Ethnic and religious groups are very active on campus. Queens College also has active frats and sororities. Queens College competes in many college sports and has committed athletes in its student body.

Karla

Every semester, Queens College has a Club Day on the quad where students go to learn about the different clubs and groups on campus. There are a lot of sports teams that hold tryouts, political groups on campus like Young Democrats and United People (the current student government party in power), and social clubs like the Italian, Guyanese, Sikh, or Tertulia (Spanish-speakers) clubs. There's also a very active Hillel (Jewish student group) and MSA (Muslim Student Association) that get along very well. There are a few sororities and fraternities that have parties and do charity work, although I've personally never been to any soro/frat parties at Queens College. Off campus, people like to buy Hallal food from the stands right outside the campus gates or go to karaoke bars around in the Flushing area. It's not so difficult to get into the city so people go there to hang out. The truth is it's a commuter campus in a residential area, so there's not much to do. There's a LOT of learning and working in science labs and on-campus jobs and pick-up frisbee or football games when the weather's nice.

Marina

There are a variety of groups/organizations/clubs/teams. There are all kinds of sports on campus such as tennis, basketball, baseball, volleyball etc. When it comes to clubs, there are many multi-cultural events. I remember when I organized a multi-cultural party where everyone chose to bring a famous plate of their tradition. The great thing about Queens College is that it has dorms. They are all new and from what I have heard they are really nice inside. The libraries are also a great place to spend your time in. On finals week they are open all night and free midnight breakfast is served. The students that excel in their studies are always recognized. There are many honors programs that they can be part in. I am in the National Honor Collegiate Society and in the Business and Liberal Arts Honors Program. Parties and Festivals are organized by the Student Faculty almost every week. They make sure that they put posters around on campus and that they notify the students through e-mail/facebook.

rahab

different students associations often hold various cultures programs.

I don't really know what would be considered the "most popular" but there is a large following in the sorority/fraternity group. There are also ENDLESS clubs on campus, in everything you can possibly imagine. In addition to sports teams. So I don't think it matters what is the "most popular"... I think it really matters based on what you are interested in- and I'm sure you can find something that promotes what you are interested in. And if you can't, then you can relatively easily form your own club!

Sarah

I often go to events run by the Hillel, which is campus programming designed for Jews. The Hillel is based on the same floor of the Student Union as the Christian student center and the Muslim student association, which allows for continuity between groups and the ability to mesh. For people who aren't as religious, there are other programs run by honors societies, the gym (if you're the athletic type) and more - there really is something for everyone. There's not much to do at night, but during the day - especially on Mondays and Wednesdays - campus is booming with different activities. My favorite events are Fall Fest and Spring Fest, which are parties on the quad to welcome the new semester. Sometimes there are wrestling rings, soccer games, concerts, ball pits, and more - and everyone comes to celebrate being back in school!

Gene

black club meeting.

Megan

I dont really hang out much on campus or with friends from school. I live too far away to participate in that aspect of "college life"

Stephanie

There are so many clubs, organizations, frats, soros, and so on. Everyone has days they meet, places to meet, and are easilly accessible for more information, or if youd like to join. It is hard to particpate sometimes b/c it is a commuter school & if you live far away, like i do, its hard to come in on weekends or stay all day for night time events.

karen

there are no parties on campus, and there are no dorms

carla

im not ivolved in any groups yet, because of job reasons.

Deborah

atheltic events arenot popular, there are dances every now and then, but its still a commuter school, nothing much besides school goes on at QC

Alex

We don't have dorms, we are a commuter school but there are on going activities on campus all the time. Free music concerts, we have a museum on campus, numerous clubs, activities on the quad, discussions, roundtables, readings, and parties. The campus is definitely more alive during the Spring semester because the weather is nicer, you can be outside, play games, etc. The weekend on campus is different then during the week, its a lot slower.

Blake

There are lot of clubs and activities. I have made great friends. We get along well at school...student to student as well as student - professor relationships. QC is very, very mixed. We have a good ratio of men to women and every ethnicity is represented. In any class you will see Christians along with muslims, and Jews. Every ethnic group is blended in. We have a good physical fitness department with a great pool, track, gym as well as tennis courts. These are available for student use. We have a considerable amount of parking on campus and are convenietly located...accesible by car, buses subway and Long Island Railroad.

