Colorado State University-Fort Collins Top Questions

What is your overall opinion of this school?

Cody

CSU is a good sized university, there is a lot of diversity and opportunity to get involved. Because it is a large school there are many opportunities for cultural experiences and different social clubs to be involved in. People react well when I say that I am going to CSU. I love the town and think that there is a good interaction between the town and the school. There is good community support.

John

The best thing about CSU is its location, and the view of the mountains from campus. I'd change the rule that you cant register for some classes unless registered under that major. I think school is just the right size, with the exception of some of the 400 plus kid classes. there isn't enough teacher interaction in those classes. On campus I spend most of time time around the LSC. Deffinitely a college town. As far as I can tell, the administration is good, there's some that are great and some that are kind of not in the loop, but not everyone can be. The latest controversey on campus, is what student tuition is being spent on. There is a lot of school pride. As far as I can tell, there's not really anything unusual about CSU.

Aaron

I personally like CSU and would say the best thing about the campus is how spread out the campus is. It makes you feel not so cramped. There is a little elbow room. Also the size is good. The classes are typically small enough to get time with the teacher and yet large enough that you don't feel you are always in the front row. (Unless you want to.) Also, Fort Collins is a great place to go to college, with fishing and biking nearby and a great night life in downtown.

Brian

CSU is amazing, the best thing is the people. Then comes the college town lifestyle where on sunny days everyone is outside running or playing a sport. One experience i will always remember is just being with everyone i have met and exploring Fort Collins within my four years at CSU.

Ryan

the absolute best thing about csu is the construction management program.

Chandler

School spirit

Hannah

CSU is a great school. It's large, but I feel very included

Andy

The best thing about CSU is the campus and the people on campus. i think everyone is very friendly and the campus is beautiful especially during the fall when all of the leaves change.

mike

The best thing about CSU is the school of business and the campus. There are really great clubs here. The football team. the school is fine the way it is. When I tell people where I go to college they nod their heads and say, "cool." I spend most of my time on campus. Fort Collins is a great college town. There are plenty of activities to do through the school plus many others in the surronding area. I just transfered here so I dont know that much about the administration. I dont know what the biggest controversy is on campus. Oh yeah there is heaps of school pride, every where I go people are wearing their school colors. I'll remember living on campus. I dont know what the most frequent student complaints.

Beth

I think that CSU is just the right size. There are enough people to create a good diverse group with lots of opprotunities to meet people but there it's small enough to have personal relationships with campus faculty and other students. The most recent controversy dealt with the Free Speech in the Collegian when the student wrote "F Bush". Although I understand why it was controversial and I personally think we shouldnt bash our president, I think that the controversy was mild compared to other campuses (such as CU!) The most frequent student complaints are about parking. The parking is my biggest complaint. We have very few parking places and its always been a problem.

Lane

The parking is HORRIBLE, i hate that shit. This is the only school i've been to that you have to park in neighborhoods because they are too cheap to have enough parking. If that wasn't bad, they keep raising the price of the parking permits. Its ridiculously high right now. They have been planning on building the stupid parking garage/tower thing since 1992 when my uncle was going to school here. They still havent build it yet because they say they dont have enough money. Thats total bullshit. The parking tickets is another thing. $40 for parking in the wrong spot or the meter ran out? come on. seriously?

Ryan

I think that CSU is pretty good when it comes to number of students and the size of the campus, I am from Fort Collins so I have been around CSU and it's culture for my entire life. The people are pretty nice on campus and the scenery is pretty cool. School pride is somewhat important but you rarely see it anywhere else but at a football game and even then it's only the rivalry games like CU or Wyoming. The most frequent complaint that I hear is about the CSUPD and how much of a power trip they are on. I personally have had no run ins with them so I have no opinion.

Reese

The school here is just right. I love the fact that the campus is not spread out all over the city. Many campuses in Colorado are not all in one place, and it is very convenient that CSU is all together. Most people I tell that I go to CSU have great things to say, and are excited for me that I go to school here. I rarely hear negative things about CSU.

Jeff

I think CSU is the perfect size of school. It's not too big, yet not too small at the same time.

Charlie

CSU is the prefect size it makes you feel like your in a community. That is the best part that you feel connected to everything and everyone.

Tim

CSU is a great school. The students and faculty are extremely friendly and helpful. Ft. Collins is a great college town. You can have the college atmosphere near the campus or a small town feel away from the campus. Ft. Collins is close enough to Denver to always have things to do.

Kim

CSU is a great school. It is in a great community that shows a lot of support for our teams. I like walking around campus it's a beautiful place. The Oval is probably my favorite place to go.

Kate

The atmosphere is awesome, the people are nice to everyone and fort collins is a great college town. There is a not a lot of school pride but our mascot rocks.

