Connecticut College Top Questions

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Connecticut College is diverse and accepting. It is difficult for me to pin point a particular demographic or group of people who would not fit in. My school is very liberal. We have exceptional women, LGBT, and multicultural centers, as well as an expansive array of facilities and resources to accommodate most individuals regardless of their unique needs. That being said, if an individual is looking for an engineering program, or technical program, the liberal arts education may not necessarily be the best option for their acad

The people here can be preppy, and there is not a lot to do on campus, so most people just get together and drink and party (sometimes during the week). We live in a bubble, so it is hard to engage with the community in which we live. Some dorms are more independent than others; i.e. the people in them do not really come together as a community, they just live there. In addition, some teachers are also not very good, and think they know about a subject when they have no experience.

I wish I knew how much free time i really get while at school. It is very different from high school in this way because it is so structured but in college it is more concentrated on the student's independence.

I wish I had understood how much harder the classes and how great the expectations from the professors would be. It's a lot harder to develop a close relationship with a professor when you only have a class with them two days a week, as opposed to the five from high school. I also wish I had realized how much the price of tuition would have risen since I started going here, but no one could have predicted that.

How small it is. Not only in numbers but in resources. In order to graduate with specific majors, it is almost impossible to wait to declair until sophomore spring, due to the schedule of when classes are held and the order you must take them in. I wish someone told me that if I was even ever considering a major in the sciences to absolutely take bio freshman year.

i wish i had known that as a freshman you are very likely to be in a dorm room with two to three other people. Also that everybody lives on campus all four years almost all the time.

Before coming here, I wish I had known the importance of getting involved on campus. Not only will it look great on your future job applications, but it will also help you meet so many people and also help you get to know some of the faculty members as well.

I wish I had known that I could easily balance sports and academic work, and that I had thus played a sport from the beginning of my freshman year. I wish I had known how many opportunities I had, and how much I could achieve earlier on in college.
