Colorado State University-Fort Collins Top Questions

What is your overall opinion of this school?

Charlea

I believe that CSU is just the perfect size and I think that CSU is also very well respected around Colorado. Right now I spend the majority of my time in the dorm, at the library or at my sorority house. One thing that i think CSU could improve on is atheletics ans school pride.

Meagan

It is perfect. It has the small town feel, but is no where near a small town. There are so many new faces every day, and there is so much to do. But at the same time, it does not feel like a huge town, where you never see the same person twice.

Becca

Alright, here it goes, according to these suggested topics. The best thing about CSU is the people. There are so many awsome people here that I've rarely had bad experiences with anyone, good friend or aquaintance. If I could change one thing though, haha I'd give the Clark building a makeover since I'm in there ALL the time! As far as the size of CSU goes, for me it's perfect. We have what?...slightly over 25,000 people?. I like that, it seems like the perfect amount to always be able to find someone you know on campus, and yet not be trapped by seeing the same people all the time. Haha, the reaction I get when I go to CSU has nothing really to do with the school itself, seeing as I'm from Ohio most people are just like "what's so special about Colorado?"....I guess it's a testament to CSU though, that I care enough about this school to keep on going here, and love it here, despite the protests of my friends and my boyfriend back home. It seems to me that I spend most of my time on campus in the rec center. That's because I work there though so I don't know if that counts. During the day I probably spend most of my time in Clark, or other buildings where I have class, or the Lory Student Center where I seem to always find someone I know and can hang out with inbetween classes. The surrounding area around CSU really can be described as a "college town". There are so many students everywhere and campus is right in the middle of everything, all the hustle and bustly of Fort Collins. Again, I like it and I think it's perfect. I feel like Fort Collins IS CSU, but at the same time if you don't like what Fort Collins has to offer, you've got Greely, Boulder, and Denver fairly close. Haha the most recent controversy on campus was probably about how we sacked all our sports coaches after terrible seasons for football and basketball, or the whole "Taser this, Fuck Bush" article in the Collegian....as a student I, personally, think it was funny, but I can see why the article could garner anger from others. I think there is still a lot of school pride though. It'd be nice to win a few more sports games so that we all wouldn't be united under the joke of our teams and rather the success of our teams, but either way I still feel like the people here really wouldn't rather be anywhere else. There's always something interesting/good going on on campus always plenty of spirited people pulling it off. One experience I'll always remember? Oh man, there of course isn't one. It's everything. I had a great Dorm experience, I've gone to cool talks on campus, I've heard random people give their own "talks" in the plaza, I've seen people help each other, I've seen people get hurt, I guess It's all just one big experience and I hope I'll remember as much of it as I can! As far as complaints go, though, I guess since I know alot of people in the health and exercise science or sports med major who have to take a lot of science classes, I hear a lot of complaints from them about teachers they can't understand (due to english not being their first language) and how hard it is to schedule and get the classes they want because those and other science majors are so popular that the classes fill up fast.

Chris

I think this school is the perfect size. I especially like the wide open campus and all the grassy areas we have. I never feel like any place on campus is too crowded. But, I wish I would change the parking laws. It's ridiculous trying to find parking someday's and when people run late, they park somewhere they think is ok, until they get a ticket.

Dustin

CSU is a very large school with a lot of great people that go to it. I believe some of the classes at this school are definitely too big, but that is the case for most large universities. I think we have a lot of opportunities here though, and our money seems to be spent pretty well. The biggest controversy ever was the **** Bush in our collegian. I don't think it was neccesary to do that, but I was never embarassed to be going to the same school as that. There is a decent amount of school pride, but if I was to change one thing it would be our athletics be better. A large school like this needs to have better athletics, believe it or not that is pretty important to incoming students. I almost did not come here because they weren't the best, but at the time I applied it was a lot better than now. I think it would really increase our school pride.

Tiffany

The best thing about CSU is the different degrees they offer the students! I would change how much tuition is for sure. I think campus is just right, and has the perfect amount of students. People usually just say oh nice whenever i tell them i go to csu. i spend most my time in my dorm or outside my dorm in the courtyard when on campus. it most def is a college town, which i think means most the population is students.

Parker

CSU kind of reminds me of high school all over again. I transferred here from CU Boulder and campus there is so much prettier and classrooms are much newer and cleaner. What really drives me nits at CSU is the amount of terrible teachers that I have gotten who all seem like they should never have been aloowed to teach in the first place. One of my teachers even quit mis semester...

