am studying for a big test Wednesday. People party every night they dont care if they have school the next day.

Michelle

I love the social life at CSU. I love participating in the football games, basketball games, the Homecoming 5k race and anything that involves sports and having school spirit. I am currently involved in the Student Alumni Connection Leadership Council and with only being in it for not even a semester, it is a wonderful opportunity to get involved more with the school itself and previous Alumni. I have made many new friends throughout this experience and many new "networking" skills that will help out in the future for jobs and just talking with people you don't know. I use to leave my door open all the time in the dorms, but everyone is more cautious now because we have had people going around and stealing money and valuables. So only when myself or my roommate is in the room we will leave our door open. The dating scene is endless. It seems like you meet so many new people they want to get to know you or vice-versa. It seems like some people party alot but thats not the only thing to do at CSU. There are many great activites on and off campus you can be involved in or just go do it on your own time. Fraternities/ sororities are not all what they sound to be. It is great to meet people that way, but if its not your scene, you don't get looked down upon for not being in one. I know from experience!

Alison

Living in the dorms is a great experience that i think everyone should experience. You get to meet so many new people from all over. Most people on my floor do leave their doors open. Being an athlete I really enjoy going out and seeing other sports play. Party life is pretty good here and conviently close to campus.

Thomas

My dorm is very social and it is very active. CSU athletics could use some work. We seem to have the talent, but we cant win. My roommate and I get along very well.

Brian

I love the social life at CSU, everybody seems to know everybody and people are generally really laid back. Fort Collins also provides an array of things to do, like walking around in Old Town, Hiking at Horsetooth. There are also a lot of opportunities to participate in activities, there is something for everybody.

Natalie

CSU has a lot of activities that you can get involved in and I like that a lot. No matter what there is always something that you can get involved in!

Kate

Dormroom doors are usually open when people aren't doing anything, closed during study hours. Sporting events aren't that popular, most of our teams are pretty bad. 2am on Tuesday I am either watching a movie or playing a game with some friends. Traditions, the lighting of the "A," Homecoming football game... Fraternities and sororities are there if you want them but not everyone is involved. Last weekend I went up to vail, went to a toga party, played ultimite frisbee and watched a movie.

Shawn

I play water polo for CSU. I hang out with the girls on my team a lot.

Sierra

Sororities and Frats are definitely something to get into at CSU. Students do leave their doors open in the residence halls because it gives everyone a chance to socialize and enhance their halls community. Athletics are a pretty popular thing to get involved in; even if that includes just going outside and kicking a ball around. Intramural sports are a lot of fun for students who wants to play competitively without being on an actual CSU recognized team.

Melissa

Get to know the people around you in the dorms. you are living with them for 6 months so you might as well make the best of it.

Dawson

Social life at CSU is awesome! Living in the dorms is a lot of fun because everyone on my floor is super cool. Everyone leaves their door open and we seem to do everything together; go out on weekends, study, eat breakfast, lunch and dinner, etc. My closest friends live on my floor and we are all living together next year, which is going to be great.

Allison

I like the social life up here. most people in the dorms are really friendly. there is always something to do.

Amy

I feel that a lot of the organizations are awesome. The members get what they put in. I am in the Hui O Hawaii club, which is an amazing group that does so much.

Meg

We have an amazing Old Town Square!! We are also close to Horsetooth and have easy access to camping, rafting and hiking.

Stacey

The most popular organizations on campus are usually oriented with community service because the individual has the opportunity to join a group that does not require extensive activity after the even.

Sam

Intramural sports is a good program. It's great competing in organized sports. The facilities could be improved upon, though.

Kristyn

Skiing and snowboarding is very popular at CSU. Many students that come to CSU from out of state come for the outdoor recreation opportunities. I wish more students took better advantage of the opportunites available on campus. Recently there was a movie shown "The Devil Came on Horseback" about the genecide occuring in the Sudan. It was advertised very well and it was a free event, but still the theater was not full. On weekends there are parks to go to for outdoor activities, horsetooth reservoir nearby for hiking, great nightlife, and a fun community.

Allison

Love the social life here

Evan

Socializing at the bars is the best way to meet people. With the huge bar scene in Old Town any person can choose a location that will yield a mate for them. If not go check out the Whole Foods! That place is a marriage market at its best! I love drinking with pals and new faces but if I catch wind of a cute girl saying anything about fishing I drop everything. I will marry you. It is actually fairly hard to find a girlfriend in this town who aren't gonna cheat and who you can get along with at the slightest that are not taken. But that just gets to the point of a beaten dead horse.

Theresa

I love the social life! Expecially in the dorms because there is always something to be doing!

