Colorado State University-Fort Collins Top Questions

What are the most popular student activities/groups?

Ashley

Partys are always fun here, well usually, but i feel like they are better than at other schools. People are always wanting to meet new people and there is always open hands somewhere.

steve

lots of social activities available

Christopher

The students here are very open and sociable. The greek life here isnt really that great and it seems like not many people really appreciate or care about it. The sporting events used to be a big deal until the athletic teams started to do poorly. The turn out for football games is pretty steady but not too grreat at any other events. In the dorms, people were very nice and kept their doors open to get to know one another.

Lauren

A group that I am involved in is intermural sports. All through high school I played sports so it is nice to have something to do and look forward to here. One thing that is really nice about intermural sports is that it is easy to sign up and find out about them. If it would have been difficult in the least bit to sign up then I would have said forget it because I dont like to waste my time.

Michael

I lived in the dorms my first semester and students do leave their doors open. I think that athletic events will become more popular if our athletic program imporves. I party every weekend and every Tuesday I go to Sundance. Last weekend I went to the Denver Autoshow.

Tammy

Some of the closest friends i've met at CSU came from different experiences. A few of them i've met at parties or through other friends. The ones i hang out with the most i met through living in the dorms.

Annette

I am involved with CSU Women's Club Lacrosse team. This is one of the things I love about CSU. This orginization is mainly run by students, so we have a lot of say in how we want things done. At the same time it's very competetive so you feel like you are on a varsity team.

Brittani

Greek life is a significant part of the CSU campus and is growing each year/semester. I rushed my freshman year in order to get involved in the campus and meet new people and it has done exactly that for me! Greek life also helps you to get involved in your community and volunteer projects. My dorm was a kind of nerdy dorm, but still many students left their doors open and you were always welcome to come in and hang out or just pop by if you needed help or had a quick question.

Natalie

I know football is very popular here, however this is only my first semester so I haven't gotten to experience much of the activities yet.

Jane

Intermeral sports, women groups, GLBT, football, valleyball, lacross, and el centro. i am not involved right now. most of the time yes. most athletic event are popular. Many guest speakers come to CUS campus and many Plays at our theater. i have meet my closest friends in my smaller classes, and in the dorms. wirting a paper. most people party every weekend. the Greek life is big for CSU.

Alex

There are some 400 organizations on campus. I have tried maybe ten, and I loved nine of them. NSCS is a great honors society that does really fun volunteering. HURS is a great program if you’re thinking about research. There’s parties on campus, people hanging out, a three dollar movie theatre, concerts, plays, restaurants (nothing closes till 2), guest speakers, it’s a blast. Fraternities and sororities are here, and a lot of people join them, but not the majority and they all try to uphold good standards, so they are actually nice to have around. This last weekend I went to a movie at the three dollar theatre, hung out with friends from cu that came up, went hiking at horsetooth, hung out with friends from soccer, and did homework.

Sophia

lots of people are sports fans and the fall is the busiest time. football games make great weekend outings and our volleyball team is pretty great. i currently live in the dorms. most people leave their doors open if they are in. everybody is nice and everybody is always meeting somebody new. the closest friends that i met here live on my floor. we clicked in the begining and went from there. as for weekend activities, many choose to party, study, or just hang out and do whatever. not everybody who parties drinks. they just go to have a good time with friends and hopefully meet new people. not far off campus are fast food resturants like chippotle and noodles & co. and several little coffee houses. they are great places to study or hang with friends.

Jenna

I have met my closest friends living in the dorms. Everyone on my hall is very social and they all get along very well. Everyone's doors are always open. Also, we attend football and basketball for almost every home game. I know a lot of people in sororities and frats, but I don't feel like it is very prevalent on campus. There are things to do during the weekends and the week without drinking. I personally go clubbing on Thursday nights. During the weekends, a group of us get together usually on either Friday of Saturday nights and watch movies.

Kerri

Our school is very active, so everyone is involved in something. Such as theater, or people that go to the plays. Everyone helps everyone, and supports everyone. People party at this school a lot, but not over the top. Fraternities and Sororities are important at every college, as a link to meet new people and os forth. On any saturday night you can go bowling, go to the mall, hang out and watch tv, there is a lot of things.

