Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

Alison

The small classes, the excellent professors, the honor code, the stunningly beautiful campus, the proximity to NYC and Boston, the beach being only 15 minutes away, the career advancement office and the CELS stipend (students who complete a few night classes a year and the proper paperwork are eligible for a $3000 stipend the summer after their junior year for completing an unpaid internship), the arboretum, the sexual assualt and violence awareness campaigns on campus, and the college history (originally a women's college).

When I first arrived at Conn, I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into. Most of my relatives had gone to 2-year colleges or had commuted, but I was the first to live away from home and fully engage myself in the "college experience." I am so grateful to have made that decision over three years ago because this school is perfect for me.

Jennifer

How accessible the professors are and how much research can be done while in school.

C

I <3 conn

Andrew

Connecticut College is a great place, I highly recommend it.

Chelsea

Connecticut College is the only school that has an environmental chemistry major! We also have a specialized program called CELS that will award you 3,000 dollars to complete a summer internshi of your choice between junior and senior year. We are the only college or unversity in the world with the camel as the mascot.

Melissa

Our funded internship program. Our school sets aside 3000$ for each student that desires to do an internship following their junior year. This program is available to everyone and helps students explore a career area of interest they may not be able to otherwise.

Rachel

small size, nice campus, Chinese language availability and quality

Rita

small classes, friendly people, intellectually stimulating

Josh

We have an awesome arboretum.

Nicholas

New London is a terrible college town, and its citizens don't really hold high opinions of us either. This negative opinion is probably due to a lot of different factors, but we certainly don't see any outstanding attractions that New London offers either. All-in-all though, Conn is an excellent place to get an education and still have fun while doing it (imagine that!).

A student talks about movies, his free time, and college life.

Emily

The campus itself is absolutely beautiful, that needs to be expressed. It´s filled with trees and flowers, and the Green is really pretty. Plus, across the street we have an arboretum which is huge and great for walks and laying out in the sun.

Jamie

I've loved my time here- what makes this school great is the students. They are genuine, amiable, and love this community. We all bitch about the costs which are ridiculous, but w/e, college is ridiculous. Do yourself a favor- spend a night here. I can guarantee you that you'll feel the good vibe.

Marissa

I wouldn't have picked anywhere else to go, my time at Conn was amazing!

Watts

Conn offers anything and everything. If it doesnt offer something, they are more than willing to shell out some money to get your club or idea going. However, everything you do at Conn requires initiative and without it you will find your time (and monumentous tuition bill) wasted.

Ryan

DO NOT come to Conn if you want to study abroad. They advertise it as a strength, but fewer and fewer people are being "allowed" to go.

Jess

Don't get nervous about asking people to hang out/chat/etc. It's a strange transition to college, and sometimes it can take a while until you've found your right group of friends.

Maddy

Conn is an awesome place to go. The weather can get a little depressing in the winter, but so far I've had a pretty sweet time here. If you want to put in lots of study time and work hard, you'll do great academic-wise and have fun while doing so. If you'd rather slack off and get mediocre grades, you are still able to enjoy yourself. Conn is what you make of it.

beth

you can have a great time and do as you please, you may have less friends if you choose not to drink.

Cameron

Mail should be open on Saturdays, health services should have better hours, and there should be more choices for food after dinner closes instead of just Oasis.

Katelyn

A lot of students (and their parents!) worry about the co-ed bathrooms. Honestly, though, they are not a big deal at all. Yes, you will learn some things about the opposite sex that you probably did not want to know, and things go on in the showers that make shower shoes even more of a necessity, but most of the time, after the first couple days, it doesn't even phase you to see a guy (or girl) in the bathroom (although I can say that when I've been really tired and run into a guy I did a double take and wondered if I was in the right bathroom). If you really can't stand the idea of hearing a guy/girl pee, we do have single sex floors that you can apply to. My only advice? Don't date someone on your floor, because then running into them in the bathroom after you break up is awkward!

Lane

Conn Coll is a great place and a great balance for me. I have really grown as a person here on many levels.

John

The best thing to do to get a feel for Connecticut College is to come visit and take a tour of campus. Spend some time people-watching and see how being on campus makes you feel. That's what sold me.

Kate

Conn is a GREAT school. All NESCAC schools are great schools and you will get a great liberal arts education. These are the "little ivy" schools people are talking about!