Steph

Intramural sports teams are very popular. Most halls in dorms leave there room doors open. It really depends on the hall however. Old town is very popular on the weekends to go to restaurants and such.

Dylan

I live in the dorms and yes i do leave my door open when i'm in the room, it's a friendly way of living. During most weekends we go out for dinner then go to a movie or go bowling. Other days we go to Denver or Boulder which is also a change.

Taylor

There is a lot to do in the dorms that doesn't involve alchol or drugs.

emily

some students in the dorms leave their doors open, but not all of them. football games are pretty popular, but that's about it, that's all i have attended really, except for the ethnic fair that was in the student center in the fall. my closest friend is my roommate. on tuesdays at 2am, if i'm still awake, i'm studying.

Max

I have some friends involved in GREEK life, which they seem to enjoy. I've been involved with a couple intramural sports teams. There are also several outdoors and skiing/snowboarding groups. Everybody is really social and outgoing, especially early in the fall semester. It's easy to make new friends and potential dates if you make an effort. Partying depends on who you decide to hang out with. Some people party a lot, some people never do. It just depends on the person, and I feel people who don't party have just as many friends as those who do. Athletic events are always enjoyable especially when the Rams win.

Jesse

There is always something going on at the campus. I really like this because it mean that a student never can be board.

Sasha

Snowriders is a great club and is really popular. The dating scene is really good there are so many fish in the sea and they are all high quality.

Kelly

I feel as though a large chunk of people are involved in Greek life but that also could be because I am in one and tend to hang out with people who are in them due to common interests. I am currently a freshman living in the dorms and I would say for the most part you really become close with your floormates. Everyone is really eager to make friends and they keep their doors open in hopes people will stop by to say hello or hang out. There are tons of fun events going on ALL THE TIME. There are so many I can't even keep track of them. They cover all outings/games/movies nights....you name the idea for people to mingle, CSU has done it!

Alex

I think the sports, both intermural and club sports, are the most popular organizations on campus. When i was a freshman 95{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of my hall left their doors open. Dating is steady, some people need to balls up a little more and ask already - while others need to get the hint that you are SO not interested. I met my closest friends through classes and work. I think kids party a consistant amount here, but for the most stuff the hardcore partying happens thursday- saturday, leaving sunday for recovery and homework. I work off campus, and go to parks and hangout with friends.

Katy

I am going to get invlolved and join the Fashion Club next year. I didn't have time for it this year. The most popular organizations are the sports teams such as the football, basketball and volleyball teams. Students in my dorm leave their doors open usually. Athletic events are extremely important. Guest speakers and theater are really only popular if you get extra credit for going or you are in that department. I met my closest friends by living with them on the floor and having classes with them. If I am awake I am either sick or drinking. Traditions include sports the CSU CU football game and the sorority and fraternity rushing. People party quite a bit but probably most students only twice a week. Frats and Sororities are some what important but only to the people in them really. Last weekend I had a movie night with friends and one night went out to party. On a Saturday night you can watch a movie, go to a movie, go out to dinner go to Old Town or just hang out with your friends. Off campus I usually go shopping, go home or go to work.

Samantha

Im involved in the greek community. It makes the school not seem so big because I can go anywhere and see someone i know or someone who is atleast greek. Its an amazing feeling to be apart of something so wonderful

Brooke

CSU makes sure you know about activities on campus, and that when you go to them they will be worth while. I meet a lot of people through activities and just opening my door in my hall and interacting with people there.

Lauren

Most students in the dorms leave their doors open and the more the doors are left open, the easier it is to communicate and meet people. The dating scene is tought because no one really talks in class to people they don't know, you pretty much stick with people who are your friends. I think people party a lot but I don't. There is a lot of stuff you can do that doesn't involve drinking such as go out to eat, go to the movies, walk down oldtown, go to fort fun, go dancing, go to horsetooth.

Lauren

I'm on the all girl cheer team so that definitely takes up a lot of my time but its fun. My dormhall is also probably the best one on campus. Everyone gets along with everyone else.

Morgan

There is always something to do. Residence halls are always putting on programs about many different things. Some examlpes are Creation vs Evolution, Little Shop of Physics, Balence Your Life, and tons of social things. Alot of students leave there doors open, and are willing to meet new people, it depends on how the community is developed in the begining. Athletic events are great, but sadly not well attended right now, but that will change with wins. CSU brings great speakers to campus, just recently we had Matt Roloff from Little People Big World come. The dating scene is the same as it would be anywhere. My closest friends at CSU I met my freshmen year from the dorms, we lived on the same hall. There is always something to do even at 2 AM on a tuesday, there will be people awake out and about. People party alot on weekends and some during the week. Frats and sororities are out there but they arent a HUGE deal. Saturday night you can go bowling, so smoke hookah, go to the 3 dollar theater, there are tons of things to do that dont involve drinking.

