What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I would give myself many advices. First of all, I would take liberal arts courses as a freshman in college if I wasn’t sure what major I wanted to be. I wasted so much time in college taking courses and then ended up wasting my time because I switch to many majors. I would try to be in as many clubs and activities that I could be, especially the ones that pertains to my major. I would get helped immediately with my school work and not wait to the last minute.

I was nervous about attending a community college. I thought that the academics would not messure up to those at the four year universities in my area. I have found that my classes are just as hard, if not harder, than those offered at the four year universities. The teachers are excellent, and grades are earned, not given. I feel as if my community college has prepared me for the PCAT (Pharmacy College Admissions Test) just as well, if not better, than any other college I could have attended. The best part about my community college is that I have never had a class with more than 40 students in it at a time. The one-on-one student/teacher interaction is more than I could have asked for. The facilities that my college has may not be the same size as the universities in my area, but the learning that takes place inside of our facilities is much greater.

my experience of collage has made me a better person. i have become organized, professional and determained that i will see the light at the end of the tunnel. college helps you meet all kinds of people, make friends for life and some of the people you meet can help you with your jouney and future goals. everthough college helps you to get a better education and to find that wonderful job so you can live a comfortable life. my life as a college student has been the best years of my life that words cant describe. there has been some set backs with tuition and scrapping up the money just to pay for tuition, but it has taught me to be strong and how to budget my money. college may have gave me life experience, but it has given me the information i need to know in the work place, so that i can become an effective healthcare manager i need to be in the future so that i can make a difference in this world.

My experience at D'Youville has helped me to grow in independence, confidence and self-esteem. I transferred to D'Youville last year after attending University at Buffalo. From the day I attended the orientation, I have felt that the teachers, faculty and other students truly care about me and the person I am. This has allowed me to excel in my classes and learn more than I ever felt possible in my chosen field of Occupational Therapy. My teachers encourage participation and are always there to help give support and guidance when necessary. They challenge my abilities and never make me feel that my questions are stupid. My field work experiences have been rewarding and I know it requires a lot of time and effort on their to make this a reality. The friends I have made at D'Youville will be friends for life. We challenge and support each other in class and out of class. I am confident that when I graduate from D'Youville, I will be very well prepared for my career. I am proud to say I attend D'Youville College.

College has not only expanded my education, but it has also taught me the importance and meaning of true friendship. In the beginning of my first semester at D'Youville, friend from high school was killed in a car accident. On the day of her viewing, I received a call while sitting at the Porterview Dining Room, stating that my mother was just in an accident and was on her way to the hospital via ambulance. I have never felt so much support from a group of people than that of the D'Youville community. Not only have friends from Marguerite Residence Hall given me the strength to push forward, but so has the staff. It is the job of the employees to know the names of the students, but they go above and beyond the expectations. The annual service trip to New Orleans, Louisiana this winter with friends has also taught me to be appreciative of what I have in my life, and to be thankful for the little things in life. Although I have mastered a 4.0 through the difficult times, I have more than education to value at D'Youville College.

My college experience is fantastic. My first class set the bar for all other classes to come and opened my eyes to the fact that I wasn’t in high school anymore. Being a not so average teenager, I decided to spend my summer learning by being an intern part time as well as taking Chemistry as summer class. Since I was at a new school, a few days before class started I went and located my classroom and all my required materials. On the first day I sat down and the teacher walked in. She took roll and said it would be the last time because she didn’t care if we showed up; that was on our shoulders. She passed out the syllabus, went over her normal routine and just jumped into notes. One student asked her a question and politely said her name like we would in high school. She replied call me by my first name we aren’t in high school. She never required us to do our homework, just recommended it and never once acted like a high school babysitter. It taught me to be accountable for myself. College is the Great Awakening.

My college experience has been extremely valuable to me because it has completely changed my future plans. All my life I never thought I would go to college; the idea never interested me. My parents never went and I saw no reason to do so myself. I decided to attend community college as a sort of test and so I could have at least some post-secondary education. My experience at my community college has been amazing and has inspired me to continue my education further at a four year university. I was able to explore different subjects that interested me and was encouraged to develop more ambitious goals for the future. I also got involved in my school and in my community through Phi Theta Kappa and various volunteer activities. My grades have also taken a complete turn around from high school as I now have almost straight A's and I am really excited for what my future holds. My college experience has been wonderful and has really changed my aspirations for the future; I now hope to not only complete my undergraduate education, but possibly post graduate education as well!