Stephanie

The school is great and a lot of fun to be at. the student body is really nice and it is a fun place to learn and meet new people.

Vanessa

I am normally used to not being around a lot of people, so the school is a little big for me. However, I know that for being a University it is not too huge. I spend most of my time in classes, then I head home. I think that the CSU pride is strong. One of my complaints is the amount of parking available. I park in the Z parking lot and it is normally really hard to find even one spot where my classes are. Also, because of this reason I have even been late to a few classes.

Robin

I love the csu campus, but Iwould change the dorms. They are n ot very nice on the inside and look very out of place. It would look much better if all of the buildings were more uniformed. The police department concerning tickets is far too strict!!

Kyle

The size, this school is really large. People say it is a really nice university. Most of my time on campus is spent in the library and in class. COLLEGE TOWN. The administration is good, but some of the choices are ill advised.

Whitney

I think the best thing about CSU is all the student involvment. There is always something going on on campus either with helping out the community or getting students together to raise awareness for something or, to experience new and different things. It's really amazing how many things student will come up with to get people involved in thing.

Alex

The people and events are my favorite part of CSU. I love Greek Life, it keeps me really busy with fun and incredible events. I am also in the new Academic Village and it is a great community and I feel very fortunate to have such nice living quarters. I appreciate the size of CSU, and do not agree with President Penley's decision to expand the number of students, I think that will only cause crowding and a lowering of admissions standards. I get the college town feel from Fort Collins, it would be better if we were good a sports, but that is a different subject. I think that CSU's administration doesn't make a very good attempt to understand what the student population wants and is very out of touch with the general student body. I love all of the people I've met at CSU, and love the welcoming enviroment of the town and the people the most, I feel very safe and at home here.

Julie

The best thing about CSU is the diversity of the student body. The class sizes for freshmen should be narrowed down so the professor can actually get to know some of the students. One thing that CSU does have is school pride even when all of our teams are sucking. The biggest school complaint is the parking, it is kinda getting ridiculous in that fact that more students are driving per year but the parking lots get cut. We need to figure out a solution to this problem, even if that means raising tuition for the ones that do drive.

Gene

I would change the policies and requirements to receive in-state tuition.

Carly

I think that the school is a good size, but if anything it could be better. When I tell people I go to CSU they often dont know where that is or much about it. I spend most of my time in classrooms on campus. I think that there is a lot of school pride, but it could improve and we could support more of our club teams.

Josh

I feel that CSU is the most amazing place to go to school. the learning environment is very good. along with the great school the city of fort collins is awesome. the people are cool and it is just a neat town all around.

Caitlin

I love the friendly atmosphere of CSU. I love the diversity of the school, but if i could change one thing that would be to get more excitement and school pride when it came to our athletics. I also wish I didn't get stopped everyday to answer questions about God. I have my own beliefs...thanks.

Troy

If I was to change one thing about CSU it would be the student fees. I think that there should be lower student fees, if there should be any at all. I mean we already pay enough for tuition, books, living, food. So why then do we need to pay CSU more if we already pay too much.

Melissa

For me the best thing about CSU is the people. I feel like people here are so nice and welcoming. It's such an awesome atmosphere. The one thing that I would change is the weather if I could, it's so windy here!! Beware of the wind girls that curl their hair everyday! I think CSU is a little big, but they warn you of that. So if you're in to small schools, this isn't the place for you. When I tell others that I go to CSU they react in a respectable way saying that they have heard it's a great school and very well know.

Emmerson

I am really really sick of people asking me to sign petitions and answer questions on the plaza...especially when I am CLEARLY too busy to talk to them. I love Fort Collins.

Daniel

Colorado State thus far has been a great school for me. It is located just over an hour from Denver which means it's far enough from home (Lakewood, CO) but still close enough to drive to the mountains for some snowboarding. Fort Collins is a great college town that is continually expanding and advertises the most restaurants per capita in the United States which adds quite a bit of variety. The size is just right for me having enough students to branch out but not enough to be overwhelming. The school itself has also been pretty good to me. Being just a freshman, I am taking two or three intro level classes which are taught by grad students rather than professors but I figure that as I progress in school, that will hopefully change. The only problem I have really encountered is the students. I truly expected to come to college and leave all the drama and immature kids thinking they are tough like they did in high school. But in reality, college has been just like a continuation of highschool where we are at the bottom again and get looked down upon by upper classmen. People really haven't matured at all and hopefully that will change too.