Amy

CSU always has a career fair and there is typically always something going on in front of the student center. At 2am on a Tuesday I am either up watching tv or cramming for a test. I met my closest friends from working in the dining hall, the other was my first roommate in the dorms.

Erin

I have no involvement in activities and social life. There simply nothing that is interesting to me.

Steven

Social life is good during the week. Everyone is out and most people seem friendly. The weekends is where there are problems... there just isn't a whole lot going on. Except for Summit Hall, most students seem to keep their doors open which is nice. CSU's sports teams are pretty awful and the games aren't incredibly fun to go to, but intramural sports are fun.

Lauren

The dorms are a great way to get to know people. Everyone always has their doors open and are always willing to chat. This is where i met some of my best friends. You become a family, eat together, study together, go out together.

Zach

?

Katie

There are many organizations/clubs for every type of person to join.

Kara

Greek life is very popular. Students in the dorms mostly leave their doors open. Athletic events are pretty popular considering all of our sports are horrible. I met my closest friends over summer. People party on average probably twice a week. Last weekend i went home and i went to boulder.

Rebecca

I think being greek life is the most popular.

Josh

There are many organized sports outside of class as well as club sports which a lot of students attend. The club sport teams are very good the varsity teams suck people party most weekends and sometimes on Thursdays. Sororities/frats are a waste of money here most people don't even like anyone in frats. There's a ton to do on Saturdays besides drink especially once it gets warm out.

Alyssa

I am not really aware of the popular organizations on campus. Students, in the majority, do not leave their dorm room doors open. Athletic events are high up there on the popularity level. Dating. What is dating in college? Hooking up is what everyone is doing here. I met my closest friend through a girl on my floor. People party all the time up here, CSU thinks that not a lot goes on but most definitely the amount of partying is not always told. If an authority figure asked you how much you drank for a survey... what would you tell them? I went down to Denver for a show. Then set off fireworks. It was a blast. I could do exactly what I do do to avoid drinking on a Saturday. I usually wonder around the beautiful parks we have here in Colorado.

Joey

Students in the dorms are excellent. There's plenty of people to meet and plenty of parties to go to and be involved with.

Blake

WELL I AM INVOLVED WITH SPORTS, I AM A WATER POLO PLAYER. CAN NOT LIE, I LOVE IT. I GET TO MET SO MANY PEOPLE FROM EVERY SPORT. SOCIAL LIFE IS GOOD, THE SCHOOL IS SO BIG YOU GET TO MEET MANY PEOPLE.

Jamie

It may just be my dorm, Westfall, but students don't really leave their doors open- which sucks! I would love to be more involved with my floor and form close relationships with the people living here! I'm making it a goal next year to meet an entirely new group of people because i came here with my 2 best friends from high school and feel like we've held eachother back a little bit! People party often, but it happens off campus a lot more than it does on campus! For sure! And Saturday nights without alcohol means movie nights with the girls, hanging out with the boyfriend, or going out to dinner in Old Town!!

Travis

Right now CSU athletics are clown shoes!!!! Football games are still a fun drunken mess though. There are plenty of group, clubs, etc. at CSU. Great party school...yes if you are up at 2am on a Tuesday you better be drunk.

Ashley

Athletic events are popular. Especially football. I met my closest friends in my classes. If I am awake on a tuesday night at 2am, I am probably studying.

natalie

None. No one did in my dorm. They used to be more popular but i didnt go to one event this year and they are FREE! A lot of people date around and college is great for that because you are meeting so many new people. I know my closest friends all from high school here in fort collins. I havent really made any new friends at CSU except for my boyfriend and his friends who i met a local bar. i might be leaving Sundance or hanging out at a friends house or mostly my boyfriends house. The freshmen fair is always fun...but eveything else that people try to do whether alcohol is involved or not the cops break it up and ruin any type of tradition. I dont know any dumb frat guys or bitch soroity girls and i never want to. I went to a party at a friends hoouse both nights. Lots of stuff, go to the movies, go bowling, go to a local concert, go to a dance club, chill out with friends.