I have gotten so much out of my college experience so far. I love it! Even though I am only a freshman, college has been challenging and yet, so rewarding at the same time. It has taught me independence, dedication, perserverance and alot about the person I am becoming. I intend on becoming a nurse at the end of these four years. This has always been a dream of mine. I have seen my uncle on life support pass away. I was there at both my grandparents bedsides as they passed on. I witnessed good nurses and I experienced less than impressive healthcare given to my family. I knew I wanted to go into nursing to make a difference and treat others as I wish my family were treated when they were ill. Some things you learn by living other things you learn by going to college. This college experience is so valuable to me because without the education I am recieving today and will be receiving over the next three years, I couldnt be the best nurse I could be. In closing, a college education is an experience I will always treasure.

College is definitely a place for hard work. It is expensive and always stressful. But it is also something much more than that. College is one of the only environments in the world where every single day there is an opportunity to improve oneself. Even though I enter pathophysiology every single class frightened, I also appreciate the challenege and opportunity to gain knowledge which I can use everyday to help a patient and perhaps save a life. College is the stepping stone to the future a person dreams of. It provides the student with all of the necessary tools to succeed in their chosen career. As a nursing major, I had the opportunity to go to a two year school and graduate with an associates degree. However I value higher education and I am trying to obtain my baccleurate. I go to school everyday and work my hardest. Last semester I recieved a 3.9 GPA. I know doing this is, I will be prepared when I finally graduate and will feel knowledgable and confident when treating my patients. I value college so much because through the knowledge I am gaining there, I have the opportunity to help humanity.

in my time in college i have learn much about the world. D'youville college is about helping the needy. It has been so valuble to attend because of all i have learned both from a personal and educational stand point. while at college i was exposed to the less fortunate and relized just how much I have. I also experenced the joy of helping them with friends it changed me as a person. I have also learned tons about my major. At D'youville I was encouged to help learn more about the subject then ever before. My professors helped me understand history at a new level that i never thought possible. overall, college has changed me for the better.

I have gotten a wonderful experience as to how everyone is normal and even professional people are going to make mistakes. I have learned to deal with all types of people and most of all i have learned to be on my own and handle sertain situations when upset.

I wanted to attand D'youville College to get the one-on-one attention offered at a small university, I feel that the teachers here are eager to help students succeed in whatever pathway they choose. I feel that the courses I have taken here have been just as challenging as the large university I had transferred from. I feel prepared to move on to the graduate level of my program after completing the pre-requisite courses here. D'youville is very culturally diverse and the students here love to work in groups and help one another. I have had a great experience here so far.

Angela

I have certainly been blessed when I say I have gotten the most out of my college experience thus far. For example, not only have I excelled academically, but also physically in sports. First, my college has enabled me to have the experience of very small class sizes. For this reason, I have been fortunate enough to talk one-on-one with my professors both in class and outside the classroom. The class sizes at my college never exceed 30 students in the health professions. Not only that, but class discussion occurs everyday, just as it had in high school. Thanks to these class experiences, I am proud to say I have achieved a 4.0 GPA for my fall semester. Further on, I have also participated on the Varsity Tennis and Crew teams, which had allowed me to create stronger bonds with students who have the same interests as I. As I have excelled at both sports, I have also excelled socially with other students. D'Youville College has been valuable to attend for numerous reasons. For example, not only have I been able to achieve an amazing GPA, but also an amazing lifestyle as a growing adult.

So far in my college experience I have gotten to learn things I have enjoyed learning. I have met new people that will be friends for a life time. D'Youville has a great Dietetics program, which is the program I am in now. I am a single mother trying to put myself through school to show my daughter that school is very important, which is something I wished my parents would have pushed when I was growing up. D'Youville has been a great help with the entire financial aid process. It has been valuable to attend college to succeed in the field I want to work in. Thank you very much for your time

Shadeana

Out of my college experience I have learned that I should have went off to college rather than stay home. I feel that I could have gotten more out of being away at a school that I really wanted to attend. But overall my college experience has been the best experience I think anyone could ever think of. Being in college gives you way more freedom than when you are in high school and have to follow so many rules and most of all college is what you make it. It has been valuable for me to attend college because I know what it is that I want in life. I know that in order for me to live my life like i want to, then I have to attend school and put in a lot of hard work and dedication for me to do what it is that I want to do in life.