Meg

Athletic events are only popular to friends of the students in the event, or students that just want to get drunk and go yell. Tailgating is the only reason people go to football games. Free t-shirts are the only reason people go to basketball games. Free food and extra credit are the only reasons people go to see guest speakers. And no one I know of goes to theater productions.

tater

THere are intermeural sports teams and a ton of clubs to join. CSU has lots of events they put on too like free movies n free food n music.

Kendall

There are so many activites that they provide on campus that you really never have to leave to be entertained. People are very open and everyone that I have met has been extremly nice.

Austin

I go to our reccenter every day to play basketball, lift weights, and sometimes swim. Also I have been involved in dance classes and intramural sports. By the way Westfall is a great dorm, because my whole hall usually seems to have most of its doors open and we all know each other and are great friends. With so many people around you and so many events to attend it is hard to ever get bored on this campus.

Rose

I'm from out of state and I thought making friends would be hard. Quite the opposite actually. I've made more than I could ever imagine and I wouldn't trade any of them for the world. Most of my friends were made through the dorms. CSU requires student to live in them their freshman year and I am so thankful for that. The first month or two I would lock myself in my room and not socialize with anyone. However, once I started keeping my door open I found myself meeting new people, making new friends, and loving life. CSU has a huge mix of people. No matter who you are you will be sure to find multiple others with the same interests and attitudes. From the greeks to the rock climbers, CSU has them all. Some people drink, some don't. Some love snow, some don't. Some love sports, some don't. Any type of person can be found at CSU.

Julie

Everyone's a snowboarder here. And you will probably be one too. The mountains attract many students here. I think the snowboarders are kinda crazy because you will go up on the weekend at like 5 in the morning and spend the whole day there. Its a three hour ride to any good mountain and gas is expensive, so is the food, and the pass to even go. When you get back you will be exhausted from the cramped ride there and back and won't have any energy to study at all. Its not worth it to me but it is to others. The dorms are a great place to meet a lot of fun people. I understand why CSU stresses it so much because you won't realize it till later but so many of the people you meet there can help you.

mike

intramurals, parties, women

Lisa

The social life at CSU is awesome. My close friends are people that I have known from high school and middle school, but have become better friends since entering college. I love all the different activites that CSU offers. Some of my friends are involved in jobs: nanny, call-a-ram. Others are into church groups. But my roommate and I are both in a sorority. I think that the sorority has really made CSU a home for me. Although I'm not overly active in my Chapter, I do feel like it has opened many doors for me. I have been able to participate in community service, dances, parties, sleep overs, study groups, and much more. I actually have a boyfriend, but many of my friends have met boys through my sorority sisters or through me introducing them to some of my guy friends. I also believe that living in the dorms has been a really great experience. Living in certain dorms is really nice. Corbett is the best dorm, all the halls are fun and open and friendly. My dorm is def more quiet and reserved. Its nice to live and relax, but not to "hang out".

jenna

I've been having so much fun. The dorm scene is great. Think doors open a lot, 3 am IHOP runs, movie marathons, and all kinds of other stuff. I do find it hard to study in my dorm: when I hear someone else having fun I usually go and join them. Athletic events are the most popular things here, but the lectures CSU provides are really interesting too. I don't think I've spent any one weekend doing the same thing as another weekend. It might be because you deal with so many different types of people on a daily basis. I study with my lab partners in the afternoon, hang out with my hallmates in the evening, maybe join a random lecture or seminar at some point, or go out partying with some sorority girl. Last weekend I went to an Ethiopian restaurant for a date, went shoe shopping, studied for a chemistry test, and played a game of sand volleyball. I have too much fun with my friends to ever resort to alcohol. I've never been drunk once.

Shelby

Too much partying in the dorms.

Tanya

Intermurals are a completely awesome way to stay in shape and have fun. I have done both basketball and indoor volleyball now. I also took basketball as a class and made a ton of friends, stayed in shape all semester (for a grade!) and had a blast. There seems to be every group you ever wished to be in at CSU. Poetry club, skiriders, chemistry club, etc. If I was awake on a Tuesday at 2 am I would be talking to my roommate, chatting to someone down the hall online, studying, or playing video games. Dorm room doors are always open and hall mates are always going in and out of rooms. Best way to make friends! Or open your door. My closest friends were actually from my classes, although I still have one or two from the dorms.