Cameron

Right now I try to stay focus with school and balance it out with my social life. I've met a lot of cool people here. So I try to stay involved.

Russell

im not sure what groups are popular. i dont really leave my door open often in the dorm because there are way too many screaming girls. like i said before athletic events are very popular but would be more so with improvement of the teams. the dating scene is different for everyone. my best friend lves down the hall from me. if im up til 2 i am either studying or socializing. people party all the time. frats and sororitys are not important to me but everyone has their own opinion. last weekend iwas at home forspring break and i had fun with my friends. you could sleep on saturday...or find other poeple that arents drinking. i do wahtever i want when i go off campus

Lindsey

intermural sports are pretty popular. I played intermural volleyball in the fall... it was awesome. like i said before, i'm part of RESET wich is a college ministry at Christ Center Community Chruch. i am also helping Brett Whitlow put together ONE this semester. I'm not really in the dating scene right now... i'm trying to know the Lord above all else right now, and no guys on campus really catch my eye... the only one guy that i'm contemplating goes to CSU, but i met him at church. Thats also how i met my closest friends. i'm sleeping at 2am tuesday, thanks!

Kelly

I do not really know what the popular groups are. I hear what the popular FRAT's and such are from my friends but that is about it. I am not involved in any groups this year but I plan on joining a couple next year. I see people's doors open a lot I never leave mine open though. Athletic events are really popular there is a lot of sports team support. I have never been to a guest speakers thing so I wouldnt know but theater I heard was pretty intense but again never been. The "dating" scene well...wouldnt know really have not dated anyone at this school yet but with all the people I am sure the "dating" scene is fine. I met my closest friends here either it was because I lived with them or I met them through my room mate or through my sister. If I am awake then I am either watching south park reruns or I am doing homework. The only tradition or event that I know of is 4/20. I heard that this is a party school honestly I do not really party up here I go to Boulder. I do not find frats or sororities that grand but I am sure others think there like the world. Last weekend I sat at my boyfriends and played video games all day and all night all weekend. There is a lot of stuff you could do on a saturday that doesn't involve drinking: video games, club, go out to eat, movies, bowling, etc. Off campus I normally just go some where and play video games, go to the movies, or go out to eat.

Colleen

I have joined a dodgeball team and Basketball team and soon on flagfootball but I wish there was an easier way to meet girls who are not in Sororities. The students in the dorms leave their doors open most of the time. Athletic events are not not as popular as guest speakers and theater is not popular with my friends. my closest friends are from my hall and people i met at orientation, but i wish there was a way to meet more girls like me who are not in a sorority where they pay to meet their friends. Awake at 2am I am hanging out in my dorm or finishing a project or paper. If its not finnals week people party 3-4 nights out of the week guess. On a Saturday night you could go to a bar or club and not drink or run around with friends. I study, party,go hiking, friends houses and shopping off campus.

Whitney

some leave them open and some dont, football mostly, studying at 2am , more often alot of drunk people in doorms, not really important in my opinion frats and sororieties are like segregational clubs and party hangouts,

Morgan

The bar scene in Old Town is with the best. If you like to drink you won’t be alone. Sporting games are a blast, even when our team sucks.

Sarah

not sure don't keep up with them.

Shannon

I am part of Delta Sigma Pi which is a co-ed professional business Fraternity. It is a great opportunity on campus and I personally have gained so much for the experience, I just can't speak high enough of it. On my floor in Allison Hall when I was a freshman (2004) a lot of people did leave their doors open, but it was definitely a choice that some people decided against. Athletic events vary in popularity, football EXTREMELY popular, and the rest kind of fall far behind that. I met my closest friends freshman year in the dorms and through Delta Sigma Pi. If I am awake at 2am on a Tuesday, I am generally hanging out with friends and having those conversations that make the world move. I would say people party pretty consistently Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Fraternities and sororities on campus aren't that important to the overall structure of the student body, some are part of them, some aren't, but people still interact and integrate regardless. There are a lot of great music events in Fort Collins, both on campus and at venues across town--great way to spend evenings!!

becca

If I am awake ona Tuesday, I am probably hanging out in the dorms with my friends watching movies and eating take-out. CSU is a very laid back school with something for everyone. On weekends, it is always easy to find a party but that is not the only weekend scene here.