Amanda

Since I have been to D'youville, I have grown so much as a person. Going away to school, allowed me to become more independent and more confident in my decision. I have also become more socially outgoing, which has helped me make more friends and get along better with others. Academically, I've struggled in certain subjects but through those struggle I learned a lot. One of those things I have learned is not cry over one subject. I learned to live in the moment and not let my school work to effect me emotionally. D'youville itself, has small classes and which allows more one on one time and I think that is very important. It is a very science based colleges so I have been introduced to a lot of different fields. Since the school is located in the city, there is a lot of opportunity to interact with other school and what they offer.

Megan

The most important thing I have learned in college is how to deal with the struggles of living on my own. I have had to buy all my textbooks, groceries, and come up with money for daily living expenses. Along with being a full time college student, I am a two sport athlete, and have held a part time work study job. Transferring to D'Youville college this year from a community college, I have had to meet new people in two totally different settings. In the classroom I have learned how to take notes better, how to interatct with others in lab, and have improved my study habits. Outside the classroom I have learned to manage my time, social skills, and how to be a part of a team while not knowing anyone. It is valuable to attend college because you are not only getting an education and degree, but learning everyday life skills that a person needs for the rest of their life.

Kristin

I have gotten a great deal of experience from my college experience. Right now I am working towards getting my AA in Early Childhood education. In these classes I have learned how to not only be a better care taker, but a better parent. At Pierce we are taught to look at the whole child and get to know them each individually. Doing this makes every child feel important and loved. Instead of treateing a child as if they are bad, we look and see what the source of there bad behavior is. Then we can correct the problem and really help the child. I have a three year old daughter and these classes have taught me how to be more understanding with her when issues come up. Knowing the different stages children go through while they grow older, helps us also understand why they are acting out. As a teacher having understanding for children is one of the most important things. If we don't understand them, some children can get left behind, and that in not acceptable.

My college experience has been rewarding in a number of ways. I have learned a great deal about myself, my goals, and what I would like to achieve in my future. Attending college has encouraged me to become a stronger, more independent person. While going to college is often considered to be a requirement for many students today, I am only the second person in my family to pursue a higher education, and I plan to be the first to earn a Master's degree. I truly believe that my education will help me in my future, not only with finding a good job, but also because it has allowed me to grow and learn about myself, others, and society in general. College is a great learning experience that has allowed me to take advantage of many opportunities. I have met and befriended people from all walks of life and I have broadened my knowledge through classes, extracurricular activities, professors, and other students. Although the financial burden is substanstial, I look forward to graduating with a degree and the skills I will need to become a responsible citizen and a valuable member of society.

Windy

Attending college has allowed me to meet new people and has given me a lot of opportunities. I has not only educated me for my career choice, but also prepared me for difficult life decisions. I am really proud to be in the Nursing Workforce Diversity Program because it has provided me with great assistance towards my nursing career. I was also assigned a mentor and friend that I can consult with for any issues I may face. I have really enjoyed my college experience here at D'Youville College and I think everyone should feel the same way about the college they attend.

I thought I was a good student in high school, but I've realized I've grown so much already, just in three semesters. I have such good work ethic, I'm devoted, determined, and I know what I want for my future, which is why its easy to have the drive to be diligent. I've learned how I best learn, and how I can help other people do the same. I am independent as a student, which has carried through to being a daughter. When I'm home, I now have drive to help out. I don't settle. I'm getting the most out of these four years of undergrad, and hopefully will do the same for the 3 years of grad school. Learning comes from the classroom, definitely, but as much as people say it, I hadn't realized how much I've gotten from being away from home, friends, and the person who means the most to me. Looking back, the time has flown by, and in the moment I hadn't realized or been appreciative of who I am becoming, but when that ah-ha moment hit, that's all it took.