Toby

I think it is jsut like anyother school perfect if it changed we would adapt to it but all in all proficient

Daniel

The best thing about csu are the people that it contains. One thing that i would change would be the speed limits around campus, they should be at least 30mph. My school is perfect size. People react in a posotive way when i tell them i am from csu. On campus i spend most of my time in classes or at the rec center. College town. The csu addministration is okay to say but sometimes needs some work. The biggest recent controversy would be the new rec center. There is a lot of school pride. NOthing is unusual about csu. One experience i will always remmber are the people i have met up here. The parking tickets.

meg

our school is perfect. people dont give us enough credit. i would encourage our school to be more green, we should be at the forefront of the sustainable game in all aspects of our school.

kyle

I think the best part about CSU is the location. In probably the best town in USA for its location and atmosphere. Its awesome too because there are so many outdoor activites around the area. I think CSU is just about the right size, but i do believe we could have some more school spirit. Since, our sports are not the best people are'nt that crazy about going to see the teams, which kinda take away from the school pride.

Alex

The best thing about CSU to me is the atmosphere. I love just walking around campus. Its a relaxing feel. I also like how attentive the advisors are, especially the advisors who help the undeclared majors. They also have a great online system that makes registration for classes easy. I think the campus size is just right. There is a lot of space and I like that. Most of the free time I have I spend in the student center but I am looking forward to hanging out in the new computer building that they are almost done building. It is more of a college town. The most recent contriversary I can remeber is the article written in the schools newspaper that negatively protrays Bush, well atleast the headline did. I think there is a lot of school pride, even if the sports teams arent so good. I will always remember the times with my friends really. I mean class is class. And Im not really involved with clubs. I will also remember living in my own apartment for the first time and how crazy that was. Also how much tests SUCK and how you need to learn HOW TO STUDY!! I think I just wish that the campus was prettier. The buildings are kind of ugly and dont really match.

Jake

I think the best thing about CSU is the community around it. Everyone is very nice and supportive of eachother and very friendly. I think the school is the right size i just wish that CSU would push to become more nationally recognized. I feel that there is a fair amount of school pride but thats definatly an area where we could improve in.

KJ

The best thing about CSU is the people. They are all exceptionally friendly and most would give you the shirt off their backs if you asked for it. The school itself is the perfect size. It's big enough so everyone doesn't know your business, but small enough so that you'll see someone you know just about any time you're on campus. It isn't intimidating, and if you put out the effort it's easy to climb to the top of the campus hierarchy. People in this state are really proud of CSU. If I tell someone from Oklahoma that I go to CSU, I usually get some sort of big "Boomer Sooner!" reaction. When I'm hanging out on campus I spend most of my time in "The Gay" (The Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communications). It's a brand new building with state of the art equipment and relaxing study areas, so journalism students never want to leave. They are actually expanding the building in the next few years, and it's going to have an outdoor courtyard, a third-floor terrace, a coffee shop and all sorts of swanky additions. CSU's town, Norman, is definitely a college town. There's always something fun going on, and the entire town (really, the entire state) gets into our sports scene. Local Normanites have a really healthy relationship with the university. And our President, Papa B. (David Boren), is a great guy. He's done so much for CSU during his tenure and he's incredibly friendly. He has a big Santa belly and the jolliest face, it's hard not to love him. Really, there's a lot of school spirit here. You'll always see kids wearing Sooner paraphernalia, and when our football team goes to bowl games all the statues on campus get decorated accordingly. (Before the Orange Bowl, the statues donned orange "pearl" necklaces, and before the Sugar Bowl any statue carrying a basket got a sack of sugar placed inside it.) If I had to point out some student complaints, they'd mostly be around the drainage issues on campus. No matter the amount of precipitation, our campus always floods, and you basically have to canoe yourself to class. And forget walking through the grass in the North or South Ovals right after its rained, they basically all transform into marshlands.

Courtney

Fort Collins is very much based around CSU but it offers so many activities outside of the college that makes it a great place to be living, especially in the college years.

Vick

I think the school is the right size. I spend time in the college town. I like it here

Paul

CSU has a great campus and the classes are well formatted. The people are nice.

Ryan

The best thing about CSU is the town that it is in. Fort Collins is an awesome town and they appreciate the student population. Another great thing is that CSU is awesome for is all of the outdoor recreation.

Tyler

I really like the campus, it wide open and their is the great view of the mountains. The people are really friendly too. The size of the school is 25,000 but it does not feel that big, for me i really enjoy that size. Fort collins is a college town that supports csu inmany ways. The school pride would be alot greater if our sports teams were actually good. It would give the students something to be excited for and someone to root for.

