Cornell College Top Questions

The worst thing about Cornell is not in anyone's control, it is the weather. I came from Las Vegas, where the coldest it gets is around 30's-40's. So, experiencing a blizzard and below zero for the first time, made me hate coming to college in the midwest. I couldn't enjoy a simple walk to class, I was never warm enough, and running on snow was & still is horrible. I warn everyone who is thinking about attending a college in the midwest about the harsh winters.

Although I enjoy Mt. Vernon as I am from small-town Iowa, some students do not like Mt. Vernon, as it is very quiet. There are not a lot of job or entertainment options, and it is a half hour drive to the nearest city. Many of the people who live in Mt. Vernon do not interact with college students.

We live in a bubble, disconnected from world events and other people. This makes it hard to get jobs after college and social interactions are a little odd especially when we are all stuck together for winter. The things we learn here seem applicable a lot of the time only in the bubble as well as the things we choose to do while here. Many of the issues we discuss while on campus seem very unimportant in real life and when outside of the bubble.

I had a horrible R.A. last year. She was mean and suspicious and refused to help my roomate and I when we needed help. She basically didn't do her job at all.

You're almost constantly in a time crunch.

Some buildings are in disrepair

The food times are not very flexible and sometimes the options aren't the greatest. However, you can always find something because they always have cereal, pasta, and salad. Another thing that could be considered the worst or the best is th fact that because the block is only 3 1/2 weeks long, every assignment counts. You have a limited amount of time to master the subject.

The worst thing would be the winters if you don't like cold. We tend to always have at least some snow on the ground every winter but the temperatures are usually worse because we are in the country and the wind can really get to blowing!

Small town Iowa... Its not fun to have to drive 25 minutes to get to a decent city with a target or walmart.
