My school is a liberal arts school and everyone is really liberal and open-minded. Everyone is involved in everything and everyone knows each other. Cornell College is like a family. Everyone is nice to each other and we help each other out. Cornell students are also really extrovert and willing to learn something new. So if a person is introvert and does not like to participate in school events, in other words, does not have school spirit, then Cornell College is not the best fit for them.
Cornell is not a good choice for someone who thrives on a big campus and lots of activities. If you are a person who sometimes does not want to go to one class, then this is not a good choice since here one class missed is like missing two weeks of classes. Classes are small, there is no way you can fade away and not participate. Mt Vernon is very small, so if you like a lively environment, you will have a difficult time here. There is not an option of living off campus until you are a senior.
There are a lot of different types of people at the school, but, mostly, if you're not going to focus academically, then you shouldn't go here. There are certainly people like that, but they flunk out, or go on probation, so it's probably not a good idea. The courses are very intense, so if you're not going to do the work, then don't go here. Also, if you're not going to talk to other people, don't go here. The school is way too small for that.
Someone who grew up in a large city and attended a large school would probably be very disapointed.
A person who procrastinates. A person who isn't interested in studying subjects in great depth. A person who is close-minded. A lazy person.
A person who wants to be lost in a crowd should NOT go to Cornell College. Also, someone who cannot manage their time will struggle with the block system, since every class is over with in three-and-a-half weeks. If you get easily overwhelmed with one subject at a time and need variety to let each class sink in, Cornell is not the place for you. If you want a large urban setting, please look somewhere else: Cornell is in a small town in Iowa; the closest big city is over three hours away.
A racist person! If you do, keep them to yourself because cornell is very stricked on this issue! I Hate it. A slacker! A violent male!!
Because of OCAAT someone who can't make themselves dedicated to their studies will do very poorly in the acedemics. On the other hand, non-party oriented people may have a hard time making friends.
People who aren't willing to pass up on social opportunities sometimes in favor of doing schoolwork or going to class will flunk out -- Cornell's class sizes mean we MUST go to class, and its schedule means that we MUST do our work, and it must be ON TIME. Late work is never accepted unless we fall seriously ill, and with classes capped at 25 or 18 students, the professor WILL notice if we don't show up.