My limited collegiate experience has birthed a plethora of realizations about higher education. First, transitioning out of high school, my false self-confidence led me to believe I was incomparably wordly savy.. Yet, collegiate exposure expanded my existential insight, causing me to question my mortality and the grandeur of our universe. Awareness of my inadequacies launched into self-motivation. Secondly, I realize the value of communication skills. The ability to analyze both the written and verbal causes engagement, contributing energy and collaboration for solutions. College has deepened my interest in current affairs. I am motivated to delve and examine all points of view, determining implications for the future. I realize the value of systematically comparing and contrasting history of local, state, national, and world affairs to what is transpiring currently. The improvement of self is essential to the betterment of the whole. And, finally, I have developed the awareness of the value of self-discipline. Regulating focus builds structure and brings order. An ease in perception flows promoting positivism and confidence, allowing wholesome decision making and a sense of centeredness.

Attending college was the best decision I could have made. My experiences at D’Youville College are those that I will never forget. I decided to attend this college because it had a great pharmacy program. By choosing to go to this school, I knew I could get my doctor of pharmacy degree in 6 years and at the same location. However what I did not expect to find at D’Youville were great professors, counselors, mentors, advisors and friends. All these new people that I met have impacted my life in a way that I could not have imagined. During the three semesters I have been there, I have not once felt alone. There was always someone there to talk to. It was very easy to make new friends. I learned many new things about myself. One of these things being that I was not lost or wrong in my decision making process. I knew what I wanted out of life and what my goals were but I was confused about how to achieve them. Through D’Youville, I attained a job with Trio’s Upward Bound program at D’Youville College as a mentor and tutor.

Out of the one semester I have completed at DYC, I have picked up a of couple things. For one, DYC, in fact, cares about the students, especially freshman, and really puts in the effort to make their transition from high school to college as easy and fun as possible. From all the different events, activity nights, and knowledgeable faculty to help you along the way, DYC makes you feel like you are apart of a community and not just some random number. While I only part-time dorm at DYC, I have had the chance to meet new friends I probably never would have if I did not do so. Small class sizes and specific programs makes it easier to meet people and stay close to them. I believe meeting and gaining new friends is essential when starting in a new place. Finally, I have learned that hard work pays off. You only get out of something as much effort as you put in. My 3.8GPA for the first semester is proof of this. All of the things I have picked up at DYC are valuable to me because they have made me a more well-rounded person.

My experiences with D'youville College has been invaluable towards my growth as both a professional and responsible human being. I've learned much more than just academic skills, like how to communicate effectively with a diverse environment of people, and the ethical and moral standards required of people in the health care field. The coursework is very challenging, and requires an extensive amount of hard work, but I love the feeling of satisfaction I get from completing it. I know that everything I put into it now will serve to benefit me in the future. The small class sizes and personal touch I've received from D'youville has contributed a lot to my success as a student. I feel confident that I will go on to lead a rich and fulfilling professional life thanks in part to the caring faculty and staff here at D'youville.

I have learn to value the the importance of group work

What I have gotten out of my college experince I would have to say that I became a stonger student in classes that I lacked in high school. I am more independent and don't rely on my parents to fix my problems for me. I have met many different students from other cultures and backgrounds which helps me to be more understanding of others. Also, attending this college and graduating with a BSN in Nursing in three yearrs will help me have a wonderful career with many job openings in the future.

Jessica

I am studying one of the most basic principles of life, yet some of the most complex subjects. Dietetics is something that effects every person on Earth. We all need to eat! Yet to fully understand it, thorough study of chemistry, biology and other sciences are required. My college experience is giving me the tools I need to understand the way our bodies and our world work so that I can help others make their bodies work better! I believe that my college experience is not only valuable to me, but will become valuable to the people I can help after graduation.

Cory

Throughout my college experience I struggled with borderline depression and demonstrated several self-damaging actions. It was only through the friends that I've met at D'Youville College that I was able to deal with my harsh feelings about myself and society and realise that I am in fact a real person with real emotions. The values that society has placed on the generations of today are at risk of tearing our country and the fabric of our beliefs apart. College has taught me that an intellect is someone that can observe both sides of any single situation, formulate their own opinion, but still respect the beliefs and opinions of others, even though they may be polar opposites. I've learned that people will always be people and have a greater concerned for themselves than for others. Why not? If I'm to become an adult in this country, I shouldn't be sheltered and protected from the poison that the world can throw at me, I should be constantly exposed to it, so that at some point in the future I will be immune to the stupidity and idiocracy of people. Love who you are, that's valuable.

nicole

So far my college experience has been a roller coaster ride. I feel like I have had a difficult time trying to figure out how I'm going to pay for school and books. I feel like I was accepted into a program then to be told that the classes are not available so I would have to "sit tight" for a year until the classes I needed were available. Then I got interested in another field of study and I am able to start these classes right away. Like I said earlier, I am also worried about my college bills. I come from a very low income family and while they can't help with the financial aspect of school they helped me realize that I needed a good college education in order to get a better life and get out of the ghetto. The neighborhood I grew up in was a good area for kids and is slowing turning into a terrible area to live in and I look forward to allow my great education to propel me into a successful career.

