probably really weird & different. we are such a mix of creative mush. Fine artists, designers...fashion, music, theatre, marketing... it's really funny how you can place students in their major by looking at them
Students are SO diverse! From Flaming to Conservative we have the whole spectrum, mostly very liberal but it is so wonderful to have the whole spectrum here. The diversity in race & culture & passion allows for acceptance & respect for each other, which I don't think is seen at many other schools...but i've only been here so i guess i can't say for certain.
The best thing about some of the LAS Core classes that you have to take is that the profs are really passionate & excited about what they are teaching you. They are also excited to learn about your passions & how you can mesh those with the classes you may not really want to take, like math or science or history.... I have an Ancient Civilization class right now that is going really well, all because of the teacher. His passion for teaching is so encouraging.
If you want to be involved seek it out, if you don't want to...then you don't have to. There are many diverse groups on campus & if you don't see one you like then create your own. Some major ones are the LGBTQ, Campus Crusade for Christ, Inter Varsity... It's easy not to be involved & it's easy to seclude yourself...but don't. Find a good community to surround yourself with. One who you can collaborate with & one who lifts you up & challenges you to Create Change!
i've been having a difficult time staying motivated this semester but taking with my teachers & just being really open with them has really helped me. also seeking opportunities to learn outside of school, going to artsits/designer talks & meeting with people who are uplifting & remind me of why i am in school studying industrial design.
The city is our campus, which is my favorite part. I think it makes you mature quickly & gets you out exploring the city & communities around you. The school is working hard to be Green, we have a plethora of recycling bins on each floor & i know big steps are being made so our school is more sustainable. My program (product design) is a small intimate group. An awesome family really. There are big exciting changes happening in the program, which i am very excited about!
Columbia is where creatives from all over come together to create & learn more about the creative process.
