What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Christina

I wish I had known how easy it was to become a collaborative student at Dickinson State. My advisor is very organized and has provided me with step-by-step, easy-to-follow instructions to line everything up for this fall. It really has been a flawless transition.

I wish I had known that the program I'm attending requires four years to complete regardless how many transfer credits you come in with. Having all of your general education completed does not shorten the time it takes to obtain your degree, it's two years for an LPN and four years for an RN.

The one thing i wish i knew before I came to college was how much studying was involved in college. When I started college I did not think I would have to study, as much as I do now. College is very difficult and some students think that college is easy, but it requires a large amount of studying. If I knew I would have had to study as much as I do now I would have prepared better when i as in highschool. College would have been a better transaction in I would have prepared better.

I wish i would have know the study habbits that i would need in order to succeed. I learned very quick that intead of taking only an hour to do, it takes a couple of hours to do homework. Studying is a big part of college and i when i found out how to do this after a couple of months school started to go a little easier. College now is not as stressful now that i know how to manage my time. College is a great experience and if i work hard i can achieve anything.

The advisor that is assigned to you is not the one you are stuck with. Talk to the registrars office and find an advisor that teaches in your field of interest. Also, check out the buletin bourds around campus for upcoming club meeting and campus events. Participating in clubs and events makes the college experience so much more enriching. I learned alot from interacting with other people at events. The smaller class sizes are great and the teachers are very helpful.

My advice to prospective students would be to place a high value on your education. There is time for fun, but remember that school work schould come first. It is you who is paying for your education, so make the most of it.

Before coming to college, I wish I had known more of what campus activities are available. The school did a nice job of telling me what was available, but not how to get in touch with the person in charge of running the groups. If I had been able to contact someone, I would have gotten more involved.

I wish I would have known more about the financial responsibilities I would have.
