What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

erica

Acctually I went into this blind. I didnt know the first thing about college and what to expect. The Davenport staff and advisors are there and help me with every step of the way and to answer all questions I might have.

Katrina

To focus more and set a schedule to complete things.

Frank

I wish I knew more about the program I was getting into. I like it a lot, but I wasn't prepared for it at all.

Laura

I wish I had known ten years ago that nursing was the path that I should have taken, as it was, there didn't seem to be many places to go for carreer advice in my high school. There was a lot of focus on testing and doing well, but for no specific end goal. Now, I know the importance of testing well, doing my best and working towards an end goal. It has made my college experience more rewarding than I could have ever imagined.

Sara

Going off of my community college experience again, I can't say there really is much I wish I knew. If anything, it's little stuff. For instance, to know the parking situation and quickly the lots filled up. Or that I wouldn't be a fan of most of the people I met there. As a whole it was a very boring experience for me. Granted, I'm glad to still be debt free until starting at Davenport, but that is about the only plus I had to going there in the first place.

Lisa

I wish I would have known how overwhelming online classes could be, not only do you need to be dedicated and involved but you really need to login daily, stay focused, and never give up. Each course is an accelerated seven week program that I thought was going to be flexible and I would be able to work at my own pace. I was surprised to find out that the instructors assign assignments with due dates throughout the week. I found that is very helpful to have a strong understanding support system at home to help keep you going.

Jody

I wish I knew better the curiculum and was better prepared for use of computers.

Noami

I wish I knew that I could have been more than a minimum wage mule. I didn't know college was for me. I thought it was just for smart people. People who could learn the first time, those with no learning curve.

Dale

How to use all the computer programs like Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Access to their fullest capability. It would have made my first semester as an older student returning to college after 20 plus years alot easier. I wish we were required to take a full semester of each or most of these. This would also help in my assignments. The incoming young students know these programs but older students do not!

Angela

I wish I had realized how much the student loans were going to cost me when I am finished. I also wish I would have finished school 18 years ago when I first started c ollege.

cassandra

More about how to apply for scholarships on my own.

Jonathan

General social activities are not there, the school is built for almost school work only, can get kind of boring at times.

Andrea

I wish I had known that the school would be as unenjoyable as it is. I also wish I had known that there wouldn't ever really be much to do on campus, or with the students living in the dorms.

Zach

When attending classes at DU your class schedule is critical. Make sure to spend time planning out your week and remember, although you got up early for high school you won?t like to in college. Although the college is small yet lots of new buildings are being built and soon the campus will be larger.

NIKIDA

There is nothing that I wish I had known before attending. I am very satisfied with Davenport University.

Alicia

i wish the terms of my scholarship were better explained to me. i wish career services would have made themselves more apparent to me. and i wish they would have told me where to get the free tutoring that they had always apparently offered.
