Colorado State University-Fort Collins Top Questions

What is your overall opinion of this school?

Elizabeth

Overall CSU is a great school, very friendly community, and there are many volunteer organizations to help less fortunate people. I have met some the nicest and best friends in Fort Collins.

Anna

I love CSU and the arcitecture. One thing I would like to change is updating the residence halls. The size is a little bit too large, but it is ok.

Morgan

The best thing I have found at CSU so far is that everything is "as advertised" when I was applying. I like the size of 25,000, because there are tons of resources and lots of activities always going on. However, I would not like for the school to get any larger. Fort Collins is an excecllent college town, with plenty of fun things to do, lots of resources available, and Denver is only an hour and a half drive to get to some of the biggest events in the state. Fort Collins has a nice mix of college but also normal residents, kids and families, as well as businesses. The most frequent student complaints are related to current proposals to increase tuition.

Lauren

I think that CSU has a great campus and is a good size for a college. I think the town really supports CSU and that CSU students represent the area well. I think the admisitration is alright. I feel like our advisors should be a little more personally conected with their students.

Maggie

The community in Fort Collins seems to be extremely supportive of the Univeristy! Everywhere I go, it's "CSU this" and "CSU that". It's nice to know people and businesses in the area support us as students and athletes. I feel like the size of CSU is about perfect. I don't feel like a part of a statistic here. I feel like teacher and faculty are more than willing to help with any problems you may have. I attended UW last year and CSU is more welcoming than the other univerisity even though UW is smaller. However, I do not like paying the huge amount of out-of-state tuition required to attend CSU. Though I realize it takes a lot of money to run a school like this, I feel out-of-state tuition has definitely gotten a little outrageous...

Carlos

I have to say that I absolutely love CSU. I am not originally from Colorado and ever since I moved ot Fort Collins I fall in loved with the town in its people. I think the school size is perfect, it is not too big but it is not too small either. While on campus I spend most of my time on the college of business and at the library. I think that the CSU administration is doing a good job but there is definately a room for improvement, specially in recruiring more diverse students. CSU has opened me the doors to many opportunities and I am really proud to say that I attend Colorado State University.

Vance

Csu is a large campus with beautiful scenery and strong character. Everyone has a great, laid back attitude, and a strong sense of acceptance. Right now our football team sucks which lowers our school pride; something we need to work on. As for spending time, old town has alot to offer, but my passion is in horsetooth. Go there during the day or night and you will be awed. Aside from horsetooth i spend alot of my time with my fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon. I beleive joining a fraternity has made my enjoy college much more. Mainly from meeting new people and creating networks.

Tate

CSU is just right for the size. People react normal when they nowthat I'm in CSU. I spend most of the time in the library. The most frequent student complaints about the high expectation for the open option students seeking either engineering or business. They make a lot o effored in having a high GPA but the classes are not helpful in giving them the grades that they deserve.

Kayley

I like the spread out feel of the campus and the people who appear to be extremely nice. I would maybe upgrade the dorms in some areas and in particular the bathrooms. My school is just right. It has 25,000 people so it is great for me. I get either really great cheers from former graduates or I get the Go Buffs response to fellow Colorado graduates. I spend most of my time in class or at the Lowry center. Fort Collins is more of a college town. I believe all of the administration is here to help you in the best way possible. I have nothing but positive feedback about my classes and professors. The school sponsored newspaper editor allowed to print an explict comment about President Bush. I would say the people that go here are extremely proud not to be a buff! There is nothing ususal about CSU that I know about. My first day moving into the dorms. It was exciting and yet scary. I would say the weather because it gets pretty cold here.

Amanda

I would change the impersonal help and service about this school. it seems like everyone is helpless at times. I spend alot of time at the library which I happen to like alot because it has plenty of resources. I also like the campus, but the parking problems and parking tickets are enough to drive you to find education else where. School pride is great, you see everyone wearing CSU stuff and the college town is perfect and mostly safe for everyone. CSU is in a great location and has alot to offer, I just think that there should be more information and help out there for students.

