Covenant College Top Questions

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

Karl

The worst part about attending Covenant College is the location. Though it is beautiful, it takes 10-15 minutes just to get off the mountain to visit downtown. For those that do not have a car, this makes it impossible to leave campus.

kaddy

The lack of diversity and money it takes to go there.

annie

No ATM on campus.

Christiana

The worst thing about Covenant is probably their records and aministration offices. It is a huge struggle to stay on top of classes and bills. The records office is not efficient in processing major/minor changes which creates many problems when students register for classes. The Administration and Accounting offices always have holds on student's accounts, which are difficult to remove in short periods of time (Bills not paid, chapels not attended, etc.)

I think that as a Christian school we talk a lot about how to interact with each other and serve each other as brothers and sisters of Christ. I know that as a student here I would love to have more opportunities to go down the mountain and serve but sometimes this becomes difficult when there is not an easy means of transportation. Being on a mountain makes us a little bit secluded and I think it would be nice to be able to interact with families and communities more frequently.

Hallie

The weather, but that is something the school can't control.

Molly

Though it has not been an overbearing or direct problem for me, there are a lot of rules and regulations. It has been frustrating to abide by open dorm hours, parking hierarchy, and conduct contract. However, these rules are set in place for good reason. They are not hard to abide by, just annoying at times.

Isaiah

The worst part of Covenant is that the small environment and secluded location fosters some insularity which leads to ignorance of some political and cultural issues.

Abbi

THe worst thing about Covenant in my opinion is the required practical service. Every student has to do an hour of practical service a week or fifteen a semester. The jobs include cleaning and monitoring the gym. But mst of the practical service jods are mundane and do not really fulfill their purpose; which is to lower the costs of running the school. I ask people all the time about their practical service and every freshman I talk to thinks their job is pointless. This is the worst thing at Covenant in my opinion.

In my oppinion, the worst thing about my school can also be the best thing, its small student body. I came from a very diverse high school and miss the environment very much. I think my college is in need of more diversity.

Sophy

Probably the cost. It costs so much to go here and in some ways I understand it because what we're getting is valuable, but in other ways I don't at all. Another thing is the thought that, because ideas and thinking for oneself are held highly here, people get stuck in their ideas and won't come down or realize that those ideas may be held immaturely.

Katelyn

I think that Covenant College could be more eco-friendly.

Amanda

Honestly I find being at Covenant a blessing. However, the cost of attending Covenant. A year's cost at Covenant is 34,00 and that's a lot of money; and to be frank, it's money I don't have. If I didn't have to worry about whether or not I will be able to return the following semseter, I could focus on my classes and have fun (just enjoy being in college). I am working 15 hours of workstudy and taking 18 hours of classes and still trying to find 4,000 dollars for this current semester.

Erica

The worst thing about the school is that a lot of the time it is easy to get caught up in what goes on around campus that is easy to forget about the real world.

Lydia

I think that the worst thing about my school is that in some ways it is very isolated from what is happening in the world today. It is located on top of a mountian, which is very beautiful, but we are seperated from the city and the world, unless you have a car and make a solid effort to get off campus.

Clara

Sometimes I think that people can be too narrow minded about different lifestyles. The artistic, musical, creative kind of lifestyle is highly valued on campus. It's hard to be interested in other types of things.

Kara

In my opinion, the worst thing about my school is the weather. Because we are located on top of a mountain, there is often heavy fog that leaves students feeling gloomy and unmotivated at times.

Timothy

The worst thing about Covenant is what we call the "Covenant Bubble." The school is located on Lookout Mountain, Georgia. Because of this, Covenant seems to have a lack of close connection with Chattanooga, Tennessee. The "Bubble" refers to how the students feel that they are in a bubble, somewhat separated from the rest of the world.

Corey

The cost of attendance is really high and it kind of distracts the poor student from learning because you are always wondering how you are going to stay in this school financially, and not placing all your attention on your grades.

Kristyn

nothing

Karin

Lack of ethnic diversity. Sometimes it feels very homogenous and we miss out on the richness of other cultures being present with us (in more than just food). It is not that we are a completely white population, but we are overwhelmingly so. Perhaps that is because of the fact that the PCA is a denomination that is pretty homogenous ethnically; Covenant's cost can also be a turn off to others who would consider coming. However, I have seen Covenant taking steps to promote diversity in the student body rather than ignore the problem. It's very encouraging.

Tianna

Well i think the worst thing about Covenant College is the amount of money it cost to attend. It cost a little over $33,000 per year and its increasing every year.