Jennifer

I am an adult returning to school to facilitate a career change and become an RN. I believe that returning to college was a great decision. One of many things that I have gotten out of my college experience so far is that I know if I study hard and keep focused that I can achieve my goals in a timely manner. I has been and still is valuable to attend D'Youville because this school will give me the knowledge and experience to become a great Nurse. There is a shortage of nurses in this country and the need for well educated and trained nurses is of great necessity. The patients need caring, compassionate, and knowledgeable nurses to help them cope with, manage, and heal the illnesses and ailments that affect them.

Jordan

By attending college I have become more in tune to the world around me. I have been taught to challenge everything and to think critically. I have become more aware of the importance to serve, not only those in my own community, but those around the world. I have made friendships and memories that will last a lifetime. Through participation in athletics and campus clubs, I have become a more well-rounded individual. I am much more aware of cultural differences than ever before. I have thought about cultural, ethical, and world issues, many of which I had never before considered prior to attending college. Out of my college experience has not only come widsom and knowledge, but what I feel is an increased capability to relate to, serve, and develop relationships with more types of people. I feel for all of these reasons college has been a valuable experience. It is the goal of most people to someday obtain a skill that can be used in finding a career. I feel college has not only helped me to develop a skill, but that it has also increased my awareness for the world in which I will be working.

What I have gotten out of my college experience is that it is hard to choose the right one. I have finely foud the right one for me. I attend Ashford Unversity. I like this college because it offers both on campus and online classes. I like the fact that I can take my classes online because I am a mother of a very active toddler and work 40 hours a week. So the only time I can study is when I am not working but even that is hard with my little one. So I study online at night when my little one is sound a sleep. Ashford is always taking time to talk to there incomming students and make them feel comfort about attending there school.

I have been attending college for the last five years. It has been difficult because I am married and have two young daughters. I will have my AA next semester and will be transferring to a university in fall. Going to college has been very hard and has taught me that nothing good comes easy. I have been diligent in my studies and the experience has revealed to me how a dedicated person I am. I have questioned my goals in college many times, but I believe that it is still in my wife's and my two daughters best interest to stay in college. Since my work has paid off and I will be at a university next semester, I am more determined than ever to stay focused on finishing college. Going to college has not only been valuable to me but also to my family, since I am the first in my family to go to college.

D'Youville has offered me a variety of positive experiences, personally as well as academically and professionally. The diversity of students is allowing me to learn about and accept other cultures and religions and to be an open-minded individual. The academic experience offers small class sizes and ideal professor interaction that is conducive to a successful learning environment. D'Youville is very challenging academically but if you are motivated and determined to seek the necessary assistance from the staff, the sky is the limit. It has taught me that through hard work, anything is possible. The school also has many affiliations within the community that allows students to make professional connections and even to set up job opportunities for after graduation. The benefit of attending the smaller college as opposed to a larger university has enabled me to attain one-on-one help from professors and in the process, develop real relationships with the staff on a personal level. Some colleges offer a mentor program; due to the small size and personal nature of this school, any and all of your professors are mentors. They are willing to offer personal as well as professional advice to ensure success.

Carlin

As of yet I have not attended college, but I am enrolled to start Spring quarter at ITT Technical Institute. Therefore I cannot answer the question, but I can tell you what I hope to get out of my college experience. I am hoping, because the construction industry hasn't treated me too well so far, that I can get a better career for me and for my family. I spent some time researching careers and schools and found a career option that i believe suits me and suits my financial goals for the future. I then found the school that can give me the degree i need. I have visited the school and found that the staff and students are both friendly and helpful, and I believe i will very much enjoy my experience at ITT Technichal Institute.