Reese

I would change cost of textbooks, parking, and tutition. Honestly I don't care if we have a pretty new roof for a building I also don't care about paying for athletics when I'm not involved in any of them. Improve the classess not the extracuriculars.

rachel

The best things about CSU are the people and the setting here in Fort Collins. I'd change the abilities of our sports teams, to make them worth watching. The size is just right. People have positive reactions and know CSU. I spend most of my time in the lab at Rockwell Business College. It is definately a college town. The biggest recent controversy was the potential purchase of the student-run newspaper, the Collegian.

Sarah

I like CSU for the most part. I think the campus could be better looking but I like the town that we are in and the people that go here. We have a lack of school pride because our athletic department is a joke

Chelsea

I think the best thing about CSU is that people are very open minded. The one thing I would change is I which Fort Collins was a little bigger. I think the school is just right in terms of size. People who go to Boulder react badly when they hear I go to CSU but for the most part people are happy to hear that I go to CSU. The only time I spend time on campus acedemicly is for class, but I live at the dorms on campus. CSU is deffinitly a college town.

Jesse

If theres one thing I would change about CSU it would be that there aren't walking tunnels to campus to shield us from the treturous weather.

Andrea

The best thing about CSU is everyone is easygoing and laidback. just about everyone i meet i like. if i could change anything it would be the architecture of some of the main buildings, they look straight out of the 1960's. i also really dislike the wind, but i don't think there is much of a solution for it. campus is fun, especially corbett. old town is great, love it. i wish that our teams were better because i think everyone would be more supportive. my fingers are crossed for next year! i don't generally hear complaints from students and i myself don't have any.

Marissa

CSU is a wonderful school. It is a large school, but the individual colleges break down the size. It is nice being able to walk down the halls and see a lot of familiar faces. Ft. Collins is a great college town. I grew up about 20 minutes from Ft. Collins and could not bring myself to leave the area. A lot of people take advantage of our close proximity to the mountains and love spending their time outdoors. Our school lacks in school spirit, the past few years our sports teams have done very poor. My favorite place to go on campus is to the Oval, it is a beautiful part of campus during all seasons. My freshman year was absolutely amazing! I loved living in the dorms, there was always something going on. Some of my best memories have been from playing intramural volleyball, soccer, and flag football.

Brett

CSU is awesome to say the least, the school is a good medium size and the town is great to bike and walk around. We are also located right next to the mountains where we can do many outdoor activities (i.e. biking, hiking, climbing, fishing, etc.). CSU is really well rounded with a lot to offer, a great school that I will never regret attending.

Lori

I am a working adult student. My student life is VERY different than the average CSU student

Austin

CSU is within a small town, therefore it has a strong sense of community. The campus is also spread out, thus allowing for greenery and nature to be highlighted. And although the athletic program is in a current slump, the community as well as the school is real supportive. I have spent most of my time in the recreation center, because I enjoy to work out and play sports. Overall, the school has a strong sense of community and connectivity because the town is fairly small, therefore everyone knows one another.

Kevin

I'M PROUD TO BE A CSU RAM. I am just a freshman but this year has been the best year of my life. People talk about how many students go here and how hard it is to see people you know because the campus is big but that is not the case. I got involved in a Professional business fraternity-Delta Sigma Pi and I have made so many connections. Everyday walking around I see some friendly faces because people here are genuine and willing to talk. I love how seeing someone can make the campus feel small.

Kate

I love CSU! it's gorgeous! the one thing i would change is the food. I do not like the dorm food at all. I

Bailey

One thing I would change about CSU is the fact that they will find every little thing to charge you for.

Taylor

The best thing about CSU is the environment and atmosphere Fort Collins has. I believe are school could be a little bit bigger because there is a little crowding in classrooms. If I'm on campus I am usually in class or killing time in the lory student center. I do believe Fort Collins is a college town because without CSU Fort Collins would barely be anything. The summer is basically a vacant town without the students.

Chris

I love CSU, plain and simple. I love its atmosphere, I love the people here, I love the activities here. All around it is a great school to be at. No matter what your major you can find something that helps promote that and gets you involved in it. I think out of the whole campus my favorite place to be is the library, not necessarily to always be studying, but to just go and relax and think a little. The atmosphere is niec and theres always a good quiet spot for you to just sit down and either do homework or just think.

