Yes. Always. Class size is usually around 30 (just like my highschool), and professors are always available (house call, office hours, etc.) Class participation is a major part of your grade. My smallest class so far was first semester freshman year in Multicultural Education with only four other students. Davidson follows a liberal arts curriculum. The usual subjects for majors are broad and limited, but there's always the option to create your own major.
Yes, professors know my name. Most students study all the time. Yes, students have many intelligent conversations outside of class, and students are very competitive. Education is more geared toward learning for its own sake.