Alex

each group is equally popular events are pretty popular not athletic ones though not much of a dating scene but there is one i meet my closest friends in class people party on the weekends frats and sororites are important to the people in them but otherwise not that important last weekend i went out to dinner with friends and movies

Jesse

Off campus activities such as trips for our geology clases, or nutrition classes, sports

Laura

There are no dorms...there are some couples i see around. I met my closest friend on the first day of classes in my first semester. she looked confused and lost so i helped her out. I wouldnt be awake at 2 am on a tuesday i have class at 9..i never really hear about parties here. the sororities and frats dont seem real to me here. my sisters in a sorority away at school and its totally different. sororities here are easier to get into then away at schools. Last weekend I was sick so i did nothing. Sat night- movies, dinner with friends etc. off campus i babysit and tutor and go home,

Alexandria

There are over 100 clubs on campus, including sororities and fraternities. Different clubs host different events and we have a strong thearte department and an excellent music school. There is always something to do on campus. The literature departments hosts many excellent writers. The Geology, Biology and Physics dpartments always have someone speaking. As I went into QC with a boyfriend, I don't know much about the dating scene. I met my closest friends in my classes. I'm never awake at 2am on a tuesday morning unless I have a paper do or drank way too much coffee. I don't think QC has any real traditions. Unless you include club day. Last weekend I finished chem homework and than spent time watching movies with my brother. There is a lot to do on a saturday noght that does not involve drinking: going to the movies, going to a concert, a play, etc. Off campus I try and relax by spending time with friends, family and my dog. I like to hike, camp, etc. But again that is what the student makes of it.

Jane

they have alot of clubs.

Seth

Being a commuter school, the campus is about as dry as can be. No classes meet on Mondays and Wednesdays for an hour, Free Hour, during which every active student organization meets and holds events. This is also the ONLY time most events are held, so most students can't be too involved. There are kids who party and kids who don't, and they find each other. The dating scene is pretty awful, especially if you aren't Jewish. Frats and sororities? What frats or sororities? There are a couple, but they're pointless. No one sticks around long enough for traditions to take root. It's disappointing how old an institution has really no personality to speak of.

josie

once you join a team or a club, you have friends for life. the best thing i did was become a peer counselor, it will put you in a circle of some of the nicest happiest and most commited people at QC. the amount of events that take place, workshops and guests and fun stuff is incredible! you have a wealth of activities at your fingertips!

Victor

There are no dorms in Queens College. To put it very simple, it's a commuter college.

Phil

There are many activities on campus here at Queens College, both fun and educational. There are monthly club events, CLIQ Events, parties, and special seminars.

Jesse

There doesn't seem to be a big party at QC. Most students that I speak to don't party hard (for long periods of time) often. The activities aren't attended by most of the campus and that is due to poor advertising on behalf of the school for the clubs available to students.

Elizabeth

Because QC is a commuter school, there are no dorms (as of yet), so you can't hang out in your dorm room with a bunch of friends. It makes it a little harder to meet people when there are no dorms, but that doesn't last for very long. There are so many clubs that you'll eventually find one that fits you. There are academic clubs, such as the political science club and the Italian club, but these aren't just academic clubs. They hold events for the rest of the student body, such as soccer games and discussions about different domestic and foreign controversies. The Italian club offers tutoring to anyone who wants to learn the language. There are other clubs such as the Knight News and the radio station. I'm involved in the Ambassedor Club. We introduce prospective students to the school, giving them tours. We also help out at events such as Alumni Day and Commencement.

Charlie

the most active club on campus is the political science club. they always have events about so many different and unrelated topics. i'm involved with the sds, students for a democratic society. they try to remind the students here about serious issues like iraq's 5th anniversary and the palestinian struggle by holding a week's worth of activities.

Christine

i am part of the Freshman Year Initative. we mentor incoming freshman to life on campus at queens college. athletic events are not too popular on campus. i met my closest friends while being part of the freshman year initative where i was in the same classes with the same kids. there are a lot of events that happen traditionally at school. the halloween parties and the spring festivals are always fun to attend. there are quite a few fraternities and sororities on campus... i wouldn't say that they are important or have an overwhelming presence.

Rachel

QC has a LOT of clubs. If it doesn't exist you are free to make it exist. If the sport isn't there and there are people who want to play it, we will make it a club team. QC has been the "if you can dream, we can make it happen" type of college for me. While there really isn't that general feeling of QC togetherness, a lot of that goes back to the fact that we don't have dorms, which they are also working on to get done in the near future. In terms of friends and my love life... I've met my closest friends on the swim team and I couldn't really tell you about the dating scene, because I've been dating my boyfriend since High School. If you want to party, there's always a party going on, and if you aren't into drinking, then you can probably arrange to go the movies or bowling with people.

Ryan

they're are a lot of clubs on campus i would recommend getting involved in some it will make the school much more bearable. there are rarely parties on campus and you could find some off campus every now and than that are usually thrown by the frats and sororities and there aren't many bars nearby for so if your interested in that kind of thing this isn't the place for you.

Natalie

Party scene is nearly dead on campus. People who really party go clubbing and parties outside.

Cory

Queens College is a commuter school, so not many students spend their free time on campus. The most popular clubs would probably be the political clubs, the newspaper, and NYPIRG. It can be hard to make friends on campus, and most clubs are very inactive. You can find whatever you're looking for at Queens College, friends, clubs, parties, but you'll have to put a lot of effort into finding them.

Andrew

Hillel is popular, it's a Jewish hangout. I'm involved with Chabbad and Hillel. There are no dorms so no need to worry about that. Athletic events don't attract too many people here. The datin gscene is the same as anywhere else, you meet a girl that you like and you go out with her. There are many parties organzied by QC students.