Amanda

I have recieved so many wonderful experiences in just one semester of attending D'Youville college. Since recieving confirmation of my acceptance into the PA program at D'Youville, it has given me the opportunity to achieve my dreams as a PA. My college experience attending D'Youville has been truely exceptional. D'Youville is committed and designed to helping you succeed. I have exceeded my expectations and have grown intellectually as a student. D'Youville has been so valuable to attend for many reasons. Most colleges and universities class sizes are not as small and aren't able to take the time to get to know their students. At D'Youville small class sizes allows for individualized attention and rapport with proffessors. You feel welcomed and feel like part of a family. Many of the proffessors hold doctorial credentials and are extremely educated giving students the highest quality in education. D'Youville is a friendly atmosphere and are ready to help you reach your goals and dreams. I can't wait to see what my futureholds!

Amy

The college experience is something truly unique; it's like no other adventure I have embarked on. Looking at attending college as an experience has allowed me to soak up more the unique atmosphere found at my college. Walking to the other buildings, working in the study rooms being tutored and tutoring, sitting at lunch with friends, and working with everyone in the school's cafeteria is similar to high school but it's a completely different level. At college, I have extended my wings and I feel I have found my own niche that I couldn't find in high school. I have so many supporting friends who impart wisdom from their experiences to me, making me feel that I have awakened to a new world. I have learned new skills from being around my new friends as well as from working in the cafeteria where I not only talk to the students but also develop bonds with my coworkers. Bonds build the world as they develop and one grows when the world is opened to them; that's exactly what has happened to me - my world has expanded and I am a much better person for it.

Laura

Last semester was my first time in school in over eight years and the first time ever, that I set goals. I created a plan, worked diligently, and for the first time I made a 4.0 GPA. I appreciate each class and use it as an opportunity for personal growth. I have gained confidence and a feeling of empowerment. In my Success in College class I learned time management skills and how to use available resourses. I discovered that I do not really hate math, in fact I enjoy it. I learned in Psychology that my future in-laws really are. crazy. My parents and family are so supportive and proud of me. I have a closer bond and more in common with my sister who is studying to become a nurse. I am setting a good example for my two year old son and improving our quality of life. Through education I can make a difference in my life, those around me, and my community.

Ashley

I have learned a lot about myself, and my abilities this last year from college. I've learned my strengths, and weaknesses, I've learned that with hard work I can make my goals in life. This last years experiences have taught me that I'm worth the hard work, and I can actually have the life I want. The experiences have been extremely valuable, I've learned a lot more than just what was taught to me in class, I've learned many valuable life lessons as well. These life lessons will help me once I get out of college and start in my field of work.

Tania

The professors are really engaging in their respective classes, I've had classes where most of the students are engaged in the discussion and sometimes the professors feed the discussion to really get us into the subject. Although there are your typical boring college professors even they have their moments where the subject matter really captivates some of the students. Alhtough I was horrible with Biology in High School I find myself stating random facts from my college Biology class, a year after taking the class.

Elizabeth

Attending college has proven to be quite challenging, and rewarding at the same time. As a mother of two small children, entering the college arena has forced me to reevaluate what is important in life. I have found that the rigors of being a student such as studying, homework, writing papers, and late nights at school have put my life in perspective. Obtaining an education has always been important to me. I know that unless I have a firm knowledge and good educational background I cannot succeed in the field of study I have chosen. Likewise, I have learned that my love of learning has been instilled in my children. They have experienced my excitement when I understand a new concept. They have felt my disappointment when I did not meet my expectations. They have enjoyed our times together reading and discussing topics discussed in school. My experience thus far in college has proven to be a refiner’s fire for my little family. We have grown closer, enjoying every minute of life, as we continually realize how much richer it has become.

Heidi

College has really opened up a new world for me. I can tell I am on the right path because my classes don't feel like a chore; I look forward to what I will learn every time I go to class. I can apply what I learn in class to the real world and see first hand the difference it makes in my life. I can tell what I am learning is not beneficial only for my chosen career path, but also for me to better understand the world around me. College is shaping me into a well rounded person. I have experienced college before when I was younger, but as an adult student I am really driven to learn and take advantage of anything that would benefit my learning goals. I feel very motivated to achieve the best grades and get the best experience out of every class I can.