Brittany

CSU is just the right size for me; not too big nor too small. I spend most of my time on campus in my hall. When it gets nice enough outside, I like to be out by the lagoon tossing a frisbee or throwing a football. I dont really go to any of the CSU games because It kind of sucks when you lose all the time. One thing I dont like about CSU it that in the dorm rooms the students cant control their own heat for their room, so its gets super hot. We would save so much energy if there were some way to control your own heat. I know so many people, including myself, that sleep with the window open even when its snowing becasue your room is too hot.

Sean

I like the landscape csu has to offer. More students would be nice. Just right.

Lindsey

I love csu. the campus is open and i like how the dorms surround the playing fields and that the campus is separate from the city of ft collins

Nicole

It is a pretty good school, I love the campus and the fact you can see the mountains from almost anywhere. When I tell people that I go here, if they are from Colorado they ask me why not CU and if they are from Nebraska they say good choice because I could obviously never go to CU and be a terrible Buff! I think Fort Collins is a great town, it is not just a college town because it is clean and not ghetto. Many college towns are run down and completty taken over by college kids but Fort Collins isn't. Old Town is great and really cute. The only thing that I don't really like is that I don't think there is much school pride, I miss Nebraska in that sence, everyone is a crazy Husker fan there and goes nuts for Husker games, wears Red every Saturday and everything else.

Brian

CSU is a larger school, but I think it is a good size. I spend a lot of time in the library or in the Lory Student Center. Fort Collins is a college town around the campus, but things are spread out so it can be hard to get from one place to another.

Chad

I like walking through campus on a hot day and looking at the beautiful things. You can see are school pride when you go to a home game and the fans are all decked out in green.

Gabriel

It's a large school and I don't get enough sleep.

Gabriel

It's a large school and I don't get enough sleep.

Kyle

The students and the location. The school is to large and isn't very personable.

Jessica

So far, I've really enjoyed my time at CSU. Even though we have a very large campus, there are still plenty of opportunities to get personal with the staff and students. It's easy to get help when you need it and there are resources available for almost everything you could imagine. There are a wide variety of student organizations and everyone does a good job of making members feel welcome. It's easy to meet new friends and the atmosphere is generally pretty relaxed. Overall, CSU is an exciting and comfortable place to enojy your college experience.

Justin

Excellent school. Great setting. It's against a backdrop of the beautiful foothills, and there is so much to do here. It really is a college town.

Kristen

I think the best thing about CSU is its location. There is so much to do here and its not too far from Denver, the mountains, Estes Park, etc. There is a lot of school pride, especially when we are winning.

Alex

I would say most people i talk to out of colorado do not know very much about CSU. I love CSU because for the most part everyone is really laid back. I also like the campus becasue it is very open and has a great view of the mountains. For the most part the facilities are just okay but it seems like everything on campus is in the process of being updated. Fort Collins is the epitnome of a college town, most kids here are not used to seeing too many people over 26 or under 18 or over. i would say there is smoe friction between older fort colllins residents and college kids. The biggest controversy is the greek scene in paticular the frats giving a bad name to the greek system (parties, girls, booze, drugs etc). Another big deal is the student population, mostly the school newspaper constant bitching about school admins and spending. Im pround to go to csu but i think i just went to one football game because our football team is so terrible along with our other sports. any diversity on campus is mainly due to our athletic teams who are either going to the most raging parties or constatnly stoned off the best weed money can buy in fort collins.

Kelsey

The best thing about CSU is the atmosphere on campus. Many people see that CSU is a school of about 25,000 people and assume that the number of people would not be conducive to a very friendly atmosphere. However, at CSU, people are still polite and friendly even though you do not know them. There is just a fun "vibe" anytime on campus and there is always something going on. Whether you are walking through the plaza and there is some festival or simply through the student center and they are handing out free stuff.

Andrew

Everyone here is usually pretty nice, and everyone seems energetic and very in to recreational things.

David

To the best thing about CSU is the fact that it is a big school but really isn't compared to other schools, the campus is really convienient to get around I think compared to my last college which was in two different locations. I like the college of business it is very nice.

Jenna

I like the location of CSU. Fort collins is big enough that there is stuff to do, and it is close enough to Denver to enjoy some city life.

Paige

i've really enjoyed going to CSU so far. someone needs to do something about our power hungry athletic director, but other than that, i like most aspects about csu. if you could move the school to either the west coast or the east coast or bring an ocean to us, this would be a perfect place. one thing that i truly hate is all of the crap that liberals write in the collegian. i know that we all have the right to freedom of speech, but come on now...bashing our president and making all kinds of left wing comments or writing only left wing articles in the paper is pretty ridiculous! i fell like our school is being overrun by a bunch of liberal hippies that are trying to conform the whole school to think and believe what they think and believe. most days of the week, i just want to walk into the collegian editing room or building or wherever they meet and punch most of them in the face. i'm embarrassed to say that i go to CSU because of things that they've said in the collegian.

Rachel

I love CSU!
