What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Rebecca

I feel like my major (Cultural Studies) is misleading. I think there should be a better description. It's nothing like what I expected it to be.

Casey

I wish I would have known how competitive this university is. I would have worked harder in high school or in my time off from school in order to build up my abilities. I also would have made more of an effort to stay involved in my chosen field.

I wish I would have known to look for scholarships that would actually help me pay for school. I also wish I had known to get an apartment instead of living in dorms and cost way too much money for me. I wish I would have known most of my friends would drop out because they couldnt not afford this school.. which I don't want to suffer from the same problem and would love additional help.

I wish I had known mor about the techers I would be signing up for. Also, how to have a work scheule as well as a social life.

Alexa

There is practically no room to specialize in your area of interest. There are too many required courses in the curriculum and not enough flexibility in order to attain the education specific to your career goals. It is hard to meet people if you don't live in the dorms at first, it is not a very sociable school and has practically no sense of community. Almost everyone commutes to school from all over the city and goes home after class, there is not a lot of interest in meeting people or involvement with the school.