Shannon

The best thing I would have to say about this school is the wide variety of programs that they offer. The one thing I would change is renevating the clark building. I spend most of my time in the library on campus. When talking about CSU to others outside of school many think this school is a joke. For the college town, I would say the party scene is super overrated, and it just reminds me of a bigger highschool. I think that the administration is doing the best that they can do. The biggest controversy thus far, I would say was the F*** bush scandal in the newspaper. I would say that comparing other school pride, CSU is lacking.

Torry

A lot of school spirit from some people - like the student government. People seem to take pride in the school and the campus grounds

David

the school is a good size, i spend most of my time in my dorm or in class. Foco is definately a college town. The bike cops are a joke there are plenty of other things they could do with there time besides writing me a ticket for riding my bike the wrong way on a one way street that no one uses.

Jennifer

i def. think that Colo state needs more parking and i think that it should be administered to all students. i know that it is difficult becasue our campus had a large lawn but i do not think that it should be turned into a lot. i think we need an underground parking structure.

Tate

I love the campus!!!!!! every thing connects to each other not like CU, but we sure need a better food court!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Leah

The best thing about CSU is its commitment to excellance. The school is just about the right size, although I think I'd change the parking situation. I hear its going to change, just not in time for me to use it. Most people don't react negatively when I say I go to CSU. I get a mostly neutral to positive response from people. Most of my time is spent in the Moby complex, as most of my classes and my on-campus job are located here. Fort Collins is definitely a college town. Surrounding businesses are very supportive of CSU and the students. I think the administration is mixed between people who don't really care and are just doing a job, to those who really care about the impact they have on a student. The biggest controversy would have been the free speech issue over a headline in the student newspaper. That one stirred up national interest. There is a lot of school pride. You can see it everyday, walking through the plaza, or at most major events.

Frances

CSU isn't too big or too small, its just the right size. Our football team sucks, the amount of money we put into our football team could support 100 other, more interesting sports such as Rugby, hockey, etc. not to mention how much money we put into the stadium for our crappy team. i also believe that raising money for a parking garage could be done in other ways that giving $30 parking tickets to college students.

Emily

CSU is a great enviroment. It has a welcoming and accepting enviroment. It is not too big and not too small. People i tell thatI'm going to CSU are impressed. I spend most of my time on campus in classes or in the student center. Fort Collins is a fun college town to live in.

Harper

I feel the best thing about CSU is that it is a bigger school, but doesn’t feel like it at all. Some bigger schools seem overwhelming in their numbers but I don’t think CSU has that feeling; you can make the school as big or as small as you want to. Being from Illinois, people usually react in a positive way when I tell them I am attending CSU. Colorado has a great reputation of being a great outdoor adventure, and here at CSU, it really gives me the chance to fulfill that interest.

Bobby

I think the best thing about CSU is the town. I think Fort Collins is a perfect college town. It's very bike friendly. Old Town is fun during the day and at night. There's always something going on. I think that Fort Collins in general is a huge supporter of education and CSU.

Maggie

The nice thing about CSU is it is a big school but it does not feel overwhemling. To me it feels like just the right size. One thing i would change is to have poeple more invovled because it seems like alot of people just don't care about what is going on. I spend most my time on campus in my classtooms. I think there is a reasonable amout of school pride but i wish that there was more.

Sam

CSU is a pretty cool school in my opinion, it's layed back, the students and staff are easy going, and it is a fun place to be. This might be because of the city it is located, because Fort Collins is considered one of the best places to live in the country, and there is a lot of local support for CSU in the community.

Adam

The best thing about csu is the very green grass around the whole school, also how fort collns is very clean.

Cameron

I love Fort Collins and the college community here. It is a 25,000+ student university, and yet, I feel like it's my small hometown. I grew up in the South, so compared to those schools, CSU does not have a lot of school pride, a characteristic which shocked me and I am still disappointed in. My biggest complaint would be with the administration which seems so distant from the student body. I feel like we have a lot of issues that they could help, but rather do not have the best interest of the students in mind.

Brynlie

CSU is a pretty average state college. There are a lot of people but most classes are too big. CSU has a good name, especially in Colorado, so most people think that it is a great school when I say that I go there. When on campus, I spend most of my time either in the library or in the Student Center. Fort Collins is defiantly a college town. It is small enough that it is mostly populated by college students or previous students of CSU. That is what I love about it so much! School pride is slowly slipping away and I think it is because our sports teams such!

lisa

i think the size of csu is just right. ppl seem to respond well when i say that i go to csu.. its a respectable place to be. i split most of my time between campus and my apartment.. nothing exciting. overall i'm not into any controversy but i do notice school pride.