Rob

Greek life is dying. I personally don't care. Although if the school wants to grow thats something that is going to need to grow as well. I think the intramural and rec center are run very well. The plans for the new rec center look awsome. The athletic department and sports progams have a Long way to go. I meet some of my friends in the dorms. I am also from neirby town so I new some other people before I got here. I usually go out almost every weekend. I drink but not to the point where I can't get what I need done. Theres always something to do, other than drink, on a Saturday night

Sarah

Some popular organizations are probably the sports teams and Greek life. There is a fun night life in Old Town and other outdoor activities.

Kara

Greek life is most popular. Students in the dorms leave their doors open all the time. Athletic events suck. Guest speakers are unnecessary. Theater isnt popular at all. I met my closest friends over the summer before school and they just happened to be going to CSU also. If im awake on a Tuesday at 2am i am studying. People party once or twice during the week and on the weekends. Greek life is very important cause of the friendships. Last weekend i went to boulder. You could go see a movie on a saturday night but honestly who wants to do that. Off campus i go to friends houses.

Molly

Get invovled on campus. It makes the campus a whole lot smaller and allows you opportunities to be heard and express yourself!

Kelly

I loved living in the dorms! It was the best year of my life. I go out to the bars a lot, I also love the brewerys! There is a lot of things to do outside (Horsetooth, parks...) and there are a lot of fun things to do in old town.

Alex

Students in the dorms leave their doors open. Athletic events are popular until the game is over and you realize that winning happens at CSU about as much as scandal errupts at CU. There are so many girls you will flip your wig. One tip of advice: wear sunglasses to campus so you can check everything out. I met my closest friends freshman year in the dorms... 2am on a Tuesday Possible Scenarios: There is no telling! That is the beauty of college! But if i had to list a couple possibilities i would go with... drunk, sex, all nighter, stealing music, or drunk. People party every night of the week. So if thats your thing you shouldnt have a problem making friends. Frats are retarded, sororities are even more retarted beacause they like frats, and kids that arent in frats know this. Last weekend? HAHAHAHAHAHAAH Last weekend i hit the bar scene with some homebros, got half a girls number and forgot her name, devoured curbside Gyros at 2am, and woke up hungover. I loved every minute of it! What can you do on a saturday night that doesnt involve drinking? Thats easy: DESIGNATED DRIVER

mike

as far as organizations go, i have no clue. i know that it was really easy to meet people and no matter who you were you are running into someone from a class in old town eventually. the greek scene, as i mentioned earlier, isn't really big, so there are many different house parties to hang out at. old town was a blast and on the cheap. csu ruled.

David

Class is creeping up, so I have to put the pedal to the metal here. What are the most popular groups/organizations/clubs/teams on campus? It really all depends on the major. Of course Greek life is the number one organization on campus. But there are also political groups, social groups, and a wide variety of clubs that people can join. Do students in dorms leave their doors open? It is in the dorms where I found the majority of my friends. This is how I met them. Everyone leaves their door open and you can just walk around rooms and meet new people. It turns our Rams are very social creatures. How popular are athletic events? Guest speakers? Theater? Extremely popular. We are loyal to our sports and our culture emphasizes seeing guest speakers and theater. Art is big at CSU. How often do people party? What can you do on a Saturday night that doesn’t involve drinking? · What do you do off campus? Quite a bit. However, it is not limited to that. Movies, outdoor activities, dining and generally hanging with friends is big at CSU.

Andy

Many most likely every week, Fun, educational and experience

Kim

I'm a member of CSU Women's Rugby and it's a competative sports club. It's a great way to get physical fitness and I have met a lot of my close friends on the team. There are so many different opportunities to get involved, there is something for everyone.