I have gotten many positive things out of attending D'Youville College. Including meeting awesome professors who have made my college experience fun. Attending has made me grow as a person and being in an environment of a smaller college it has made learning much easier. Having the professors close to you and available a lot of the time has made getting better grades achieveable. Being on a campus that is smaller your professors actually know your name and your not just known as a number which is nice. D'Youville has been a valuable experience because it is giving me a great education no matter what the cost is that will leave me with a degree and a bright future.

My college experience has been one to remember. At first it was scary, it was hard because the workload was new and definitely not something I was ready for. I realized, after a few weeks went by that it was more about planning my day and keeping up with my work. D'Youville taught me how to be a well rounded and organized individual and this technique has helped me alot in my day to day life. I have also learned to take my goals and push forward to more than I thought I was capable of. I was able to experience the amazing support group of Faculty members that helped me along the way to be a more successful student. That is a great experience to have when as a student, no matter how pressured you are there are people who care about your success and will help you to achieve your dreams. Through this diffcult period, I believe D'Youville has lived up to its name and is always willing to help its students to do better and push forth to achieve more than they thought possible. Through my experience, I made a positive decision in attending DYC.

At the advanced age of 40 +, when I want to study, I get all friends around me at this college. The professors and instructors are very helpful. I feel like I belong here, unlike the state university where I was rejected, in spite of an acceptence letter and nobody really cared there. In this country my dreams were thrashed at the state university very cruelly and rudely and nobody seemed to bother but D'Youville college gave me reason to believe in my dreams with confidence and respect. I am proud to be studying at D'Youville college.

Upon enrolling in college, students seldom seem to realize that college can very well be a part of the best years of their lives. This is true for me. Growing up in a lower class neighborhood, the harsh realities of the world were clear to me from an early age. I knew that making something of my future meant doing something positive with myself. This meant breaking the mold I, as a young Hispanic male, have been placed in. College has instilled in me values that I could only have learned through experiences in the classroom and with my peers. I was forced to learn to keep up with many new responsibilities living on my own. As cliche as it is to admit it, attending college has helped me grow up. It has helped me appreciate everyone that made an effort to get me where I am now. Wanting to be that extra push for other children, I dedicated my extra time to coaching little league baseball. Its the least I can do to give back to a community that has helped me push me to my limits; something I will always continue to do throughout my life.

At 25 years old working in the medical field as an assistant to a General Practitioner, I felt as if there was more I could accomplish and had a real calling towards nursing. The docotor I worked for also told me that I had missed my calling and needed to go back to school although, due to my age and the fact that I had not taken all the math and sciences necessary to apply to nursing schools, I did not know if that was possible. However D'Youville College allowed me to work for what I wanted, I applied to their Career Discovery Program and took a skills assessment test to find where I stood. After a year of working very hard I was accepted into the Nursing Program and hold a GPA of 3.5, without D'Youville College giving me a chance I may not have discovered what my real passion is, Nursing and caring for others.

First, I applied in July 2010 for the Spring semester which starts January 18,2011. I graduated from Bryant & Startton in 2006. Since then I have made many attempts to find a perminant job placement. However due to my kids and the approprate job schedule for this field requirements , this resulted in being unemployed. Times are tough and since I'm home with my two little ones, I decided to go back to school. I viewed what a few Colleges had to offer and I chose to persue with D'Youville College. So in two weeks I will be starting a change of study in the BSN Nursing program. Once completed all course of studies ,I 'd like to move forward and find a job and settle in helping and treating others whom couldn't help thereselves.Find a job where I can pretty much have a set schedule gearing towards my needs as well. Hopefully to pull my family out of poverity and just live comfortably not looking to much over my shoulders. Thanks for giving me the time to think and know why this schooling so important to me and my life!

My college experience at DYC has been an eye opener for me. Being in college is a huge step up from high school and I love the pressure and hard work that has to be put in, especially when you see your hard work being paid off with a high GPA. D'Youville College is nothing like any other college that I know. It has small sized classes and at DYC, you aren't just a face in the crowd, you are somebody. The teachers are friendly and willing to help their students. As a student, I am recognized by my professors and can have a casual conversation about anything with them. But the point is, is that you will always see professors talking with their students and actually getting to know them. Whereas any other college like UB, you are like a fish in the big, deep blue sea. My experience at DYC has further enhanced my drive and dedication to work harder to achieve my goals and get more involved with on and off campus activities. D'Youville College is a great school to go to because of the opportunities you are given to better your college experience.