Shannon

Make houseing closer, more of a college town not a family town

Miranda

the best thing about csu is the people. the people are very diffrent from the people in texas in many ways. CSU is a little to big for me for i grew up going to a fairly large high school but everyone still new everyone. there is tons of school pride here at csu which I enjoy for it makes me proud to go here.

Caitlin

The best thing about CSU is the location and the environment that the school gives off. Fort Collins is so envolved with the campus and everyone seems to love having college students in the town. Also, CSU gives off a welcoming feel and the campus is very laid back. The biggest controversy on the campus was an editorial about President Bush. It stirred up a lot of emotions and, a lot of people wanted the Editor to be fired. I would say there is not a ton of school pride. However, it is kind of hard to have school spirit when you have the worst basketball team in the nation and one of the worst football teams in the nation as well. One complaint that I hear from students is regarding parking. Students find that they buy parking passes and cannot find spaces and then have to park off campus, basically wasting the money they spent in the first place.

Corey

After growing up in ft collins i think csu would be considered a college in the town. I lived 4 miles from where i do now at the dorms and its a whole different world living on campus. Its awesome, its always busy there's people all over, its just a great atmosphere. only complaints i have are r.a.'s are stupid ha

Nicole

The best thing about CSU is probably all the different people. I love getting to know people and there are so many opportunities to reach out and really find out where you can best fit in. One thing I would change is parking!! I have to leave about half an hour before class just to look for a spot and even if I did have a parking pass.. there are limited spots. It's probably one of the most frustrating things about CSU. The size of the school is perfect for me. I spend most of my time at the LSC. I'm undelared right now so my classes are all over, so it's nice to have some consistancy with the LSC and always going there between classes to check email or grab lunch or meet friends... sometimes even take a nap! The biggest controversy is definitely the FUCK BUSH editorial. CSU got a lot of attention, but will all controveries its nearly forgotten.. which makes me think if all those protesters and people that claimed to be so offened really were. I'd be suprised if they even remembered it.

Ian

The school size is not too big or small. It is cool to walk across campus and always bump into some one that you know. I spend most of my time on campus in Rockwell Lab, or the LSC as it is a great place to hang out or study etween class. It is a huge college town here, and the whole city caters to us. Coupons and discounts, stores employ us or are managed by our alums, it is pretty sweet.

Shannon

I'd change the support behind ASCSU on campus. It's really sad how little support they receive and they really have a lot of control over the future of the students. When I tell people I go to CSU they are pretty apathetic--it's a school that isn't anything special and doesn't have a very large reputation.

Joe

Fort Collins is an awesome city as well. The night life is good. There are plenty of places that you can live, although it is a bit more expensive than surrounding towns. The biggest student complaints about the school seem to be related to parking (especially tickets) and how spread out the campus is. 10 minutes often isn't enough time to get between classes when they are on opposite sides of campus.

Amy

School Pride- I think that it is a mixed bag at CSU. Some individuals have a lot of school pride where others seem to not care one bit. In the sport area a lot of students do not go to the games and cher on their teams. At my last college that would have been considered unacceptable. Not only did all the students go or watch the games but the alumni would park outside the stadium and watch the game on TVs. I miss the school spirit, and it is not a big thing here. Most people are embarrased by CSU and I think that it is sad.

Elise

I really enjoy CSU and think it is a great school. I spend most of my time just hanging out with friends from either my house or Delta Sigma Pi. I love the town of Fort Collins. Old town has a great family feel and the rest of the town is clean and kept up to date. The last major controversy was the Chief Editor of The Collegian publishing the 'F' word on the front page. This was a huge risk to take- expressing his own opinions in the paper. I believe in freedom of speech but this was taking it too far. Obsenities in a public newspaper are not ok.

Lindsay

I spend most of my time in Rockwell, the College of Business. I have lots of group projects to work on, and the computer lab and facilities are nice. It's almost like a community because I usually run into people that I know when I'm down in the computer lab.

Alex

What is the best thing about CSU? I would say the convience of all the sources available on campus. There are many things to do such as workout, shop at the bookstore, buy supplies, get your hair done, buy flowers, many places to eat, etc. Is your school too large, too small, or just right? I think it is just right How do people act when you tell them you go to CSU? I dont really get a positive or negative reaction, but people act very interested and ask what my major is, if i like it, how far along are you? etc.....