Jeff

It's alright but the academics here are overlooked. Too much focus on other extracurricular. And its a lot of money

Peter

Connecticut College is very adept at looking professional and not backing it up. Academics here are sometimes great and sometimes terrible. The housing lottery system is somewhat corrupt and a pain in the butt to deal with. SGA runs well and there is strong competitive involvement in anything bureaucratic at the school. New London is a terrible town with very little opportunity. However, the student body is smart and nicely sized. Everyone gets single rooms most of the time but access to kitchens is limited. The drinking culture is surprisingly large given no greek life but this is birthed out of the lack of other activities. The good things are: There is a great opportunity for anyone interested in Rock music via MobRock and most of the instrumental teachers are very strong. The CELS program can be helpful junior year and while graduating and CELS attracts many students. It has a beautiful campus and arboretum and it is small enough that student teacher relationships can be very strong. The Bad things are: Overall, in my opinion, Connecticut College is largely overpriced, the dining halls are diminishing in quality year after year, and too much money is spent on worthless things. Some professors should have been fired years ago and the school needs to allocate more money into departments that struggle financially. The school recently spent 8 million dollars on improvements like sidewalks and other worthless renovations that should have been spent on quality of life.

Carolyn

I love the dance department here. If anyone is considering getting a BA in dance, they should get it here. We have the best professors and the best studio spaces.

Hannah

Cannot say enough how incredible the dance department is!

Jess

The dance department is amazing!

Becca

The dance department is amazing! Our professors are well educated and versed in the modern dance world and this knowledge oozes onto the students. We also get the opportunity to work with various esteemed guest artists who are big names in the dance world and who are also eager to keep in touch after their time at Conn.

Lindsey

the dance department is awesome! great classes both for people who have danced all their lives and for people who have never danced before

Kate

the dance department is amazing.

William

I think I said pretty much everything I have to say/

Amy

I love the dance department! The faculty is so kind and always there for you whether you need to talk about dance or not.

Lauren

I really like Conn, especially the Dance Department!

Jordan

The camel is the best mascot ever. The food is.. not great, but theres lots of variety.

Ernie

I love conn.

Freshman year I lived in the substance-free dorm, which if you really do want to be free from drinking and drugs is a fine place to live. I think it's important to add though, that I've lived in two different dorms after that (one on South Campus with quite the party reputation) and I was never really bothered by people drinking or smoking. Every once in a while you get some loud peope down the hall, but it's really nothing. So if you're considering sub-free, my advice would be to live in a regular dorm. Honestly. Freshman year when I wasn't comfortable drinking, I never felt pressured to do so by any of my friends or even people that I met at parties. My sub-free stage lasted until about October freshman year, but it was nice to have a quiet and clean place to come back to after going out with my friends. I guess you could run into problems with a roommate who smokes all the time or drinks every night of the week, but I would rather deal with that than the social consequences of living in the sub-free dorm. And by that I mean, you just don't meet a lot of people when you're not going out to parties and you're just hanging out in the sub-free dorm! I managed to make a bunch of friends outside of my dorm, but my one freshman year roommate had a lot of trouble doing this and I don't think she was as happy as she could have been. So that's my bit of advice for Conn housing assignments!

Riordan

Summary: It's beautiful, as are the people, but it can get a little preppy and wealthy at times. Everyone finds their niche, and I personally love it, despite its shortcomings. Nowhere is perfect, you just have to find the place that blends with you the best, and then make it the best when you arrive.

Tate

You may have noticed at this point, I basically don't like anything about Connecticut College, but I do need to observe a few key positive things: there are a small subset of very talented, interesting, engaging people; there are occasional great class discussions; the campus is generally nice, even if the weather blows (literally and figuratively) all the damn time; both Harris and Cro have decent pizza. That being said, there is such a pervasive and depressing tone of intellectual apathy in everything on campus that I honestly feel that a) I learn more from hanging out with my friends at home than I do by going to most of my classes here, and b) on some days, I really do feel like I get stupider just by being here. (Also, my apologies for writing a series of answers to your questions instead of considered or pointed responses - I have quite a bit of busywork yet to complete tonight.)

Jesse

It sucks here

Hannah

not receptive to the needs of students at all, terrible attitude towards sexual assault victims

Katherine

I wen to Bronx High School of Science, which is about 1,000 people bigger than this school. I wanted to completely immerse myself in an environment that was totally different from the one I grew up in. And Conn is that place. Although it took some adjusting, and there are still times I yearn for a more town/city oriented place, I know I am receiving a unique and very important education that will be beneficial to me for the rest of my life.
