Columbia University in the City of New York Top Questions

What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?

Marco

Faculty and access to resources.

Ben

Columbia's location and campus are amazing. It has the best of both worlds; a standalone campus (several blocks of gorgeous real estate) and a prime location (uptown Manhattan). Combined with the top notch academics, it was a great place to go to undergrad.

Jaclyn

Recently, we're all proud that we've held the number 4 spot in the US News college ranking right after the big three (Harvard, Princeton, and Yale) for the second year in a row now, but I tend to brag most about the World Leaders Forum, in which world leaders are brought in to speak to the students, and then take questions. The experience itself is incredible.

Melissa

Everything. The pride and the welcoming and inclusive feeling of being part of a timeless institution that is constantly evolving despite its firm roots in the nation's history. The professors, who are themselves still involved in active research and are inspired by what they teach. And the endless opportunities in terms of academics but also extracurriculars in the form of hundreds of clubs and student associations.

Kevin

The people I have met and where they came from.

Luz-Maria

Because of the rigourous coursework, only a select few are accepted and that places us in an elite group of ambitous individuals.

Julia

There are so many things that drew me to Columbia: the value of the Core Curriculum (how everyone is reading the same book at the same time), the gorgeous campus, the perfect location right in Manhattan. But my favorite part by far, what gives me (in my mind) the most bragging rights, is the fact that almost everyone I meet is an intelligent, well-rounded person. I am so interested by the people all around me, the conversations we have, the friendships we've formed.

Jessica

Columbia students get the best of both worlds: an amazing array of courses with awesome professors and, out of class, the chance to explore the coolest city.

Juliet

I brag about the wonderful opportunities of the location. I especially focus on the wonderful cultural experiences I have had here. There is so much art, music, and theater around that you can never get bored here.

Dylan

Our school has incredible academics.

Emilie

The quality of the education and the location.

Yufei

its in new york city

rosalyn

It's location and core curriculum

Ryan

The city.

Laura

The topics of my classes and the types of classes available are really interesting. I like to tell them about projects I'm working on. The quirkyness of my firends here always makes for good stories at home.

Jun

New York City.

Marisol

I learn a lot from my fellow students and they are very intelligent.

Danielle

I often brag about the quality of teachers an their candid stories of personal experiences. It's not often that students have the opportunity to hear, first hand, stories that altered the couse of society from people who were actually there. I also like to emphasize the amazing cultural variety availble in NCY, it is truly a melting pot of personalities, religions, and cultures--a feat hard to come by.

Vanessa

The location and the quality of the professors. On NYC-- you will never, ever be bored. There is always something to do, be it on campus or in the city. The professors are brilliant, but that only means when you have a class taught by a professor. There are plenty taught by grad students, but that is not always a negative. One of the most stimulating classes I took was taught by a political philosophy PhD student.

Nathan

The people. Between world leaders speaking, nobel lauriats teaching, famous musicians and artists performing.

Lauren

I brag most about the fact that it was in New York City.

Elisabeth

I brag about the fact that it is so demanding, rigorous, challenging, and yet exhilarating. I feel very few of them have faced the challenges, both personal and academic, that I have faced and have so much to show for it. I have a greater understanding of myself and that understanding continues to grow each day. I consider myself an intellectual, who recognizes the impact their life can have on the world. Such knowledge is , because I believe it is such knowledge that will pave the way for success.