Amy

I really love coming to school here! The campus is really nice, and I definately get the feeling that everyone here is very friends, because they are! I love the way the residence halls are, somewhat, separate from the rest of the campus. I don't think that there is anything that I would change, there is the right amount of people, and all the professors are great!

Jenn

I think CSU is the perfect size for me. I like being able to meet new people each semester, and still be able to see some people around campus that I can say 'Hi' to. Fort Collins is definitely a college town. Not that the whole town is made up of just college students and faculty, but that the whole town is full of CSU pride. You can see bumper stickers, decals and flags pretty much everywhere you go, which makes you that much more involved in your school.

Liz

I really like CSU because of its a larger campus. Although sometimes i wish classes were smaller, because it might be easier to get more attention from the teacher and learning would come easier, however, i like big classes because that is the ideal college feel. I enjoy the freedom to be able to attend class because I want to, and not because I have to. I also like that CSU because its a nice college in Colorado. I came to school here because I wanted to move to Colorado, and this seemed like a good school in a great state. One thing I hate about CSU is that people can smoke everywhere and anywhere on campus. I dont care if others smoke, but I dont like the idea of them smoking near me. I have realized that campus' like Front Range Community COllege in Fort College has designated smoking areas, where as at CSU poeple smoke infront of doors to buildings, while waiting in lines, or in common areas outside of the lowry Student Center. So if I could change something that is the first thing I would change. Also i feel CSU needs some updating... a lot of the class rooms have broken chairs and desks, and need some new things. As for it being a college town, I enjoy it. there are a lot of younger people in this town and people who are active, that go out and run, take their dogs to the park, and overall are active. I like being around this, becuase then I too am motivated to be active and feel safe and comfortable being out and about. Where as in Denver near DU and Metro, I would be afraid becuase its a large city with lots of smog, and bums, and the crime rate is a bit higher than Fort Collins.

Christina

Best thing about CSU: It's a large university and therefore has many benefits to offer One thing I'd change: more FUNDING for Theatre & Dance departments (we can hardly afford to offer the BASIC classes to students in these majors) Too large, too small, just right: CSU is large, but just right for me. It's like its own city. People react with indifference when I tell them I go to CSU; they are not impressed but do not think low of it. I spend most of my time on campus: at the University Center for the Arts (technically just OFF campus) CSU defintely makes Ft Collins a College Town CSU's administration: Like any administration, I imagine there are alot of politics involved (both personal and public), and sometimes decisions will be bias despite efforts to make fair/equal decisions. Frequent student complaints: PARKING, tuition hikes, construction that we have to work with but won't benefit from (we'll be gone when it's done.)

Ashley

Our school is really laid back. The classes can be easy or hard depending upon the professor. I spend most of my time in the lib when Im not in class, its huge. Our school is just right.

steve

wasted tuition money that could be better spent, or refunded back to the students, high rent prices

Christopher

CSU is a great school that has great teachers and excellent resources. The dorms were nice and well kept and the dining halls have great food. The thing about the campus that i dont like is that it is so wide open and i feel like there isnt much to look at. Fort Collins has a very warm feeling and is very diverse.

Lauren

I think everything is great at CSU. I think the best part is the people. I have made a lot of friends since being up here. It just seems like the majority of the people are happy and really friendly. CSU is not too big or too small. I come from a really small town so it was nice to have a change and experience an environment with a lot of people, but at the same time it is not so big that I feel uncomfortable or scared.

Michael

Overall CSU is a great school. CSU is sized just right. I think that our school lacks pride. Reason being our athletic program needs to improve.

Tammy

The best thing at CSU is the atmosphere. Despite its large campus and student population, it's easy to adapt to. Everyone here seems to be friendly, not only the students but the faculty as well.

Annette

I feel like CSU is too large of a university for people to feel like they are making any substantial changes in their life. Since I have been here, I feel like I have not grown as a person, made any true long lasting friendships or gotten very deeply involved in my subjects. CSU being a large university has contributed to this because a lot of times I feel like it's easy to just sit back and do nothing and not put any effort into anything because no one is watching.

