What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Linda

The advise I would give myself then if I knew then what I know now is do not wait 28 years to go back to school. I would go to school right after high school, so I can fulfill my goals early and not have to be so nervous now about reaching my goals now. That way also I could set a better example for my daughter by not waiting and just reach out and grab your dreams as soon as you have the chance. Getting your education is very important in obtaining your goals.

If I only knew then what I know now. That is so true for me today. The me today is telling myself that school is one of the most important things you will do in your life. Getting a good education will be beneficial in your life. Working to support your family is the American Dream and you will not have to struggle as hard if you have an education. Try to better yourself with every thing you do. Do not settle for mediacraty. I am 58 years young, raised my family, and now am taking time for myself. I would have done things differently by getting an education first however, at the time family was my priority. Now the family is off on their own and I am left with myself. what a better time to devote to me! thank you for the opportunity to better myself, finally.

I would say to explore all of your options; ask as many questions as needed to get to where you are trying to go; find the right people to associate with that can help you along the way; do not take no for an answer and if by chance you get a no answer do not stop untill that no turns in to a yes; seek help from your family, friends, teachers and anyone else that may cross your path on your way to your goal; always do some type of research; always do your best and never settle for anything less; take pride in everything that you say and do; always accept constructive criticisim and nothing negitive; have a good sense of humor; always be polite no matter what; be able to listen, even if and when you do not want to; accept help not matter who it comes from and when it may come; be open for change, cause change happen sometimes; do not put things off until a later date, you may run out of time or close a door that you needed open and for the last thing be true to yourself.

Procrastination is your enemy! Do not give up, do not get discouraged, and keep to the books. Times will be tough, but you will be able to get through. After a test, even if you think you bombed out, reward yourself with something fun. When you find out that you did not bomb out, celebrate! Use the resources at your disposal to complete your classes such as tutoring, library, and study groups. Remember you are paying for these services, so be sure to get your money?s worth. Choose a major you will enjoy, not for how much you ?should? make when you start working in that field. Again, procrastination is your enemy.

I would tell myself to take my time in applying to colleges and choose the college not because it is the easiest choice, but because it is the best choice for me. I would also tell myself that I have plenty of time in my future to find somebody to marry and not to rush into it and start a family until I have finished school. If I would have waited to start a family, I would already be done with school. However, because of choices that I made when I was eighteen, I am now only halfway through and will struggle to pay back my student loans. It has become ten times harder than it would have been if I didn't have two toddlers to tend to while trying to put myself through college. My advise to myself would be to finish school, start a career, and then start a family.

Tahalia

Tahalia, ever since you was a little child you wanted to be the first of your mother and father children to go to college. Now the opportunity is at your door, grab it and make the best of it. You know that your mother cannot afford to send you, so try and make it there on your own. You can do it! It will be a struggle, sometimes you might not have enough to pay for school, however try your best. Reach for the sky but if you fall remember the stars are there to hold you up.