Brittani

So far I have really enjoyed CSU. The campus is nice but parking is death and only continues to get worse! The buildings are not the most aesthetically pleasing but I am not really at school for the aesthetics of the campus. If I could change one thing, it would not be about the school, it would be about the weather. I feel like it is ALWAYS windy in Fort Collins. This makes it very unenjoyable walking or biking to class.

Natalie

I like how there is always something going on here and that there are so many opportunities to get involved with other students and organizations. I think this school is a good size for me. My favorite thing about CSU is how "green" it is. I spend a lot of time off campus which is nice for me because I like to get away from school as often as I can.

Jesse

Attending CSU is a wonderful experience for everyone. The classes are unique and are suitable for any age. Also, the class size is just right; not too big nor too small.

Jane

I love the people who go to school here and the town, i find it easy to fit in and meet new people. one thing i would change is how they match people up in the dorms, i don't really think that they really take into consideration the information that we give them. In my eyes the size of CSU is just about right. Many people ask if i like it and if i would rather be at CU, but i tell them i love it up here. In my dorm room and in the library. Fort Collins is a College town, for sure. I honestly do not know much about the administration at this point so that must mean they are pretty good. i love the School pride and the sporting events.

Alex

I love that it's big, but I am in honors (which I recommend) so I still get small classes. I am having difficulties choosing a major, and it's great that CSU has so many. The experience is your own. The resources are almost limitless here, you just have to be motivated enough to use them. The dorms aren't bad, the food is pretty good. It's great to be on campus, there's so much to do. Some of the administration is helpful, others (some advisors) aren't, but the benefit of being in a big school is the fact that there are probably five different advisors just for that major that you can utilize.

Alex

I think that CSU is the perfect size school. Yes, there are a lot of students and it could be uncomfortable at first. But the more that you spend time making new friends, you can easily see the homey-ness of the school.

Sophia

CSU is located in fort collins, colorado. it is truly a college town. that is how they make most of their income. usually, if you live here you have something to do with the college or your family is here for farming. the town is great, it's little and welcoming. there are 25,000 students and 5,000 professors. it is a big school, but it doesn't feel like it. everybody on the campus is nice and very friendly. csu is a main university that students in colorado pick. when people here that i am going there, it's not a surprise and they wish me luck. there is lots of school pride, especially if we are playing CU Boulder or having a boarder war with Wyoming. overall its a great school.

Jenna

CSU is amazing! Every person I talk to has a relative or knows someone who went or is going to CSU and they never have a bad thing to say. All I hear is praise. I couldn't have picked a better school. I think the size is just right, maybe a little big, but I feel comfortable on campus. I get a very strong sense of community here and feel very welcomed and safe. My only complaint is that I wish that they offered architecture as a major. They have construction management and landscape architecture but not just regular architecture.

Kerri

The best thing about CSU is that there is something for everyone. Whether it's extracurricular activities, clubs, or anything. It's in a great location as well. I think the size is just right, if it were to small I think it would be boring. There is also plenty of school pride.

Amy

CSU is the perfect college, it doesnt dominate fort collins, and the town is spread out. There are things to do and places to eat. Not much crime to speak of. I love it here.

Erin

the campus is far to wide spread, if it were an option they should condens the buildings and have more student space availible. I spend most my time in computer labs CSU's administration is too impersonal. After searching the web and not finding the answers I would call some one and they send me back to the internet. Not very helpful.

Steven

CSU is alright. I really like Colorado and the city of Fort Collins. However I don't like life on the weekends. It seems to center around drinking every night and there aren't a lot of people outside playing sports on the weekends. Actually, there aren't a lot of people at the school period, since lots of people go home. That should tell you something about the school right away.

Lauren

Everyone at CSU is nice! All the students are very polite and are always saying hello to strangers. The size of CSU is just right, you know a lot of people but not every single person..there's always an opportunity to meet new people.

Zach

The best thing about csu is the laid back learning environments
